This is a place to be for Young & Old. Especially for the toddlers. Every parent makes it a point to take their kids to the zoological garden. This is not only just a place but one of the oldest in India. Even Sri Ramakrishna visited here in 1888 to see the Lion. The zoo is much well maintained than the last time I visited, which is probably quarter of a century ago. The fauna looks well fed and at peace. We were able to see most of the species barring the Hayenas and the King of the Jungle. Plastic is completely banned inside the park, so take note of this before entering. I could not find any food joint inside so it is better to carry your refreshments as there is plenty of space to sit & relax. The adopt a wild child concept is novel and inspiring. Many have already taken part in this venture and more will follow. Ticket prices have increased from Nov 1, thus making adult entry Rupees 50 and Child below 5 entry Rupees 20. Absolutely loved the experience. Hopefully won't wait another quarter of a century to return.

Almost all kinds of animals and so many types of birds are there. Ticket fee is neither cheap nor expensive. Zoo is well maintained but due to large number of public,it is not so cleaned. Anyway one time visit is good. It is very good for children hence best place to visit your children.

Wonderful zoo with a wide collection of animals, do come here with friends and family to spend a day with our wild friends! It might take you almost 4 hours if you want to see the entire thing at a steady pace. Probably the best zoo I've ever visited in all of India!

Research and Planning: Before your visit, it's a good idea to research the zoo's location, opening hours, ticket prices, and any special exhibits or shows. This way, you can plan your visit accordingly. Once you arrive, you'll likely need to purchase tickets or show your reservation confirmation. Alipur zoos offer maps after entering, that can help you navigate and find your way to different animal enclosures. Some facilities may also have playgrounds, picnic spots, or other recreational areas for visitors to relax and take a break. It was a fun place, a good place to go for educational trips and the animals are back in shape again and the nocturnal house is very wonderful and the kangaroo although a bit shy is very beautiful, I heard it was recently brought to the zoo. I saw more enclosures being built. Excited to see what is coming in the future.

From the previous time this time the experience was very better. Tough there was a rush for Winter Holidays which generally remains from December to February. You will not be able to see the animals like Reptiles, Tiger and some cold blooded animals in this period... For winters it is a nice place for having picnic ending quality time with friends and family members. But still according to my point of view the zoological authorities not paying proper attention to the food and habitat of the animals in some cases. Anyways overall it's a nice place to visit in Kolkata during winters.

Alipore Zoological Garden. The most important childhood MEMORABLE place. It's very good in terms of short outing, meeting with friends, family get together , picnic & winter outing as well as mind refreshment & hangout. The animals can also be adopted for one year after some paper work with zoo authorities. One humble request to everyone specially parents of the children that don't feed anything, I repeat ANYTHING to the animals as it is extremely harmful to their health and don't disturb the animals while doing their regular normal activities. Your such approach to entertain your children is extremely discouraged and it is punishable offence too.

Nice place to visit, will go soon once the undergoing construction finished. Overall, it is pretty good with lot of green plants and clean surroundings. Only at one or two I find there is no cleanliness otherwise it is very beautiful and mesmerizing. Area is sectioned into different parts for various categories of animals. I went in rainy time so felt that tiles are bit slippery though. Food items are not worth for the cost paid.

It was a treat to the eyes to watch healthy animals roaming around. The process of adoption is impressive. However, what needs attention is dirty toilets. If taken care of Alipore Zoo will surely be top notch for weekend outings.

Very good place for picnic, hangout, time pass. A good place for children and families. Tickets is just 30/- for whole day enjoyment. Also you can go to online alipore zoo website for E-TICK. Foods are available inside Zoo and you can also take foods from outside. Animals, birds, reptiles etc. are there. Plastic is completely prohibited here, don't use it. friends. Try to buy the ticket online as it will save the hassle of standing in long queues which would set you back by 15-20 minutes on a good day. The online ticket entry gate is just beside the main exit gate keep an eye for it as it is not prominently visible. Best time to visit the place is in winter when the weather is mellow. Tiger and lion enclosures and open air elephant and giraffe enclosures are a must watch. Food options inside the zoo is however limited so plan accordingly. Don't expect social distancing norms to be followed inside so it's better to keep your mask on at all times and sanitize often to ensure your own safety.

