A nice respite outside of Puerto Vallarta where you can sit by the beach on a chair, have beach chair service, and also explore the local town. It’s definitely touristy but you’re likely on a vacation so enjoy it. There are lots of local restaurants to hang out at, you can take ATV or horse tours up to the waterfall, or you can simply hike your way there. A round trip water taxi from the pier at Los Muertos in Puerto Vallarta was $400 MXN per person round trip. We bought a ticket right next to the pier. It was about a 40 minute water taxi ride each way. A nice way to explore outside of the city while in PVR.

The locals in the downtown area were great and super nice. But the people on the beach that greet you once the water taxi gets there are total scammers. They tell you the chairs, bathrooms, showers etc. Are all free, but that's a lie. They expect you to eat and drink while you are there in order to use them. They also try to tell you different times when the water taxis will come back to pick people up in order to keep you there longer to spend money. The beach water is not clear and looks like you are swimming in a dirty river. The "waterfall" is so small and gets over crowded from the multiple tour groups that arrive at one time. I highly suggest visiting one of the other beaches that the water taxi can take you as they are much cleaner and prettier. Total scam, stay away!!

Very cool beach area! We arrived by water taxi from Puerto Vallarta, costing $200 pesos, about a 45 minute ride. Complimentary use of beach chairs, umbrellas, restrooms, showers and WiFi. There is food and drink service from the bar and the prices were very reasonable, food and drinks were good. Service was fantastic. Can't wait to come back!

People should focus their reviews of service offered by beach clubs on the beach club specific mark, not for Yelapa Beach as a whole. As far as beaches go, it’s possible that others had better luck outside of the rainy season. We arrived on a tour following a day of rain. The water was the filthiest water I have ever seen, and none of us would have dared stepped foot inside it if not to chase our kids, who of course could not be kept away from the “beautiful beach” tour company had promised. Locals confirmed a river meets the ocean in that area, so the brown water is not uncommon. You can see from my photos the difference between the beautiful blue water as you approach the area and brown in front of the beach itself. The sand was very coarse, and all of the small engine boats that bus people to shore absolutely reeked of gasoline. We spent 3h on the beach, long enough to start to get a head ache from the engines. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. I would especially NOT recommend for families traveling with kids. Lots of stray dogs roaming the beach and beach club areas, hoping to be fed (they were surprisingly well behaved, but sad and a major chore to keep toddlers away from the dogs). PS - If you still insist on coming here, take a water taxi. Do not book an “all inclusive cruise”. It should take about 30 min to get here. The snorkeling the cruise offers has poor visibility. It’s not worth it.

Great day out from Peurto vallarta. 45 minute boat trip to get there and free sun loungers on the beach in with the ticket price. We hiked to the waterfall which was well worth it, beautiful scenery all along the way and a refreshing swim at the waterfall to cool down. Definitely recommend

Yelapa is gorgeous and a special place. The water taxi was fun. Its a bit expensive, and there are a lot of boats and tourists even in the off season. Worth going to and checking out, but a bit overrated as a "must do" .

Beautiful little quaint fishing and tourist village on this island. We enjoyed our time on the beach at a friendly little restaurant. No cars, roads. Very peaceful.

Beautiful place - there is a waterfall in town but there is another one you can hike to that has a swimming area a few miles out. Loved all the dogs that ran free and the people were always friendly

I took the water taxi from Boca de Tomatlan for an afternoon beach adventure. Yelapa Beach is small yet beautiful. The town is so authentic. I highly recommend walking through Yelapa to the waterfall - it’s quite the change from PV. It was easy to navigate the transportation to and from Boca via bus/taxi. The taxi driver helped me locate the water taxi to Yelapa which was 240 pesos round trip.

Yelapa has a beautiful beach! The sand is a bit on the course side and the beach is steep so you have to be mindful the powerful waves dont scratch you across the beach. On the beach there are several Palapas serving food and drinks, to your lounge chair it is lovely and relaxing. It's fun to watch the pangas launch and beach to carry people to and from Yelapa. If you are there at the right tide you can watch the pangas cross the sandbar into the estuary for boat work. Very cool to watch.

Pretty beach. There is no dock, so you have to jump in and out of boat. Don't expect to use the showers. They are disgusting. And the locals there walk around and bug you in your lounge chairs to buy their things

Yalapa Beach was one of my favorites spots to visit for great fresh fish but unfortunately the restaurants on the beach have become touristic. I still recomend going but make sure you eat where the tour guide tells you. The boat ride there is spectacular and snorkeling is amazing where you get to see tons of puffer fish and ample marine life.

We came on a snorkeling tour. We stopped to hike to the waterfall then down to the oasis restaurant. The walk to the waterfall was not bad, but there are a good amount of stairs in the beginning then it's a short but some semi step areas. Just be careful with the horse poop as poeple take them up. The water is so fresh so getting in after the hike makes it totally worth it. The restaurants all have lounge chairs to lay in the shady beach areas. In june the weather is hot but there was constantly a nice breeze so it felt beautiful. There is a lady walking around selling pies. They are MAGICAL. Especially the guava and Mango. So good.

Beautiful beach, very calm water. It is not transparent water but a color between turquoise blue and green. It has all the services.

Nice beach to spend the day. There is a waterfall within walking distance and the locals sell food, drinks, and other merchandise. Worth the side trip.

Beautiful clear water on a rather touristy beach. This beach has restaurants and public bathrooms. Tours to the waterfall offered by foot, ATV or horseback. Be aware of the expensive iguana picture option. We were kindly warned so we didn't fall for the picture with iguana offer.

Is a very beautiful beach, the one we went is not in the highlight section. Is in the small village only local. Love the quietness and peacefulness there.

Everything about Yelapa was fantastic. My friends and I spent a large portion of our time at the restaurant/beach bar on the very north end of the beach where we had amazing service. Two men, both named Edwardo work there and their hospitality was unparalleled. I don’t know the name of the place but when facing the beach it’s the farthest to the left.

Such a nice small town vibe. The food under the yellow umbrellas was delicious. Some of the best guacamole and aguachilies I have ever had.

Yallapa beach is a nice quiet beach during February to May. Hot summers from June to October with daily rainfall, heat, & humidity. An overnight is nice. An evening beach party is weekly on Wednesday & Sunday nights, otherwise there is NO NIGHTLIFE! More accomodations than Las Animas beach. A very fast, (short ride), parashute ride for $50 USD The locals don't haggle much. Your a dumb tourist, & pay or do without. Bringing preferred snacks is suggested. All forms of drinks are available for $$$
