Well worth the workout to climb the many steep steps and grooved streets to the top of this magnificent spot. You need to be in decent physical shape to make this climb and even then, bring water and take your time. Some of the steps are very steep and broken as is the street, so make sure you have great walking shoes. It certainly is not a walk in the park. There are a few different paths to take, some easier than others, so pay attention to where you start and what route you take. It will take 30-45 minutes at a nice steady pace and most will have to take a break every 5-10 minutes to catch their breath and take a drink. When you reach the old cable car that is not in use, you are almost there. When you do reach the "top of the mountain" (the location of the cross), absolutely go the extra few flights up the tower for the most amazing view. There are a few benches to rest in the shade at the bottom of the tower. There is no running water or bathrooms (they were locked when we were there), so be prepared. Bring a small towel or two to wipe the sweat or soak them in water to cool down. First thing in the morning would be best to make this trek as it could be brutal in the hot sun later in the day. You are in mostly shade as you climb! Again, bring plenty of water! The trip down is so much easier, so if you made it up, don't worry about getting down. Peace & Love!

If you can survive the steep roads and 1 billion stairs! You'll Love it! Awesome views, the tram no longer runs there, so your steppin' it up. No washrooms or water available at top...only the amazing views and self-satisfaction that you made it without oxygen! 😝😁 Come up Abasolo Rd. from Malecon up the 800' of elevation (Same as 80 story building's stairwell 😂) lots of fun. Try it!

Thank you for reading the Honest Reviews4u! While visiting Puerto Vallarta you must make some time to visit this place! However before coming I must let you know the day before coming here make sure you hydrated very good and on the day of your visit have a good meal bring water because you are going to need it. As you walk like a zillion steps once at the top you will have a breath taking view of the city, ocean and green land scape. Very popular place especially to see the sunset and feel the fresh breeze of clean air. Highly recommend this place!!👍🏼

One of the few places where you can watch the sunrise or the sunset in PV. This place is not easy for everyone. The steps are uneven, steep and few railings. I would be very careful especially with kids and elderly. There's a newly opened store when you reached the top. It's a great way to get iced cold drinks to quench your thirst. There's a funicular if you don't want to use the steps, but I haven't really seen it operational.

Very nice view point to see the whole city and the coast line. However it is not very easy to reach. You first go up a steep drive way to reach flights of stairs. It appeared to have a trolly cart to go up and down, however it was not working when we visited. Then we climbed up the stairs for about 10mins to see the concrete structure. Make sure you bring water and wear proper shoes to visit this place. It requires stamina to go up.

The view was outstanding but you do need to be prepared for the climb. Although it is not a lot of steps, they are taller and vary in size. It will take you a few minutes to get to the top. You get a nice view of the bay and the backside of the city. If it's not 112 I say go for the walk.!

Beautiful vantage point over the city! Absolutely worth the hike. But there were two things this area can improve on: 1) The washrooms were not open when we got there. We arrived at around 10AM during the week, not some random early or late time. We had little kids and couldn’t use the washrooms was a big disappointment. So, come prepared. 2) the roadway to the stairs were littered with garbage and dog poops. We had to pay attention not to step on the poops - with small children, that was hard.

I hiked to the Mirador from the Malecon. Quite arduous and I had to stop a few times to catch my breath. There was a funicular for the last part but it wasn't functional so I had to take the steps. The view at the top is quite beautiful.

Ugh, it’s a hike walking up the streets and all those steps but it is definitely worth the work out. There is a small store to buy some water and snacks at the top, along with a pay for use bathroom. The views tho, are incredible.

Amazing views of the entire bay of Puerto Vallarta. The steep streets, and narrow step stairs up to the top are well worth the workout. Just at the base of the stairs before going up to the top, you might find a little street vendor selling bottles of water. We stopped and had a chat with the lady that runs it from her debt porch on the way back down. She also offers a local frozen fruit popsicle like delicious refreshment! After that descent from the staircase that are amazing. Made from in season local fresh fruits! Definitely, a hidden gem for the adventure!

Not for the faint hearted. It’s not an easy walk, but well worth it when you reach the top. I have done this twice now, and both times midway up I asked myself why am I doing this?! :-). But the views of the bay are incredible! Once you reach the top, go the extra few steps and touch the cross, and congratulations you have done it and can tell all your friends about it!! Tips-were good shoes and take your time. Bring plenty of water. Allow yourself to take a break for as long as you need, the view isn’t going anywhere. Once you reach it, take it all in and congratulate yourself to achieving it! Enjoy the walk down, but be careful

So worthwhile the walk up the gazillions steps! Go early 8-9am while it is cool. Not that strenuous as can take your time climbing all those steps. Easy climb, just a lot of steps. Panoramic View at the top was so worth it. I did not even break a sweat.