One of the favourite places for kids of all ages...this zoological garden is situated at Alipore amidst sprawling acres of land and water bodies. The varieties of wild life, birds makes this place a very enjoyable one for people of all age groups. The place has ample spots for family picnics and even small food outlets where one can get sumptuous snacks at reasonable prices. This zoo also has the royal Bengal tiger which is one of the largest attractions of this place.

🦁🐯🦒🦌🐻 Alipore Zoo Review 🌿🦜🐘🦓 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Visiting Alipore Zoo was a delightful experience! 🏞️ The diverse range of animals, from majestic lions and tigers to graceful giraffes and playful otters, kept me captivated throughout my visit. 🦁🐯🦒 The enclosures were well-maintained and spacious, allowing the animals to move around comfortably. 🏞️🐾 🦜🐘🌿 The zoo's efforts in conservation and education are commendable. Informational signs provided fascinating insights into the animals' habitats and behaviors, making the visit both entertaining and educational. 📚🌍 The lush greenery added to the overall ambiance, providing a natural setting for the animals. 🌳🦓 🍔🍕 The food options were a bit limited and could have been healthier, but that's a minor setback considering the overall experience. 🥤🍏 The staff were friendly and approachable, ready to answer questions and provide assistance. 👩‍🌾👨‍🌾 🚻🧼 The zoo's cleanliness and hygiene standards were well-maintained, ensuring a pleasant environment for visitors. ♻️🧽 The only downside was the crowd, which made some areas a bit congested, but in the weekdays, it's opposite.🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️ In conclusion, Alipore Zoo is a must-visit for animal lovers and families. 🐾👪 The opportunity to observe these magnificent creatures up close, along with the zoo's commitment to conservation, makes it a valuable and enjoyable experience. 🦁🐘🌿🌟

This was a very nice place to visit with your family. But the animals are not maintained that well...the management should pay more attention to this. sometimes people were harassing the animal and he was actually trying to reach those people... The tigers were also very agitated because they were walking while people were working outside and people were constantly flashing their flashes. Was taking pictures with... It was sad to see that they didn't have enough security... Also where there was a guard, they were rude and rushed us... But some of the guards were really nice Were... giving directions and helping people. I would recommend that if you are planning a trip to go on a weekday as it will be less crowded and much easier to see the animals. PS: Winter is ok.. but in monsoon, the zoo is really beautiful.. rain makes the background lush green and more romantic.

The Zoological Garden, Alipore (also informally called the Alipore Zoo or Calcutta Zoo) is India's oldest formally stated zoological park (as opposed to royal and British menageries) and a big tourist attraction in Kolkata, West Bengal. It has been open as a zoo since 1876, and covers 18.811 ha (46.48 acres). It is probably best known as the home of the now expired Aldabra giant tortoise Adwaita, who was reputed to have been over 250 years old when he died in 2006. It is also home to one of the few captive breeding projects involving the Manipur brow-antlered deer. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Kolkata, it draws huge crowds during the winter season, especially during December and January. The highest attendance till date was on January 1, 2018 with 110,000 visitors. The zoo remains one of the most popular winter tourist attractions in Kolkata. The footfall figures in 2016 showed an annual visitation of almost 3 million — more than any other tourist attraction in Kolkata, and a peak of over 81,000 on Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The zoo displays a large number of crowd-pulling megafauna, including the royal Bengal tiger, African lion, Asiatic lion, jaguar, hippopotamus, great Indian one-horned rhinoceros, reticulated giraffe, Grant's zebra, emu, and Indian elephant. Previously, other megafauna like the Panthera hybrids and the giant eland were present. The zoos have been shut since March 17 because of the Corona-19 pandemic. Creature sweethearts would now have the option to see what the chimpanzee is doing in its walled in area at the Alipore Zoo in Kolkata, civility a live streaming. The specialists are likewise wanting to include a voiceover during the live meetings with some portrayal about the creature that is being appeared to make it more instructive. Individuals will have the option to have a 360-degree perspective on the creatures in the live meeting The specialists propelled a versatile application in April to have virtual visits. The Alipore Zoo in Kolkata has chosen to upgrade customary checking of large felines and exacting execution of security standards after a tiger tested positive for COVID-19 at a zoological gargen in New York, an authority said on Monday. A four-year-old Malayan tiger named Nadia has tested positive for COVID-19 at New York's Bronx Zoo, specialists said on Sunday. The tiger is accepted to have gotten the infection from an overseer who was asymptomatic at that point. Since mid-February a few prudent steps, for example, spraying of antiviral medication inside the enormous felines' fenced in area and in the nursery have been taken. The zoo sports a large collection of attractive birds, including some threatened species - large parrots including a number of macaw species, conures, lories and lorikeets; other large birds like touracos and hornbills; colourful game birds like the golden pheasant, Lady Amherst's pheasant and Swinhoe's pheasant and some large flightless birds like the emu, cassowary and ostrich. Layout : Laid out on 45 acres (18 ha) of land, the Calcutta zoo has been unable to expand or modify its layout for over 50 years, and thus has a rather backdated plan. It contains a Reptile House (a new one has been built), a Primate House, an Elephant House, and a Panther House which opens out onto the open air enclosures for the lions and tigers. It also boasts of a glass-walled enclosure for tigers, the first of its kind in India. A separate Children's zoo is present, and the central water bodies inside the zoo grounds attracts migratory birds. The Calcutta Aquarium lies across the street from the zoo, and is affiliated to the zoo.

