Really beautiful place! Stunning view and relaxing. Food was good and staff was really friendly. They have a really nice pool and hot tub. Only downside is that everywhere you go you are constantly interrogated and have to prove that you are staying here. Was walking around and stopped numerous times to confirm that I was staying here. Apparently showing your room key isn’t enough either, cause they still won’t believe you lol. Management needs to do a better job of making their guests feel welcome (I don't know, maybe give people a bracelet or something so that its easy to tell who is staying here or not?) It really is a nice place so its really unfortunate that my experience was ruined by that. Especially considering the amount that you pay to stay here.

Really enjoyed my time here! Everything is clean and beautiful. Food is good and staff pleasant. It is really a 5 star hotel. It is true that staff ask to confirm that you are a guest, particularly if you speak the language...I was not offended. They ask because of the proximity to the other hotels in that area. Any who, I think this is the best place to stay in Puerto Plata. No doubt.

An absolutely beautiful hotel. Rooms are well kept and the views are stunning. However if you want to have a good time, avoid this place. It’s more of a retreat than a hotel. Some staff members (including the owner)shush you if you speak higher than a library volume. The owner asked us if we would perhaps be more comfortable in the hotel next door indicating that we weren’t the class of people she wanted at the hotel. Dinner at Lucia wasn’t too great either. We ended up going to another restaurant nearby the next night that was way better. Other than that the hotel is very nice including the beach and pool. The rest of the staff were also very nice including the bellhop. Recommended age group for this hotel is 65+.

Beautiful place, excellent service. We especially loved the rooftop pool and jacuzzis, how close it is to the beach and the view from the breakfast balcony. It felt very private, never many people. Very well hidden away and separated from neighbour hotels. Only downside is the next door hotel playing loud music on some nights.

This review is only for Lucia the restaurant inside the hotel. The service was outstanding. The location is absolutely beautiful and the appetizers & meal were incredible. We were fortunate because I intended to go to a different restaurant that evening but did not realize that most locations are closed on Monday. Luchia was open and I took a chance and could not have been more pleased.

This hotel is my favorite one is Playa Dorada. It’s not all inclusive. Their rooms are very nice and the view is lovely. The staff is very professional providing an amazing customer service. The have parking lot. Their food is great & tasty. They have a very nice garden , I walked around and contemplated the nature which is what I look for before booking any place. The beach is very good. Well recommended

boutique hotel nestled between the beach and the surrounding jungle. The suites are very nice and the staff is there for any need. It is a very relaxing environment. the spa wasn’t great. They just slathered my face in moisturizer and did nothing else. The massage was basic with large gaps of just lying on the table. I don’t think she had a clue what she was doing and kept whispering to the other person. The breakfasts were basic and generally good. We only ate one night at Lucia and didn’t find it interesting. Again, just ok. They let us know 2 weeks before arrival the pool would be under construction. Not really enough time to reschedule as they suggested. The nearby community is older and the shopping mall mostly empty. Not a lot to do close by. You’ll need a car. Ok for one visit but wouldn’t go back.

We loved absolutely everything about this resort! The food was gourmet and delicious, the service was amazing and personable, and our overall experience was truly memorable and exceptional. Everyone that worked there was so kind and thoughtful, and they all constantly went above and beyond to make us feel special and comfortable. We enjoyed the pool, the beach, the spa, and our room. We also enjoyed room service and wonderful drinks by the beach and pool. We were so sad when it was time for us to leave. We can’t wait to come back again and we definitely recommend coming here!

We stayed for four nights in March 2023. Casa Colonial felt like a private oasis in the resort area in Puerto Plata. They did a great job keeping the beach clean. The drinks and food were all very reasonably priced. The room service was tidy. The lamb and goat mofongo were my favorite dishes, highly recommend. The best part of the stay was the exclusivity we felt. We never felt the need to get up early to save seats, and sometimes we found ourselves the only ones at the beach or pool. It almost felt like our own private resort. We will be back! Lisette was a pleasure and made us feel very welcomed. Rafael and Nelson kept us full and cheerful for dinner. And the young man with short curly hair who kept saying "I work for you" seemed omnipresent at the beach and for breakfast. Thanks for making the stay wonderful!

If your are looking for an absolutely magical place to relax and enjoy yourself look no further this is it. The amazing pool, spa, and completely majestic beach. Wonderful staff at your beck and call. The restaurant is out of this world amazing, even if you are not staying there I would recommend stopping by and let them dazzle your taste buds. The room service is the fastest I’ve ever seen. Everything about this experience was excellent. I don’t usually write reviews but I felt the need to share this gem with others.

I had a great stay at this hotel! The hotel is serene and peaceful, and it was a very relaxing experience. The service was also excellent. The spa greatly exceeded my expectations, and had an excellent Finnish style Sauna with bucket and ladle. This Sauna could get quite hot, which was very nice (at far too many places, the Sauna's do not get hot enough). The only area of improvement would be the mattress. The bed was a bit too firm on my shoulder, and a bit too bouncy. If my partner would roll over at night, it could wake me up, and vice-versa. Overall, I definitely recommend this hotel, and when going to Puerto Plata, I would return here.

