This was a very interesting tour, although short. My favorite thing was learning about the wood of the barrels and the aging process. Made to accommodate a large crowd but it is a relatively short tour. There is a video based on the history of rum and Macorix. I would prefer to see more of the process being done, etc. We tried 8 different drinks and they were all good. Just remember that's 8 shots ha. You'll walk out feeling a bit tipsy/drunk just enough to go spend an unreasonable amount on rum at their gift shop 😂 Plenty of photo opportunities but no flash photography.

What a joke. If you want to taste the rum, by all means, go to their beautiful tasting room but don't bother with the distillery 'tour'. You go into a hallway, look at barrel, watch a 4 minute video that barely touches on the process of making rum and then they herd you into a room and let you taste mostly sweet, flavored rums. I literally asked when the tour was going to start and they said that was it! Hahaha. The video. Very lame. The grounds are pretty and the rum is pretty good though.

I did this as part of city tour. Was fun if you like rum. We do get to taste 7 types of rum. The entrance is dark for dramatic effect only. They say the barils are full but tap on a few and they are empty. Then we watch a cute 7 min video. Then we taste. We don't really visit the rum.making.

If you love rum, this place is a must-visit for you, if you happen to visit Puerto Plata. You'll know a little bit of history by watching a video presentation for few minutes before the rum tasting. The have different varieties of rum and although I'm not a big drinker, I love their flavored rum particularly the coconut. I love the facilitator, Edgardo, he is very cordial and engaging. Overall, the staff is great and the store is spacious and beautifully designed.

There is a tour every 15 minutes and the cost is $4/ person. Your walk through a small area where they explain about the barrels and aging, you watch a 4 minute film and then to the tasting room. They first tasting is the strongest and my favorite was close to the end …pineapple! There is a gift shop and a bathroom. There is a bar in the gift shop and the sell popsicles with or without rum.

Awesome place. We came here on a city tour. Friendly staff, very clean and very well organized and well kept location. The Rum tasting event was great also. Great flavor, strong Añejo lol (45% alcohol). The flavor rum was sooooo delicious!

Really tasty. I barely remember what the tour guide said or what the video was about after the tasting part which is how you know it was good. Probably my favorite rum I've tried.

They have a highly recommended tour for $4 in which they briefly guide you through the rum curing area. It has a video room and another to taste different types of Macorix rum. My guide has been P. C. and the experience has been a 10! The tour ends in a store where you can buy souvenirs and also some social work clothing.

We visited on a shore excursion from a cruise. It was one of several stops. This isn't a factory tour; still, we enjoyed it. We started with a short film about the founding of the factory and how rum is made. After that, we were taken into a room and given tastes of several varieties of rum. Some were almost whiskey-tasting. Others were sweeter. Overall, an interesting tour, but none of the rum appealed to me.

Loved the experience. Rum is amazing. So much so we brought home 4 bottles. Informative tour with a chance to sample 8 different kinds of rum. Employees really fun

There's something special about rum tastings in the Caribbean and Macorix is no different. In fact, it's one of the best tour/tasting combos out there. For $4USD you get to taste 6 or 7 (I lost count) different rums from their 8 year to their flavored rums. It was so much fun and worth the ride share trip from the Amber Cove cruise terminal. Skip the cruise line sponsored tours and make your own excursion to Macorix House of Rum!

You may get over excited about going here, but dont! Pay a small fee, wait for a tour, then you enter what seems like a "haunted house", but in reality you entered into the cask storage barn. You can not see anything except the wooden rum barrels next to you. The aroma of rum (the angels share) fills the air. Then a short video and onto the only good part, the tasting!! After that its over. You get what you pay for basically.

Nice family owned place, local made rum and very cheap. 2 tour guides and $100 in tips. However.....the rum is nasty. They let you sample 8 different kinds.

The tour was fantastic. The history of rum making on the island was explained by a guide and video. The aging room was really awesome. There are so many barrels of aging rum! At the end of the tour, we sampled 8 to 10 types of rum. They were very generous with their pours and refills. Highly reccomend.

Nice short tour, not really into how they make the rum, just more history. Samples were more of the spiced and fruity varieties and not the higher end samples.

The home of DR rum. We tour was great where we learned about the history od DR rum. The tasting was so much fun. The pours were quite generous. The hosts were fun and extremely engaging. Bring a snack you will need it after. We would do this tour again.

Tour was part of a cruise excursion. Quick history and short walk through of how the process works. At the end there is a tasting of six different flavored rums. There is also a shop to purchase what you liked. Prices are unbeatable.

The best rum I’ve ever had!!! If we ever travel to the DR again we are definitely coming back. Recommend their tour for sure. Its not too long and they are very liberal with the wine.

Great place to learn about the Rum. Unfortunately, it's not a factory tour. But still having samples of their rums at the end of the tour along with some historical pieces on display does make it a stop worth checking out. Definitely pass by the gift shop. Their in-house Rum is affordable and smooth.

I took the tour of the visitor center with rum tasting. The staff were all friendly. We were able to taste 8 or 9 different rums. After which, we stopped for a few minutes at the on-site store. The store also has a bar that sells rum drinks.

Great place to taste some rum but really you dont see anything. They walk you into a warehouse that is very dark while telling you no flash photography. Then they take you to a large room to watch the history of the rum factory afterwards you are rush you into the tasting room. The rum was top choice but you could skip this tour and go straight to the bar to get the same thing

We decided to take a taxi guided tour off the cruise and were so happy we did. Our guide brought us to the famous rum factory where we were able to take a tour with a group. We started in their liquor store while we waited to join others for the tour. They had popsicles for $1 w/o liquor and $2 with. Yes!!! We then went for a tour of the factory where we learned the history of rum and got to try their famous island rum. It was so smooth you didnt need a chaser. Their prices are amazing ($4 for the tour) and we got to learn more about the island and its heritage.

Fun (short-ish) tour (20 mins or so) but with great information on the history of rum and the island. LOTS of FREE samples and very inexpensive bottles for sale at the factory store...if you're.on a cruise however, the rum is even less expensive by a couple of dollars.at the duty free store.at the port. Regardless of where you.purchase it, it's the best.value you.can find for good rum.

I do not drink.... ewwww... I am 48 yrs old and recently took a sip of beer..YUCK... on this trip we went to a museum and we tried a local Rum.... tasted pretty good. Again, I don't drink... but our guide brought my wife, who does drink, and I to this Rum Factory. Well, the presentation was amazing. It was in Spanish and English, and at the end, you do some Rum tasting... I gave in to the pressure and apparently.... I AM NOW A DRINKER!!! Seriously though. After the tour we went into their store and purchased 2 - 1750ml bottles for a low $20 each. Yeah, amazing deal. I like the spice of it. The wife and I have pretty much had a shot a day so far since returning to the states. I highly recommend it!!!!

Had a great visit. Short 10 minute video, then straight to the rum tasting. Be warned, they start strong, then move to the lighter rums. I am not a drinker, so I went slowly. Others in the tour group were not so cautious. So there was a drunken mob element to the rest of the day.