A busy zoo even on weekdays Their exhibits are very modern with exotic animals such as Jaguar, Kangaroo, Hyena, Zebra, Chimps. They also have a White tiger exhibit, lion, tiger, leopard. Which are their major attractions. The zoo itself is well maintained and has adequate toilet and food facilities along its length. The exhibits are well maintained with proper name and species information and also small snippets regarding the animals food habits. The zoo also has adopt an animal option, under which you can adopt an animal to pay for its maintenance and food for an year. And the information of the adopter is displayed with photograph in the animals exhibit. You can easily spend a day here if you're slow on pace and can haste through within half a day.

Alipur Zoological Garden offers a delightful experience for animal enthusiasts. With a variety of creatures from lions to colorful birds, the zoo provides an educational and entertaining visit for families. The well-maintained enclosures ensure a comfortable habitat for the animals, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility. Visitors can learn about different species through informative placards, adding an educational touch to the outing. The park's layout allows for a leisurely stroll, creating a relaxed atmosphere. While the zoo may benefit from occasional updates, it remains a charming destination for those seeking a day of wildlife exploration in a serene setting.

I visited so many times Alipore Zoo since childhood. But still I find it attractive and nostalgic. Latest additions are Kangaroo and modern glass-cages for tiger, leopard and jaguar. Yesterday for the first time I saw peacock and white peacock unfolding their magnificent tail feathers, after hearing the magestic roar of lion. I enjoyed the play of funny baby elephant with his mother. The fuchka outside the campus was also awesome. In a nutshell, I enjoyed a lot. Alipore zoo is most famous for having been a home to several indigenous species of mammals, reptiles and birds, spanning over the past 140 years. The place becomes the most crowded during the winter months which are the peak tourist season in West Bengal. Zoo Timings: 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Aquarium Timings: 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM Ticket Counter Timings: 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM Note: The zoo remains closed on Thursdays(exception: if thursday is a public holiday, it remains open)

This is a great place to enjoy with your family and kids. You can carry your food and replenish yourselves. However plastic wrappers not allowed inside. Wonderful collection of birds and animals. Though I personally think that birds deserve larger area to live. Car parking is a challenge of course. I parked nearly 1.5 km far in a narrow lane.

There were many tigers in the scattered regions of the zoo.The atmosphere is good but during the Christmas holidays it was overcrowded.

