Nice museum with interesting things to look at and interact with but only ¼ of the text was in English so I missed out on a lot. The basic most important stuff was in English so I was not confused and I understood the main points, but the nuances that I was hoping to better understand by coming here were lost on me. I would not visit again and would not really recommend to anyone. But that is also partly due to personal bias, I do prefer ancient history to modern history in general. The full room of projectors showing history of advertising was very very well done and that’s why I’m giving 4 stars instead of 3.

A must see to understand South Korea’s history and trajectory into the 21st century. Jam packed with information regarding centuries of different rules and its effects on modern South Korean society. Plan on 90-120 minutes to listen to each exhibit’s description.

The museum has a lot of information to deliver. We got a one hour lecture by Fabien yoon who describes us everything. So we quite enjoyed and learned about korean history. The view of Gyeongbokgung palace from the rooftop of the museum is just breathtaking!!

National Museum of Korean Contemporary History is situated next to a U.S. embassy not by a coincidence, but strategically due to the ROK-U.S. Alliance. The history of this alliance is one of the exhibitions called "동행 Journey Together" that you can see here until March. The permanent exhibitions are focusing on Korean history, from Japanese occupation until the present day. There's children's museum and also corner for different activities mainly for kids and teens. The entry is free, so you have nothing to lose by visiting!

Free museum with fun interactive exhibitions, lovely kids section, with a playroom and a kids library and some arts and crafts. The AC was welcome in the heat and it was interesting to walk around the different floors which each had there own period of recent history.

This excellent museum is totally free. The main exhibition is on one floor and gives a very useful introduction to Korean modern history, with the focus being from the late 1800s to the present day. There is a lot of signage in English.

Great museum and best of all it’s FREE! Some great videos on display and good background on how Korea became what it is today. Some English as well however a little more English signage would’ve been ideal but that’s OK. It’s free and a nice place to spend some time.

This is a fantastic museum for those that are interested in contemporary Korean history (18xx-now). It's free, yup, free. They even have self guided tours available in English, Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Those machines are great and it automatically jumps to different sections of the exhibit. Great attraction for all tourists and locals!

(Translated by Google) Gwanghwamun Plaza Avenue, across from the Government Complex, Also, it is located next to the US Embassy. It doesn't seem like a big museum as its name suggests. It is on the 8th floor, of which you can see the 3rd, 4th and 5th floors. The 8th floor has a roof garden. There is a shop on the 4th floor You can buy souvenirs, and a tricycle is displayed in the hallway. There is. You can see the history of modern and contemporary Korea Unlike museums focused on ancient history When I was young looking at the exhibits touching my skin Memories, events, accidents and events related records can be viewed There are more intimacy and reminiscent memories a lot. I think it's worth visiting at least once♡ (Original)

(Translated by Google) The first floor is a space for children (minimuseum, library), and there is a history museum from the second floor. You can go to each floor by following the instructions written on the floor, and there is a safety officer on each floor to restrain children from running around and making noise, so you can tour in a quiet atmosphere. There is a feeling that the content only exhibited important elements rather than rich, perhaps because of the constraints of the place, but there is no feeling that it is insufficient. There is a museum parking lot and there are not a few parking spaces for parking, but on weekends, there are many people who park in the museum and go to the neighborhood, so it is better to use the public parking lot opposite.

(Translated by Google) As a museum that exhibits and records the history of Korea, it is a place that is praised by many people. Currently, documents such as photos of the May 18 Democratization Movement are on display. Even in the days of the Park Geun-hye administration in 2015, it received a lot of applause by holding a photo exhibition under the title of'Road of Democratization in Korea' with photos such as the 4.19, 5.18, and 6.10 Uprising.

"Some day when the long-awaited dream of reunification becomes reality, this too will be recorded within these walls" - this hopeful and powerful aspiration was written on the plaque. Enjoyed the 2 hours I was there where I had a better appreciation of this Asian Tiger/Dragon rose to become the modern economy it is today!

A very good atmospheric place. You can learn a lot about history and culture of Korea, about its Emperors and their life. English signs will help foreigners to understand what it is written in the exhibition hall. Got acquainted with lots of new information. Will visit it again next time.

This is the perfect museum for learning about the rich history of Korea, especially between North and South. It is extremely thorough and well payed out so it’s never confusing what you should look at next. From the first floor to the top it goes in a timeline. It also gives a great view points from South Korea which I had never been exposed to and I think most of the western world is not exposed to.

The only interesting thing I found in this "museum" was the Kia T-600, the last three-wheeled vehicle produced in South Korea in 1969 (thank wikipedia). No I'm kidding... I noticed that the exhibits were mainly presented in Korean, as a foreigner and not mastering this language, it's was a bit difficult for me to follow and get interested. Other than that, it's a nice building and the entrance is free...