We absolutely loved it here - welcoming, attentive service, beautiful nature, peaceful atmosphere, lovely rooms, and great food. The spa was fantastic, we especially enjoyed the massages and the dry sauna. The bed was too bouncy, but otherwise everything was perfect. The garden is well tended, lush, with beautiful orchids and singing birds. The ocean is just steps away, and the beach was never crowded. The water was warm and pleasant to swim in. We could see and hear the ocean from our room which was very nice. There was a big bathtub that easily fit 2. The food was great, we especially liked the roasted meat in chocolate sauce for dinner (it's not sweet at all, just delicious). The spa was a highlight for us, the dry sauna gets quite hot if you want, and has a bucket with water you can use to boost the heat and humidity, we love that. We also got a couples massage which was great, very relaxing. The only thing I would suggest improving is the mattress. We found it a little too firm, but more importantly it was bouncy enough that we would wake each other sometimes. Overall, we would definitely come back here. Highly recommend. P.s. we rented a car and drove to and from the airport and Sosua, the road here is really good (a few big pot holes to watch out for but they are easy to see even at night. driving an SUV helps), it is well lit at night, and felt quite safe. Lots of parking at the hotel. Also, there is a shopping area a 5min walk away where you can buy sunscreen, swimsuit, pharmacy, etc. Kinda pricey, but very helpful.

We didn't stay at this hotel but we stopped by to eat at the restaurant and we had a great time. The staff was very welcoming and the vibe was on an other level!! So fancy and peaceful. The food was absolutely delicious. They offer dishes for all diets - meat, veggie and vegan!

My wife Natalie and I stayed at the CC for 5 nights - it was our first time here. The concierge and reservation staff were incredibly helpful before we got there - confirming our reservation and setting up a taxi pick-up at the airport. During our time at the hotel all of the staff were genuinely friendly and helpful. All of the meals were delicious. A special thanks to Ellis S, the pool bartender, who made us fantastic cocktails and was so warm and welcoming. The beach and ocean are steps from the hotel. After a few days we realized that the best place to sit was in the covered open air hut on the east side of the property (by sitting there we were able to avoid the occasional pesky vendor on the beach). The hotel itself is gorgeous, as is the tropical landscaping. It is also quiet and free of the usual loud resort annoyances. Overall a lovely place with friendly people on a gorgeous stretch of beach.

From end to end it was wonderful and exceeded our expectations. The rooms and areas are grand and incredibly well kept. The staff is beyond accomodating and extremely accessible. The beach view is breathtaking and the proximity is steps away from the hotel /spa. Every meal we had was unbelievable and the massages made my lower back feel new again. We are writing this review from another hotel in a different location in the DR and we would head back there now if we didn't have additional travel commitments haha. Treat yourself to this amazing stay as the prices are beyond reasonable for this type of memorable experience.

We stayed at here for a week. The hotel is beautiful, and the grounds, though confined, are expertly landscaped and well maintained. The friendly and helpful staff are there when you need them, a major plus. The spa is bigger than it needs to be and the exercise room is more than adequate. We would have liked to have more options for activities; kayaking, yoga/pilates and organized local trips would have been nice. We’re coming back.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Casa Colonial. The peaceful ambiance is simply unparalleled wherever you choose to relax - room, gardens, beach, pool, or spa. The hospitality, service, and cleanliness truly set them apart from anything I've experienced. (Also had the pleasure of meeting the owners and felt more than welcomed!) Nothing short of exceptional in all areas. Treat yourself to a stay at this hotel, they will take it a step further than you planned. I look forward to returning one day.

I love Hyatt's Small Luxury Hotel series and I've been to several, but this was by far the most complete experience by far. The staff was attentive, friendly, and proactive. Everyone had a GENUINE smile and made us feel special from the front door to our the beach service. Every waiter, bartender, housekeeping staff member, and maintenance worker made us feel special and welcome. I never go back to one place, too many places to visit in a short lifespan, but we're currently finding time to visit Casa Colonial again before the end of the summer. So peaceful and serene. I hate that I don't remember everyone's names ,but Eduardo, Rosa, and Teresa made us feel special. I hate naming just some considering EVERYONE was great. My wife isn't fond of traveling, usually have to drag her, but she's pushing for another trip to Casa Colonial. We visited from May 11th - 16th. Just go, experience what we did and you'll cherish it forever.

Here is how you know this place is amazing. There was a fresh fruit bowl in our room when we arrived. 4 days into our stay, the banana, which had been turning a little bit brown, suddenly was gone. The rest of the fruit remained. I asked my friend if she'd eaten the banana. She said no. Thats when we realized the maid had such attention to detail she had noticed that, on the bottom of the bowl, there was a rotting piece of fruit, and removed it for us. Thats is indicative of the extraordinary level of thought throughout this property. Every staff member felt like an immediate friend (and I don't speak Spanish) and every need was catered to immediately. The pool was nearly empty when we would visit, no need to "save a chair" ever, the views are amazing, and critically, there is *no outdoor music!* You can actually hear the waves, the birds, and your conversation. This is *not* a party spot. Bring that relax energy, and let your stress melt away. It's tiny, 50 rooms, one pool, 4 hot tubs, one stretch of beach, two restaurants (one for breakfast and lunch, one for dinner) and it's amazing. GO now.