Both east and west of the roadway leading from the Zeerut bridge were untidy, crowded unsavoury bustees. Today we shall find on the site of the old bustees the Calcutta 'Zoo.' A very large share of the credit for the establishment of this pleasant resort is due to Sir Richard Temple, who was Lieutenant Governor of Bengal from 1874 to 1877, but long before the scheme assumed any proper shape, Dr. Fayrer, C.S.I., in 1867 and again in 1873 Mr. L. Schwendler (known as the 'Father of the Zoo') had brought forward and strongly urged the necessity of a Zoological Garden…The visit to Calcutta of His Majesty King Edward the Seventh, then Prince of Wales, was seized upon as an auspicious occasion. On 1 January 1876, the gardens were inaugurated by His Royal Highness, and in May of the same year they were opened to the public.[3] Cotton, H.E.A (1909) The zoo had its roots in a private menagerie established by Governor General of India, Richard Wellesley, established around 1800 in his summer home at Barrackpore near Kolkata, as part of the Indian Natural History Project.[4][5] The first superintendent of the menagerie was the famous Scottish physician zoologist Francis Buchanan-Hamilton. Buchanan-Hamilton returned to England with Wellesley in 1805 following the Governor-General's recall by the Court of Directors in London. The collection from this era are documented by watercolours by Charles D'Oyly, and a visit by the famous French botanist Victor Jacquemont.[6] Sir Stamford Raffles visited the menagerie in 1810, encountering his first tapir there, and doubtless used some aspects of the menagerie as an inspiration for the London Zoo.[4] The foundation of zoos in major cities around the world caused a growing thought among the British community in Kolkata that the menagerie should be upgraded to a formal zoological garden. Credence to such arguments was lent by an article in the now-defunct Calcutta Journal of Natural History's July 1841 issue. In 1873, the Lieutenant-Governor Sir Richard Temple formally proposed the formation of a zoo in Kolkata, and the Government finally allotted land for the zoo based on to the joint petition of the Asiatic Society and Agri-Horticultural Society. The zoo was formally opened in Alipore - a posh Kolkata suburb, and inaugurated on 1 January 1876 by Edward VII, then Prince of Wales. (Some reports place the inauguration on an alternate date of 27 December 1875).[7] The initial stock consisted of the private menagerie of Carl Louis Schwendler (1838 – 1882), a German electrician who was posted in India for a feasibility study of electrically lighting Indian Railways stations

The zoo has become quite disappointing. As children it was so fascinating and we had so many wonderful trips. But now so many cages are empty, dirty, over grown. It's very sad. My son did not enjoy it much. Hope they improve it and restore it to its former glory.

Beautiful place to bring children. Entry ticket 50/- per person. Below 5 years old ticket 20/- per head. This is only entry ticket to the zoo. You have to buy aquarium ticket separately. That is 20/- per adult and 10/- per below 5 years. Zoo is closed in every Thursday. But if any Thursday is national holiday then the zoo remains open for that particular day and closes for the next day. Ticket counter timing : 9AM - 4:30PM Zoo Timing : 9AM - 5:30PM Aquarium Timing : 10:30AM - 4:30PM

Good place to visit for a picnic with kids. They have maintained the zoo very well. If you want you can adopt an animal for a year or more, for that you need to contact the administrative authority of the zoo committee. Moreover its a very good experience. So many animals & birds. One will enjoy a beautiful experience. Outside food are allowed but without plastic bags. No plastic are allowed inside. Food cafes also available inside the zoo.

It is a really nice place. But the animals are not maintained that well.... Government should really look into it. We saw some people bothering the rhino and it was really trying to reach to those people... the tigers too was very agitated as they kept walking while people were working outside and public was constantly clicking pictures with their flashes on... it was sad to see that they did not have enough protection... also where there was a guard they were rude and was hurrying us... but some guards were really nice..telling directions and helping people out. I went with my family and friends twice this week itself. And I frequently visit the zoo as I have many little cousins who love to see the animals..so I notice the changes a lot. They have brought some gibbons which were not there last year..they have built a new house for the nocturnal animals.. also they are working on my empty places..probably to bring more animals...which is really nice. I would recommend anyone reading this and planning to visit to go on a weekday as there would be less crowd and it would be a lot easier to see the animals. P.S: Winter is fine.. but in Monsoon, the zoo is really pretty..the rain makes the background greener and more romantic. Have a nice time!

The entire campus is maintained well, animals are being fed properly (you can even see the feeding). There are separate zones in the zoo for having mini picnic (obviously no cooking allowed). There are water/snacks counters across the zoo. The main cafe is on the right side of the main entrance. It has AC and Non-Ac seating area. Entry fee was 50/- and there isn’t any other fee inside (except food/consumables). Visit this place and have a nice time with friends, family & kids - just be sure not to throw away ‘plastics’ anywhere. Please don’t litter & use the dustbins placed inside.