It's really quiet here. Just a few foreigners around. The second floor donation hall and history museum focus on the US-Korea relations and the Korean War. They exhibit military boots and other war materials. Didn't feel anything special, kinda getting vibes of nationalism and conservatism. -BOFF

(Translated by Google) There are several museums in downtown Seoul. The role of this museum of Korean history is to discuss the modern Korean government. Shape the meaning of the government of the Republic of Korea and rationalize the symbolism of democracy and freedom. There are several museums in Seoul, all of which are similar. In short, starting from Lee Seung-wan’s South Korea, it must be said that there was a war with North Korea. As we all know, the United Nations forces, dominated by the United States, landed in Incheon. On the other side, the republics help each other. Finally, the two sides agreed on the 38-degree line as the midline. These museums in South Korea place great emphasis on the involvement of the United Nations, the world’s salvation, and support for South Korea. Such an argument certainly has a tilt effect. In the history museum, the most important thing is the government transformation of the Republic of Korea. Even if you don't understand Korean, you can know what he is going to say through the sound and light effects, and the meaning of the exhibits is very clear. Many displays. These museums have the same meaning, which is the victory of democracy and the victory of freedom.

(Translated by Google) UNESCO special exhibition.. Just before June 25, he joined UNESCO .. After studying with a book that was supported by UNESCO, he was elected, served, and retired as UN President Ban Ki-moon. It was good to explain the status of development in the social/cultural/economic field from 6.25 to the present. One photo in the background of Gyeongbokgung Palace and the Blue House at Haneul Park on the 8th floor.. I recommend it. Interesting exhibitions from the late 1800s to today. Combine with a visit to the National Museum of Korean History, and you'll get a good coverage of Korean history.

An interest permanent history exhibit of Korea from approximately 1894 to present. Most explanations have English versions. View from top floor are great

This is a super, comprehensive exhibition of the modern history of Korea! It’s spread across multiple floors and you get an in-depth understanding of so many aspects of this amazing country. You need a solid few hours to cover the collection in detail so make sure you find the time to do so :)

So informative. I'm visiting Seoul for a month, doing a study abroad program through school and loved that I got to learn more about Korean culture and the history of the country. View from the roof is gorgeous.

Excellent museum that is free to visit. Worth the time no matter. Close to other locations in Seoul such as palace. Lots of interesting modern history.

The intro to each section of the special exhibition, "The Country They Have All Dreamed Of," was written in English, but individual pieces were Korean only, so it was hard to figure out the importance of a lot of the items on display. Seemed like an interesting topic tho. Maybe the permanent exhibitions are translated. It was still cool to sit in a pod and listen to Korean songs from 40s and watch an old film clip.

Takes about an hour to an hour and a half to see everything. Little interactive with screens and user interaction. Good for kids. Not much is translated in English though.

Interesting museum, albeit a bit strange. If you have kids who speak/read Korean, this museum is definitely 5-stars. The first few floors have so many interactive exhibits (though very few of them are in English) and the kids seemed to be having an absolute blast playing with them. If you aren't coming with children and/or don't speak much Korean, the top floor is the place for you. There it gives a pretty good history of Korea, from the early 1900's until today. Most of the history exhibits have some English translations, but the actual pieces from the collection rarely had anything but Korean explanations. It's free to visit, so it's still worth stopping by for a half hour or so, but if you have Korean kids, this museum would be fantastic

Our regret was not planning for a full day visit to South Korea’s largest museum. We have to come back again to view the 300K+ artifacts. From the three choices, we chose to lunch at Pagoda Restaurant (ask for menu in English) within the main exhibit hall. Bibimbap comes with a good serving of beef. The museum is located right off Ichon Station (Line 4). On our return, we had to call our hotel for assistance to book a cab as the taxis didn’t show up at the taxi stand.

Small but charming museum covering Korea’s modern history. A variety of different exhibitions of varying interest / interactivity. Not all galleries / exhibits are translated into English.

This has to be one of the best museums in Korea. Many different exhibits. Interactive exhibition on Korea advertising is interesting in both content and presentation. Special exhibition on consumer savings (Mok don) is very well curated. Showed different dimensions of money. I get to teach my kids using this exhibition.👍 Main exhibition on Korean history showed foreigners like myself how hard Koreans had to work together to gain independence and to become one of the leading economies of the world. Salute! There is also an exhibition on intergenerational communications. Good interactive exhibits. Highly recommend anyone to spend a good time here.

Great museum covering 20th century Korean history. Really great selection of objects. However, only a few informative panels are in English -- though each artifact has an English title. Great museum if you just want a brief overview, can take 30 min to 1 hour. Don't miss the wonderful view of the palace from the resting room on the 5th floor. Free.

Great free museum about the modern history of South Korea, their alliance with the USA, the Korean war by the UN, etc. There is a section about financial product in South Korea, overall a lot of documents, everything is clean and well explained, but you'll need to translate some stuff with Papago because not everything is in English. Overall it takes ~1h30 to fully visit

  • 5/5 Andreia C. 11 months ago on Google
It is very interesting and had a lot of interactive things. Some allow to print and even take pictures and print too. It is great for foreigners because almost everything has the English translation. It also has a great view of the recent historical excavation and the palace

Went on a national holiday which is usually means it'll be busy but it wasn't too bad. The cable cart employees were very helpful and happily guide you to where you need to go. Managed to go at sunset which made photos even better. Don't wait for the elevator before the cable cart and walk up instead. Also unsure how long the hike is and didn't attempt as wanted to try the cable cart. Bought tickets via klook and need to pick these up before getting on cable cart.
