I've visited coffee shops/cafes up and down the country. Laynes is easily amongst my top 3 favourites. The coffee, food and pastries are absolutely spot on - you really can't fault them. The staff here have a true passion for customer service and know exactly what they're doing when it comes to food and drink. Laynes has always been neat, tidy and welcoming. I've never left feeling disappointed or unsatisfied. Price wise, considering the overall experience, I believe the menu items are well worth the money. Highly recommend to anyone in Leeds City Centre.

After carving for a proper English breakfast for quite some time,on a visit to Leeds ,I picked this place to satisfy my taste. I do not regret it,even more, I totally recommend it. I wish I would have had more time in order to come for the other options of breakfast from the menu. I had their signature Breakfast and it was a blast. Delicious, tasty, and the portions were more than enough. We did not have a reservation but the chap at the counter fixed us somehow. We had a smoke and waited for a few minutes and after that we were sitting at the window enjoying a dreamy flat white while waiting for our breakfast. Big up guys, looking forward to my next visit .

Well, they've made the start of my day. Best coffee, pancake and sourdough based breakfast. There is something in the pancakes that makes them so mouthwatering We booked our table online, which was so easy, as it can fill up very quickly. Located a short distance from Leeds City Station. Staff are professional. Highly recommended!

Beautiful café close to Leeds Train station with gorgeous coffee, food and incredible service. During busy periods there is obviously a wait but it is absolutely worth it. Iced latté and Leeds Bun were superb. My friend said their Sourdough toast with poached eggs with a side of salmon was delicious. If I ever return to Leeds I will definitely be coming back

A very refreshing cafe. I went for breakfast and despite the constant influx of customers they were able to stay on top. For breakfast I ordered a chorizo and cappuccino. The chorizo was juicy, with a nice mix of flavours. However the star has to go to the cappuccino. I drink a lot of coffee and can tell they were careful and considerate of their choice of beans. Furthermore they utilise square mile coffee, a well known independent rostary in the UK. On aside note the staff were pleasant and there was a good choice of music.

The food was delicious. We had the smoked haddock potato cake and the merguez sausage hash. The staff were very attentive to our dietary requirement and were very friendly.

Easily my favourite veggie brekkie in the city! Make sure you book, as these guys are super popular and fill up quickly, but it’s well worth making the effort to. The service is fast and friendly, and the food is insane. Coffee is always 10/10. Perfect, cozy little atmosphere for a weekend brunch. Thanks guys! ☕️

Pretty mid tier vegan breakfast, had potential but generally lacking flavour and seasoning especially for the hefty price tag. Service was OK, but we felt a bit rushed, although it was busy so this can be forgiven.

Very accommodating, especially as we had a dog with us. The coffee was decent, and the food great too. Can only give four stars as a side of 2 scrambled was £5! The server that took our names and was organising at the front desk, presumably form central europe was fantastic, very friendly, had a smile the whole time we were there and appeared to be handling a very busy period with ease. She's a credit to the business. In times like these it's people like this that keep businesses going and people happy.

Breakfast enthusiasts, rejoice! Laynes, conveniently perched across the street from Leeds station (LDS), offers an all-day breakfast menu that’s a feast for both the early bird and the late riser. Open until 3 pm, Laynes ensures that breakfast isn't just for the early hours. Whether you crave pancakes at dawn or sweetcorn fritters at noon, they've got you covered. And with vegetarian and vegan options aplenty, this is a spot where everyone can find their favorite morning delight. A sit-down meal lets you bask in the flavors of freshly prepared eggs, hot dishes, and aromatic coffee. With 45 minutes, you can indulge in a leisurely breakfast that might just turn into an early lunch! On the go? Laynes serves up takeaway bakery items in a flash. A croissant and a coffee can be yours in just minutes, perfect for those rushing to catch a train. The food is superb, and the service is equally impressive. Laynes has mastered the art of making every diner feel special. So, next time you're near Leeds station, don't just pass by Laynes. Step inside and discover a breakfast haven where time stands still, taste buds dance, and everyone finds their plate of happiness.

Hands down, one of the best lattes I've had. 😍 Loved their chorizo hash. Definitely recommend Laynes and will go again. Friendly staff. Great service. Reasonable prices. Good variety of drinks, food and Bakery.

