Upon
my
husband’s
retirement
from
medicine,
we
embarked
on
a
long-awaited,
relaxing
winter
in
Puerto
Vallarta.
Two
weeks
into
our
trip,
I
began
experiencing
severe
back
pain
and
within
two
more
weeks,
I
could
not
walk.
I
had
some
occurrences
of
back
pain
in
the
past,
but
never
anything
severe.
An
X-ray
done
in
the
states
prior
to
our
trip
showed
age-related
demineralization,
raising
no
red
flags
for
a
significant
issue.
We
contacted
Pam
Thompson
at
Healthcare
Resources,
Puerto
Vallarta,
and
she
arranged
an
appointment
with
Dr.
Robles
for
the
following
day
-
a
Wednesday.
Dr.
Robles
conducted
a
thorough
interview
of
my
history
and
symptoms
and
an
examination
and
arranged
for
an
MRI
the
following
day.
The
MRI
revealed
a
partial
compression
of
my
spinal
cord.
I
saw
Dr.
Robles
the
following
day
(Friday)
to
discuss
the
results
of
the
MRI,
as
well
as
what
was
happening
and
next
steps
to
be
taken.
After
much
consideration,
my
husband
and
I
decided
that
it
would
be
far
too
risky
to
travel
back
to
the
US
for
a
procedure,
as
it
would
risk
compressing
my
spine
further
or
even
severing
my
spinal
cord.
In
the
short
time
that
we
had
gotten
to
know
Dr.
Robles,
he
made
both
of
us
feel
comfortable
and
at
ease
and
extremely
confident
in
his
expertise.
We
made
the
decision
to
have
Dr.
Robles
perform
the
surgery
in
PVR,
and
he
scheduled
it
for
that
Monday.
Additionally,
lab
work
and
a
cardiology
visit
were
done
in
home
over
that
weekend
in
preparation
for
the
surgery.
The
surgery
went
well,
I
spent
a
week
in
the
hospital
with
daily
visits
(often
twice
a
day)
from
Dr.
Robles.
When
it
came
time
to
be
discharged,
Pam
Thompson
arranged
for
door-to-door
ambulatory
transportation
and
an
incredible
in-home
Physical
Therapist
who
created
a
program
of
therapy
specifically
tailored
to
my
needs
and
lifestyle.
I
can
vividly
remember
going
into
the
operating
room
that
day
and
asking
my
husband,
“Will
I
ever
walk
again?”.
I
am
happy
to
report
that
I
am
indeed
able
to
walk
…
and
to
enjoy
life
again.
I
am
forever
grateful
to
Dr.
Robles
for
his
kindness,
expertise
and
the
expediency
that
he
displayed
in
his
care
for
me,
and
for
his
continued
follow
up
in
the
months
that
followed.
Puerto
Vallarta
is
truly
fortunate
to
have
Dr.
Luis
Robles
--
such
a
talented,
dedicated
and
compassionate
neurosurgeon
to
care
for
them.
