Red Cabbage Café

Restaurant Cafe Mexican restaurant

👍👍 This is a hidden gem well worth finding. Cuco and staff took very good care of me. It can be weird sometimes in Mexico as a female dining solo, but I was welcomed and made to feel very comfortable. The restaurant itself is unassuming on the outside, but on the inside it is filled with art and color.... People often mention good, restaurant, service, worth, menu, dishes, Mexican, Mole, mole, delicious,

This is a hidden gem well worth finding. Cuco and staff took very good care of me. It can be weird sometimes in Mexico as a female dining solo, but I was welcomed and made to feel very comfortable. The restaurant itself is unassuming on the outside, but on the inside it is filled with art and color. I’m always looking for good mole, and this was the best mole I’ve ever had, with just the right mix of sweetness and a spicy bite. Lovely place, lovely staff, muchas gracias por la comida maravillosa!

If you are in Puerto Vallarta, immediately drop what you’re doing and head to the Red Cabbage Cafe. I’ve been coming to this great restaurant since it opened. Their menu features some of the most amazing traditional dishes Mexico has to offer. Family run and a fixture in Puerto Vallarta’s culinary world since 1994. Have the chiles en nogada, which are unbelievable!

If you dine out, this is a must! This is off the beaten track so you'll need to take an Uber, I actually was a bit unnerved on the drive as it looked like a shady area, but looks are deceiving and this is a gem. The prices are reasonable, the portions large, and the margaritas strong. You haven't had mole until you've eaten here.

The mole was quite delicious! Chicken perhaps a little over cooked but over all a wonderful dish! Weak margarita though. Thought it was over priced.

A Five Star dining review. This is a top notch establishment that has warm atmosphere, excellent menu and the best service. It isn't "cheap", but it is well worth the expense.

In all my worldly travels, this is the best tasting food. Every bite has a wonderful mix of flavors, makes you slow down and enjoy each bite.

If you had a Mexican grandmother, the food here is what she would make for her favorite grandchildren when they come to visit. The albóndigas have grandmother love in them. The quesadillas de huitlacoche are spot on, and if you've never had Chiles en Nogada, try them here. Your Uber will probably get lost taking you here, but be patient with them. This place is worth the adventure. The service is comforting, and they're patient with your Spanish.

We got there and the gate was closed, so we asked the guy at the gate if we could enter. He asked if we read the menu of HIS restaurant. I was little puzzled. We said YES and he reluctantly let us in. From there on it kinda all went downhill. The food was good, but the service - very weird. Felt like we owed THEM to be there. I’m comparison: we went to Pipis and loved it there way more. Red Cabbage is overrated for sure

Dine in, table for 4 seniors. Service was good, the food was even better. Not hard to find, but we needed our map to find our way out after dinner, not a problem if you Uber, we walked in, and back out in the dark, be prepared for your best directions, it's not too far, but its up the river gorge, can get confusing for tourists on foot.

Wow! What a jewel of a place. Pretty, colorful interior with lots of art. Beautiful service. GREAT food. We had the Mexican plate. Some of the best food we've had in Mexico and we've been all over the country since 1980. This place is a must!

This place has a really homely feeling and is off the beaten track. Small selection of great Mexican food, great atmosphere. Will return to sample some of their other dishes.

Cash only! Quaint and cute little place. I loved the colorful chairs and many artwork on the walls. Waitstaff were very nice, food was good but not exceptional. I’m glad I tried it, to try somewhere I have never been. Possibly I’d return, possibly not. Flan was made with too many eggs

Off the beaten path, but definitely worth the detour: Make sure you have a reservation! Try the Frida's Feast for a five course cross-section of the restaurant's best selections.

Excellent Mole! I was encouraged to eat here specifically for their Mole. I'm not a die hard Mole fan, but it was incredibly delicious. I had the Mole Poblano as opposed to the Mole Oaxaca, as suggested by my waiter. I also had the mixed salad with the house vinaigrette dressing... amazing! It has orange in it which gave it an exotic flavor. Loved the art in the restaurant as it is very interesting and I believe is mostly local artists. The owner came around and checked on me and my meal. It's a bit of a walk east from Centro/Romantic zone, but well worth it.

Delicious mexican dishes and drinks, the best mole and guacamole so far in PV, welcoming, friendly and super efficient service, fair prices and lovely decor, I’ll be back! A bit tricky to find so grab a taxi or Uber.

One of the best restaurant meals I’ve had! I only regret I couldn’t sample more dishes. The Chilies en Nogada I had was fabulous & the mole dish my spouse ordered was equally delicious. Though it was recommended to take a cab to get there, we walked from our AirBnB in Zona Romantica & it wasn’t far & we felt safe. I might feel differently if it got too late.

Little bit more turistic than I thought. I loved all the decorations and paintings, good atmosphere. It was all full, I was happy, I did reservation. Food was really mexican. Nothing wow, but good I must be onest. I came here really to see the place, and it was all worth it.

A little off the main fare way this restaurant is a def must go. The food is excellent. The chiles en nogada were delicious as were the quesadillas. All the main dishes were fantastic especially the two different moles. The staff were lovely and friendly. On the list to def be back again!

We were a party of 7, everyone was delighted with the food with the exception of one order, the garlic shrimp was overcooked but they replaced the dish promptly. Excellent service 😋

This is a very cool restaurant, feels very authentic and a bit off the bitten route (though when you get there, you’d find it full of tourists). Food is great, they are serving a menu they say was served at Frida Kahlo’s wedding (don’t know if it’s true), but it is very good. Recommended !

An interesting menu ofOaxacan styled dishes. Everything we tried was very good, but not exquisite. The intensity of flavors may have been toned down to suit the primarily tourist clientele.

Holy Mole! (sorry, couldn’t resist 😊) Living in El Remance for the last few weeks I’ve passed this small, very unassuming restaurant every day. Never a hard sell to try and get you to come in, and I can see why - it’s reputation speaks for itself! I think you can tell a lot about a restaurant from the quality of its house wine, and so the crisp Argentinian Sauvignon Blanc was a good sign. I ordered the Mole Poblanco, and it was excellent - Rich sauce, tender chicken, fluffy rice and tasty refried beans, accompanied by steaming hot tortillas (of which the waiter happily brought more when I ran out). The decor is fabulous (lots of local art) and the staff were charming, even helping me with my awful Spanish!! I had a wonderful evening and am so glad I stopped by. Highly recommend if you’re in PV.

One of my fav Mexican dishes is chilies rellenos. The Red Cabbage came through big time. Absolutely their rellenos are the BEST!! The Chiles En Nogada are outstanding. The traditional Chilies Rellenos were superb. I can’t wait to go back to try the Chilies De Picadillo! The prices are very reasonable considering the excellent quality and large portions. If you want traditional Mexican comfort food this is well worth the effort to get there!!! Sure glad I did!!!

The food and drinks were fantastic, as was the décor. I did the "Frida's Dinner" which gave me the chance to try a few different items as part of my meal. I really enjoyed all of them. The margaritas are also delicious. It's a little out of the way to get here, but that's part of the appeal.