I really recommend this place if your visiting Leeds. Make sure you book a table upstairs before you go as it does get busy. I was seated downstairs in the basement which didn’t have any natural light and it did get a bit hot but nothing uncomfortable. Their menu was really well thought out and I was surprised to see gluten free options. Please see my menu pics. I ordered the Turkish eggs, it did take longer then expected but it was an absolute delight the eggs were cooked perfectly and the portioning was spot on. The coffee was really nice. The baristas latte art was next to nothing great attention to detail. I would 100% go again and I would definitely try the gluten free pancakes.

The joys of the Google Algorithm! A great place for a coffee and something to eat (be it light bites, brunch, etc). It has atmosphere and the staff are great. Definitely worth a stop. Definitely worth a diversion.

The food was delicious (sweetcorn fritters a favourite for us) would 100% recommend Layne's, always amazing value for money, quality of the food is fresh and the dishes are well thought out - gluten free and veggie friendly too (although gf toast would be nice)

Food was great -recommend sweetcorn fritters Service however was disappointing, waitress wasn't very helpful. Also rude when asked for fried egg on top, replying if the chef had time.

Work had arranged a team meeting at the Leeds office so just like anyone else, I googled the best coffee shops in Leeds. After creating a shortlist, Laynes Espresso came out top, mainly because of its close proximity to the train station and its location being en route to the office without having to take a detour. Currently there are some road works going on outside but don’t let that put you off from trying this place. The gloominess of the morning was mirrored by the greeting by someone who didn’t seem like they were having the best of days but regardless they seated me to a table and also directed me to the toilets which I had to use from excessively hydrating myself on the two hour train journey. I went in with the thought of ordering a croissant or the sort, from what seemed to be a freshly baked selection, however I saw some eggs on toast on the menu. The waitress, who served me, was slightly a happier one and she advised it will only take 5 minutes to make to serve my time constrained agenda. I gave in and ordered that along with my usual flat white. The order did arrive pretty quickly, unlike my train, and the food itself was quite nice. Personally I could do with a bit more flavour in the eggs but maybe I should have used my initiative and dashed some more pepper on them. Nevertheless due to my urgency to get to the meeting, I just swallowed them at pace and tried to savour the taste. The flat white was really good and the barista avoided any frothiness that some amateurs are guilty of. My palate took well to the flavours of the beans and the correct texture of the caffeinated drink. A post meeting pit stop was thwarted by their early 3pm closing time but despite this minor setback, I would definitely recommend this place if you enjoy a proper cup of coffee and/or with a side of an array of brunch dishes.

Good quality food and coffee. It gets pretty busy so definitely make a reservation before turning up. Expect to wait around a bit for tables if you've not booked- but this is expected because it's a pretty busy place

What a place. I ended up in Leeds twice last week and visited here both times; I was led here originally by the good reviews! The food is amazing and well priced. The staff are lovely and accommodating. The coffee is delicious, there is loads of seating and there were lots of people eating alone which lets me know the atmosphere is comforting! Highly recommend!

With an unassuming facade and condensed windows it would have been easy to walk past without a second glance had it not been for a recommendation. Came here for lunch, ordered the Carrot and Courgette Fritters and Bubble & Squeak. Great flavours and well presented, my only criticism would be the slightly overdone bacon. Fantastic coffee (serving James Hoffman's Square Mile roasts). Keen to return and to try the cakes!

The best coffee in the vicinity of the station. And the food was even better than I'd hoped, too. That chermoula mayo was one of the nicest sauces I've had in a long time...everything else was delicious and the egg was done to perfection, too. I also had a black Americano and a Flat White. Both were top notch. Good value and a nice atmosphere, too - I sat writing in there for 3½ hours.

We visited around 2.30 mid week and hadn't realised the kitchen stop serving food, our mistake however the front of house seemed happy for us to sit and order. Food was great and the coffee fab, I just felt the atmosphere coming from the kitchen, as soon as our food hit the pass the lights were off and the chef was out the door. Unfortunately this spoiled it a little for me.

We came here on recommendation. The aesthetic was jolly yellow, urban chic meets mid-century modern. Shelves of plants nod to 70's nostalgia. Tea and coffee are curated with deep consideration. Cakes are rustically presented and individually worthy. All the staff take things very seriously whilst bringing an edgy friendliness to the epicurean party. A lovely place to knit!