The collection of the animals is appreciable. The arrangement by the zoo administration is good. Few aspects could be even better. The one aspect that annoyed me to agreat extent is all of the food stalls were marked as "Halal Food". I don't understand the bias and partisan approach. It may be good or favourable for any particular section of the visitors but I feel as we live in a democratic country and all has few basic fundamental rights, like here right to have food my way and of my choice. But here all the food stalls were tagged to serve a particular community and in a particular way which offended me. This is not acceptable. I don't have any objection to anyone having HALAL FOOD but i don't like having it let it be veg or non-veg. The authorities should make sure that there is equal arrangement for all kind of foods respecting sentiments of all religion. If there are stalls mentioned "HALAL Food" there should be stalls that serve "ONLY VEG" or "JHAKTA FOOD". I had to stay hungry till I finish off the tour inside the zoo. This is unacceptable. I am quite annoyed with this and over all such an experience happened in Kolkata the capital of WB. I remember a popular saying that what Bengal thinks today The Nation follows; considered to the intellectual capital of India...this is unacceptable. This sentimentless error should be corrected ASAP. Or the best approach is do not mention anything. Indicating a particular community is unacceptable.

Animals can be seen displaying their best behaviour, when observed in silence.. not by hooting at them.. The authority should try to control that. And perhaps attempt of making it more publicly educational under guidance of wildlife biologists would be a huge benefit I believe. Most of the animals seemed to be in good condition.

It is probably best known as the home of the now expired Aldabra giant tortoise Adwaita, who was reputed to have been over 250 years old when he died in 2006. It is also home to one of the few captive breeding projects involving the Manipur brow-antlered deer. This is one of the most popular tourist in Kolkata. Beautiful place. They have many exotic birds and other wild animals. The mighty royal bengal tiger is the main attraction of the garden. However don't go in the afternoon as most of the animals spend the time sleeping in their caves, specially in the reptile house almost all of the snakes were sleeping in the bushes which makes them really hard to spot.

An excellent place to be. Time will fly by and you won't even get a hint of it. Friends or family, this place be savored with anyone. This being the oldest formally stated zoo in india holds a heritage of its own. The open enclosures and the glass separated ones are indeed lovely. As winter progresses the crowd only gets thicker. People tends to make it picnic spot for no reason and making the place dirty as a result.

Zoos are never good... We all know how animals and birds are tortured over there... But then too these time, environment was cleaner than 5 years ago.. I saw a 16 year old giraffe there, it was written for adoption.... I don't know but I really wanted to adopt that baby..!!! 😍🥰 But the thing is expenses for him is much more and the salary I get, may be not enough for him... Not today but one day I shall adopt them all for sure... ❤ What fascinated me was those plants and trees... All with scientific name and common name.... Because of them only, I will revisit that place.... 😊😊if u r really into trees then go for it,

We visit this zoo yearly in winter but this yr we visited after winter & just before summer - the day we visited was sunny but we’ve seen all the animals active. Actually irrespective of the season - the timing is critical. We entered the Zoo around 9:30 AM and have seen the animals are active. I’ve visited many Zoos across the globe and i’ve noticed animals are active just before their meals … specially all the carnivores. A great place to visit with your friends and families. Come in the morning to enjoy the scenic beauty of the well kept garden and the waters. You won't realise how time passes by so easily. An enjoyable picnic spot. Do not litter around. Keep the place nice and clean. All the children will love the place. Try to follow the "Zoological Guide Map" provided in many corners within the zoo, click a picture of it in your phones, so that you don't lose your track. Try to encourage your child to watch the animals, birds, reptiles and their playful activities. Make them read the "scientific names" of all the plants, animals, birds and varied reptiles. Keep a watch over your child and not lose them in the heavy crowd. It will be fun for them. Try to take your children once in a while, every year. The more, the better. Make their "new learning fun oriented".