I was fortunate to stay here last minute with work. Simply a stunning property from the moment you walk-in. The staff were so friendly and kind. I even had the chance to meet the owner (I believe) when checking in which was a very nice touch. This place is classy and beautifully maintained. I stay in many hotels around the world and this was a stay to remember in all the right ways.

We only stopped for breakfast and to hang on the beach for a bit, but this place was stunning & so tranquil. The ground are lush and the decor is gorgeous. The food was delicious too. Absolutely recommend.

My partner and I stayed at Casa Colonial for 4 nights during NYE 2022, which one would consider peak of peak $$$ season (+$700 incl fees/tax per night for a tropical junior suite). I am shocked this hotel is considered 5 stars. It was a very mediocre and disappointing stay. CONS -terrible, slow, not trusted and untrained service staff. -no cleanliness maintained throughout the property during tday, resulting in pests. -beach night club next door plays LOUD music until 3am, every night. -Lucia, the restaurant, is average at best. PROS -great housekeeping staff for rooms -good complimentary breakfast -we had a good experience at the spa for a couples massage. **The service was awful and none existent…. Once you do manage to flag staff down to place an order, most were very slow and rude. I’ll never forget a woman on service at the pool rolled her eyes at me for requesting a menu (which she had just done for the couple next to us) and then minutes later when we were leaving because we were so taken aback, she shouted at my BF and I to take our pool towels from the chairs (there wasn’t even a dedicated place to put used towels when leaving). Service was very short staffed and they did everything - from bartending, busing, and dinner service - even if they were not trained in the dept. This caused a lot of confusion as they were not educated on the menu (for *nice* NYE dinner) and made terrible drinks. There was a significant language barrier - very few staff spoke any English… Resulting in more difficulties and errors/burdens for the English speaking guests. We learned we were being incorrectly charged for food/drink to our room. Staff would charge us for items we didn’t order, or for 4 instead of 2 beers - which was really sketchy and seemed purposeful, not because of an innocent mistake like the language barrier. After discovering this, we began to request to view every bill and take photos of each. There are no bars throughout the property other than in the lobby, so you cannot walk up to place an order if you could not find a waiter. Making it so you relied completely on service staff. **the hotel was not maintained throughout the day… no empty drinks or messes were cleaned up. This was rather gross as I will never forget the memory of realizing there were dozens of ants migrating into my drink because of a child’s spilled cereal on the other side of the side table that attracted the ants to begin with. Of course, my drink was not comped as service staff could not be bothered. There was always an odor or trash at the pool… I realized it was because there was a mound of hot trash bins right below. The beach was not combed or maintained. Chairs were scattered everywhere. Because of the lack of cleanliness throughout the property, the hotel seemed nothing like the photos and was unenjoyable. **there is a club next door on the beach that plays insanely loud music until 3am every night…. Because of this reason we were actually glad we were staying in the garden area (despite paying ocean view prices). The insane music and loud base was so ridiculous that it was laughable for guests not staying on the beach or that can sleep through noise. I’m convinced someone that dislikes the owner purposely purchased the land next door to do this to troll the owner or something, because there was ZERO customers at the club every night. **the restaurant named Lucia that many go to for dinner is not great or good, just average… the food selection did not offer alternatives and the items were just okay. We had dinner at Lucia for the prix fixe NYE dinner…We made our reservation for a seating time with the lead concierge at the resort, which he even wrote down for us. When we arrived the host told us that our reservation was for a seating 90 minutes later. To accommodate us, she put us in a corner of a room that was hosting a private dinner. So awkward and we received no service since the servers were focused on the 20+ guests @ main table.

The best restaurant on the beach / in the area. Great service, many options, everything on the menu is delicious. They serve breakfast as well, we will definitely return.

The Casa Colonial is a hidden luxury boutique with only 50 rooms. If you are looking for a 5 star quiet vacation in peace and tranquillity than I would recommend you book. The staff and the spa is a five star experience. The food was just as delicious as my last stay 5 years ago. The family owners are very involved in the hotel day by day to assure your stay is up to their personal standards. I could go on and on but it is such a break from a island destination vacation that is packed with tourist. Thank you Casa Colonial for your hospitality. Romona

What a hidden gem! My partner is from Puerto Plata, but he didn’t even knew about Casa Colonial. Driving through the gates and walking in the reception it felt as luxurious and refined as in Four Seasons. The restaurant wasn’t busy, just a few tables but I didn’t care much. Food and service were great, after a bottle of champagne and red wine, we sat outside and enjoyed a few cocktails. 5* and see you soon!

Beautiful and private hotel. Staff go above and beyond to ensure your needs are met. Spa services are excellent with clean and comfortable facilities. Located within the security of the Playa Dorado complex. Beautiful beach with easy access to reef for interesting snorkeling.

This hotel has been absolutely incredible. From the moment we arrived to us staying here, we felt well taken care of. The food is great, the staff is helpful and kind, and the view is out of this world. We are having an amazing time and would recommend this hotel to anyone!