Friendly, cozy and very handy for the station. Great vegetarian and vegan options. Scrambled tofu on sourdough with pickled onions is delicious. Seating both at street level and basement. Great for a relaxing breakfast watching the world go by or for a chatty catch-up.

Wow! What a good vibe! A must visit place in Leeds for breakfast. Such a good options and friendly staff. Love the colour combinations. Sit by the window and enjoy your coffee and sandwich! Worth a visit.

Service was good. We booked ahead, otherwise I expect it would be hard to get a table given how busy it was Good was ok. The vegan breakfast scramble was well made but a little bland The hallumi was just 2 small pieces heated up. £2.50 for some averagely made hallumi seemed expensive. Plus it didn’t taste like Greek Hallumi Overall it was fine, I certainly wouldn’t queue or wait to eat there

Some local friends told me this is the best coffee in the Leeds area and I’m inclined to believe them. Perfectly executed flat white, meaning it retains the depth of flavour of the roast and melds seamlessly with the milk to produce the optimum balance. Their batch brew is also excellent and is my go-to coffee in Leeds. Also can wholeheartedly recommend their breakfast brioche and Merguez sausage hash.

Nice little cafe always full house during peak hours 😜. There are many varieties of vegan and vegetarian dishes 👍👍👍 One point for improvement is that the sourdough bread was overbaked and too hard to chew 😂

  • 5/5 Danielle 1 year ago on Google
Both the coffee and food here are incredibly good. I had more than a cup of coffee and tried the apple crumble danish with custard & the baked ham and hash. Both were so delicious that I just sat there feeling incredibly happy. The staff were really professional and friendly too.

If you're in Leeds and looking for a cozy cafe for breakfast and coffee, you can't go wrong with Laynes Espresso. Their coffee is excellent, and the baristas really know their stuff. Their breakfast menu has options for everyone, including vegetarians and vegans. I had the avocado toast, and it was delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff are friendly. Overall, Laynes Espresso is definitely worth a visit if you want good breakfast and coffee in Leeds

We popped in for a Sunday morning breakfast without booking. We were told there would be a 30-minute wait but we got seated much quicker. There was a bit of a wait for our meal but we didn't mind. The staff were friendly & attentive and the food was great. Espresso a bit on the bitter side, probably underextracted.

  • 3/5 Chris W. 10 months ago on Google
It was just fine… I guess. Nothing to write home about, really. Maybe my expectations were too high, but the brunch sounded better than it actually tased. Food was just a tad generic and boring. Service was nice tho. There are definitely better options in Leeds than this.

If you're not picking up a coffee here as you exit the station, why not? Great coffee, good ethos, and also one of my favourite places for a weekday brunch. Plenty of seating and the open kitchen adds to the atmosphere.

Very nice coffee I had. Nice cookie to takeaway. Was told there would be 40 minute wait for food so declined. But hopefully be back when less busy. Room for improvement to try speed up service in kitchen as never been told to wait 40 minutes before. Look forward to trying food

Excellent service and atmosphere. You could see that the people there were happy even working there, they were dancing and goofing around. What a lovely positive vibe. Bravo to the chefs there who cook right in front of you in an open concept, laid back, in your friend’s kitchen atmosphere. The breakfast isn’t to be missed .

Great little spot and perfect for a mid-morning coffee or brunch! Tables well spaced out and staff were really accomodating. Food was really good, we opted for the avocado on sourdough with halloumi and the pastrami cheese toastie - both equally delicious!

The coffee was really great. I tried the latte which was good. The latte with oat milk was very good although they don’t offer many options for milk alternatives. The place is quite small but it is very cozy. There are many types of desserts, I’ve tried some unfortunately can’t remember the names, but I like them. Very highly recommended.

Coffee = excellent. We went during the eat out to help out scheme as Laynes had been recommended by a few people. We specifically went into town to go there and it didn’t disappoint. Breakfast was great and it has an open kitchen so you can see the chefs at work. Will definitely return.

:( Staff are really rude because they are not well trained and unorganised. Food was pricey for the quality. I would avoid this one.

  • 2/5 Lee S. 3 years ago on Google
The food is great so it's with a heavy heart that I give this 2 stars. But everytime I come here, pay for parking and turn up, you can't get in. Over 1 hour waits. If they just had a simple booking system it would save people alot of time and disappointment.