Great views. It is totally worth the hike up the steep road and several flights of stairs. The way there, however, is not clearly posted. Look or ask for directions to the Hotel La Siesta. Behind the hotel is the road Abasolo. The cross road is Emilio Carranza. Abasolo runs directly up the hill to the foot of the concrete stairs. Also, at the foot of the stairs, there is a fanicular, originally designed to help avoid the many flights of stairs, but it is delapidated and abondoned (I think it's only 5 or so years old 😕). Bring water, good shoes and be very deliberate with each step as the road and stairs can be uneven and slippery. The platforms at the top area bit distressed, paint peeling, some graffiti and parts of the safety rail missing but otherwise it's enjoyable.

Gorgeous views of ALL of Puerto Vallarta! Must see if visiting. Both ocean and mountain views. The walk up there is a killer! Very steep and tons of stairs. Fair warning be prepared. Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated. Their was only two restrooms there. (Male and Female). However it was not open when i visited! BEWARE, take water and go to restroom before even heading out. Nothing to drink or buy up there. I did run into a gentleman that does sell drinks and ice popsicles right before going up the stairs.

It's worth the hike up! Make sure you do it for sunrise (not just because of the extra beautiful view/experience but because of the coolness in the morning)! There are always people going up, so very easy to find. Enjoy 😊🌵

Short walk, but a 400' climb to the top. Amazing views. It's 297 steps a long the closed venicular. No bathrooms and no water. Suggest an early AM time frame.

A beautiful place to look out on to the entire bay! You can get some great exercise by walking up Alemandra from the boardwalk or you can have a taxi drop you at the now paved road at the bottom of the steps, which are still, pretty good exercise! Don’t be afraid though, there are plenty of places to stop and rest if your legs are tired and I see families doing it with young kids full of excitement no problems all the time.

A must place to hike in Puerto Vallarta! I recommend to hike it either early in the morning to avoid a big crowd or around sunset to avoid the heat. The whole walk was about 30 minutes, 45 minutes with stops. Highly recommend!

The view is amazing. We went around 6:30 and chilled for about an hour until the sun set at 7:30pm. The hill + the steps to reach the top will definitely leave you sweaty but totally worth the quick hike.

Amazing view, but what a climb! Don't take it lightly, bring water for sure. The neighborhoods and houses along the way were cool to look at too. DON'T expect the cable car to work, looks like it's been years since it moved.

Nice reward (view) at the top for a very steep walk up the hill. Excellent at sunrise as the far reaches of the bay get the morning's first light. Bring water and a camera.

This is an excellent hike, especially in the AM before the sun comes over the mountains. It is steep especially at the end which is an ascent up stairs. The view is great and the cardio and leg work out is a bonus 💪

Great views, a must if you are in puerto. Very steep but not too long, if you have bad knees don’t even try

Wow, a spectacular view of the whole bay of Puerto Vallarta. Has the cross of course and the Mirador lookout point but be warned it’s a very steep hill with lots and lots of stairs. I’m guessing 300+. Not to mention the street mirador also very steep. There is a small cafe for drinks and snacks at top, side of the Cross and washrooms be sure to bring up some pesos. The cross and lookout is all free and great exercise to boot.

Stunning view and a great workout to get up there. Chill vibe once at the top and plenty of space to just relax and take it all in and decompress.

Very cool area. Could use a bit of a clean up as there is trash littered everywhere along the stairs up. Surprisingly shorter of a climb then I thought.

Beautiful view of Puerto Vallarta. The hike up is mildly challenging, but enjoyable.

  • 5/5 Cristina G. 2 years ago on Google
Worthy sunset lookout point but make sure you bring water and wear comfortable sneakers for the climb. It is all stairs and roughly a 10-15 minute climb from the end of the inclined street.

Wow the view is beautiful now apparently the train taxi will hopefuly be running tomorrow they've been working hard to get it ready! You can taxi or motorcycle to a point but there's still a few flights you have to be able to get up these two pictures of stairs are the least you would have to climb once the train starts working and if you get a ride to the top of the road where the stairs start! Enjoy and bring water and dont rush😬

I LOVE the hike up. It’s short but challenging, but the way down is even harder. My calves were sore for days. They view is amazing.

Be ready for a workout (over 200 stairs) but definitely worth it. The views are amazing. There are benches at the top to sit and just enjoy the scenery. There is also a small store for a quick bite and water/other drinks.

Lovely walk up to the top, very peaceful, amazing views. I was expecting way more steps based on the reviews, but it's actually not that much. We packed our breakfast and had it up there

The hike was tough. There’s two ways of getting here. One street has a lot more turns and more stairs in the path. The other street was a straight away path. There are A LOT of stairs!!!! The view was really nice but it was a bit cloudy when I went. Still worth it!

  • 5/5 Rob C. 1 year ago on Google
Worth the climb. But it’s a decent hike. Would advise to bring water. Great view, went for sunrise, not crowded at all.

It’s about 30 minutes from the beach (depends where you’re at). Spectacular views from the top of the mountain. A great hike. It’s a bit steep but doable. I used Google Maps and did Not get lost. I still had to ask locals though through small streets. They are very friendly. I love Google Map! If you want to get away from the city, beach, people > this is the way to go!!!!