Very nice place. Awesome for picnic parties as well as for family trips for a weekend. You will find lots of different types of animals and birds. Also name and description of each and every animal is written on a board and is attached to their cage. Place is really well maintained. I really really really liked the "cages" of both Royal Bengal Tiger and the Anaconda. The cage of Royal Bengal Tiger is ideal and perfect for The Famous breed. JUST ONE REQUEST TO WHOEVER IS READING THIS--- Please please please do not disturb any sleeping animals by tapping on their cages. Please do not make noises nor try to provoke them, to move around. If he is resting let him rest. Also please stop those "creatures" or so called humans who are acting like hooligans in front of the cage. REMEMBER YOU ARE VISITING A ZOO, NOT A CIRCUS

Entrance fee : ₹10 for kids (upto 5yrs) and ₹30 for anyone above 5yrs... Timings: 9AM to 4.30PM (ticket counter) 9AM to 5PM (zoo Garden) 10.30AM to 5PM (Aquarium) The facility is open all day except Thursday. (except on public holidays). If you are planning to go to a natural place along with your family or friends, it can’t get any better than going to Alipore Zoological Garden, Kolkata. It is one of the most visited place in Kolkata. However, since it is a very crowded place. The place is not maintained properly. At times even endangering lives of the poor animals. Most of times its because of the visitors who tries to tease these birds. Recently a pair Kangaroos died because of this idiotic behavior by the visitors. With the mesmerizing nature and a wide variety of animals, it certainly will be the most rejuvenating as well as educative experience for you and your family. This Kolkata zoo started way back in 1876 and is located close to the river Ganga with an incredibly impressive scenic beauty. Unlike any other zoo, this zoo has been consistently engaged in the Sundar Ban wild life preservation. Many wounded birds and animals are brought and kept under special care in this Zoo and this has helped massively in the preservation of the endangered species of Sundar Ban. You can certainly have an amazing time there and if you are along with your family, this is going to the best gift for them. Watching the amazing animals and bird species like This proves the stunning beauty of the Alipore Zoological Garden.

Alipore Zoological Garden One of the most popular picnic spots of Kolkata, as well as a must-visit attraction characterising the ancient heritage of the city, the Alipore Zoological Garden was founded in 1876. Having undergone several renovations throughout the years, the zoo surrounds and is built around one of the largest expanses of fresh water (lake) in Kolkata. This lake offers a temporary resting place for several migratory birds from Siberia, and the joy of having a magnificent sarus crane fly over your head is breath-taking. Other attractions include the reptile house, housing different species of snakes, lizards and also the gharial, a kind of crocodilian endemic to India, as well as several aviaries which serve as a home to budgerigars, parrots, cockatoos, pigeons, pheasants, toucans and several exotic species. Not only does the zoo serve as home to mammals like elephants, lions, tigers, zebras, giraffes and chimpanzees, but was also renowned for its oldest resident – Adwaita the Aldabra giant tortoise, who was one of the oldest living creatures of the world at the time of its passing. With its vast expanse of greens and open spaces, the zoo offers a much-required break from the noise and smoke suffocating the city beyond.

Perfect place for picnics/ a day out with family & friends. Ticket price is really low,. For children its ₹10 and for adults its ₹30. There are plenty of small snacks stores inside the zoo, and surprisingly the prices are very readable ( like chicken sandwich 2 pcs only ₹40, chicken patties for only ₹30 , popcorn ₹20) , and many more. Toilets are also there . Parking space is located to the opposite site of the entrance ( it is paid parking for bikes its ₹30) . You might not be able to see all kind of snakes but some are visible, . But other than that by only paying ₹30 its the best place to enjoy the winters in kolkata. Really had an amazing time there.

The zoo is not safe at all...the people who are visiting 70% of them are not wearing mask properly or not wearing mask at all... there is no safe distance between too persons and in weekend it is a mess. My opinion would be to avoid the zoo for now but if you can't resist yourself make sure you have a sanitizer and you are wearing a mask the whole time of your visit.

We visited Alipore Zoological Garden a day before. At first we saw Zebra, there after Gorilla. After that we finished our lunch. After the lunch we saw Tiger, Indian Lion, Indian Rinoceros, Anaconda, Kangaroo, Indian Elephant and Giraffe. After that we finished our tiffin and everyone took a ice cream. After that we returned our house. In essence our tour to the Alipore Zoological Garden is charming.

The world is a huge place to see. It consists of so many living organisms that it is impossible to see each and every one of them. Especially for human beings, who are fascinated very much by animals. For the same reasons, zoos were created so that humans can interact better with animals. In other words, a zoo is a facility that has animals, birds, and reptiles of all kinds. They are confined to space where they are given food and medical facilities. The government has given strict guidelines to maintain a zoo. This is done keeping in mind the animal’s safety. In addition, zoos are made breeding grounds for animals to protect their species. Benefits of Zoo Zoos were made to bring wildlife closer to humans. It gave humans a better and up-close view of them. This allows various researchers and scientists to note the behavioral pattern of the animals. It helps them in their studies and discover new things. In addition, zoos are a great source of entertainment for kids. They love visiting zoos and interacting with animals. This helps them learn practical knowledge about the animal. It also gives them exposure to wildlife and widens their knowledge. Furthermore, zoos give us easy access to rare animals. Had it not been for zoos, we would have never been able to see what some animals looked like. We enjoy their behavior and it also creates awareness about the extinction of the rare species. Similarly, zoos are a safe breeding ground for animals. They ensure the animal breeds so they never go extinct. This helps in creating a good balance. Moreover, the zoos ensure the animals get all the nutrition in their bodies to lead a healthy life. This is beneficial as the animal may not get guaranteed meals in the forests.

Needs a revamp, many animals are underfed, specially noticeable in tigers. Water is mossy in many water bodies, availability of clean drinking water is a myth here. Variety can be increased. Many animals are alone and bored affecting their mental health. It is always best to see animals in their natural habitat and this is true only in case of few animals in this zoo. Parking is a big problem and traffic control needs better organisation. Food courts doesn't even accept card , that should give an idea about the restaurants. You can't get even hot water and they force you to take bottled water. People use it to spend time with family , coming with own food, eating there, playing and passing time. Animals are not properly maintained.

I visited zoo after two years, no of speciess are becoming less, snake house is completely empty only python was there, many species are missing. Government should take initiative to bring more species. Some of animal lover like me will be more happier. I always happy to see different creatures. Apart from this everything is well maintained.

India’s oldest zoological park , near national library , laid out on 45 Acres . One of the most famous picnic spot for family & huge crowded in weekends . You can carry your food here ( no plastic ) n spend entire day , you will get water - washrooms & snacks corner across the zoo. Known for attractive species like royal Bengal tiger, Asiatic lion, jaguar, hippopotamus, great Indian one-horned rhinoceros, reticulated giraffe Grant's zebra, emu, and Indian elephant. You can see here so many birds species like large parrots -macaw species and some large flightless birds like the emu, cassowary and ostrich. Prefer to plan here for weekdays to get less crowd , need minimum 3-4 hours if you want to comfortably all species , can book online ticket to ignore rush at counter , parking is issue so prefer cabs or some pick and drop facility . Must visit place to visit with kids .

Alipore Zoo is the oldest zoo of India. It is spread in huge area with countless trees and greenery. It's a popular attraction centre of tourists and children in Kolkata. The zoo houses many animals such as tiger, lion, jaguar, hippopotamus, rhinoceros, giraffe, ostriches, zebra, elephant. Different species of birds can be seen here. You can also see fishes, tortoise, alligator, snakes and various types of plants in this zoo. Awesome place to visit with family, friends and kids. It is so vast, cannot be covered at a time. Here you will get all the natural bliss. Must visit this lovely place with your kids in winter.Ticket price is very reasonable with required amenities for visitors. In November, 2016 I had visited 3rd time.

Nice place to spend with family and kids. Covers a huge area with lots of greenery. You will see many animals here, from all around the world. Latest addition is Anaconda. In the last few years, several animals are shifted from small places to open enclosure, which is a plus point. Some new animals are introduced too. Some changes are going on in Ezra House( the place for Giraffe) The description attached to the cages/ in front of enclosure will give you detailed information about each animal. There are clean toilets in the zoo campus. The entire zone is plastic free. Littering of any sort is prohibited and bins are placed at regular intervals for use. Foods are allowed inside. There are very limited options of buying food from here, as due to covid situation the zoo restaurant is closed and most of the small food stalls are shut down too. I was not aware of this fact, so had to buy from one of the stalls. It is overpriced compared to the quality. Coffee was good though. So, it is advisable to carry your food if you plan to spend the whole day here. Entrace fee is Rs 30/- N.B. I visited this place twice this year. There is a passage / tunnel at the entrance for sanitization. But yesterday, 7/11/2021 it was not working. So for the safety of yourself and of others around you, it is advisable to carry your own sanitizer and wear masks. Because I saw many visitors in the campus not following the Covid protocols.

This is zoo is best that I saw so far. It has kangaroos, a giant tortoise, giraffes , zebra and lot more foreign animals. They are placed so nicely, so that someone won't miss anything. And you'll get a clean view of animals from near. Many shades are there to take a break, food stalls, washroom, drinking water facilities are everywhere. Only one thing they can improve, they can install battery vehicles for elderly.

Although the zoo is a very bad system because the zoo is the only "PRISON" where all the "INMATES" are exclusively innocent, it is a good logical arrangement to introduce young children to wildlife etc. The Aquarium is located in the same place on the other side of the road. It is also very nice to introduce your children to the marine life. The cheapest and most convenient way to get there is to reach, Metro. Get cab from "Rabindra Sadan" Metro Station and reach Alipore Zoo for only Rs.50/- fare.

The Zoological Garden in Alipore deserves nothing less than a stellar 5-star rating! From the moment I stepped foot into this enchanting place, I was transported to a world teeming with majestic creatures and incredible biodiversity. The park's well-maintained grounds, clean facilities, and knowledgeable staff immediately impressed me. The wide array of animals, ranging from graceful elephants to exotic birds and ferocious big cats, left me in awe. The enclosures were spacious, mimicking natural habitats and providing the animals with a comfortable living environment. The educational exhibits and informative signboards enriched my understanding of the animal kingdom. Moreover, the zoo's commitment to conservation and animal welfare truly shines through. It's heartening to see their active involvement in breeding programs and conservation initiatives for endangered species. The staff's dedication and passion were evident as they shared valuable insights about each animal and their conservation efforts. The Zoological Garden also offers enjoyable activities like boat rides and toy train tours, making it an ideal destination for families. The lush greenery, well-manicured gardens, and serene water bodies added to the overall charm of the place. I highly recommend the Zoological Garden in Alipore to all animal enthusiasts, nature lovers, and curious minds. It offers an immersive experience that educates, entertains, and instills a sense of responsibility towards our precious wildlife. This remarkable zoo deserves every bit of praise and recognition it receives.

A famous tourist spot in Kolkata. A good place specially for kids. Place is well maintained.toilets are clean but need to be cleaned in the visiting hours also. U can carry food inside the premise and food is also available in the premise. I always love to visit zoo in any place... Lots Of animals are here.. Must visit place... But you have to walk more if you want to cover whole zoo.... Rare animals like... Chimpanzee, elephant, giraffe, etc..A suggestion for zoo is they have to arrange small E-rikshaw type train for the whole zoo for old person or need full persons... The place is very good to visit. The environment of the place is very calming and eye-heart-mind-soul soothing. The area is covered with lots of trees. Different species of animals are there.

The Alipore zoo's idyllic and lush surroundings make it a delightful destination for a peaceful day out with family and friends. It boasts numerous shaded areas, inviting visitors to unwind, indulge in a picnic, and closely observe the array of species in their natural habitats. The facility houses a diverse collection of wild animals, each in their designated enclosures spread across a vast expanse. Allowing for a leisurely 3-4 hour exploration, the zoo serves as an excellent educational opportunity to introduce children to the wonders of wildlife. The captivating experience is sure to captivate the young ones. However, it's recommended to plan your visit during cooler weather, as the absence of adequate shading for visitors could pose discomfort on warmer days.

One of the 'GO TO' places during the winters in Kolkata. It was very crowded and it will remain the same during the weekends. Scores of people flock to this zoological garden as the winter chill sets in. The White tiger and the Royal Bengal tiger were according to me the prime attraction. On a personal note I would like to visit this place during the weekdays, avoiding the weekend rush can certainly be a better option.

It's one of the oldest zoos in india, but the development of the zoo is very poor. Almost all the visitors had complained about the same, even the animals were not taken care of properly. But the area was cleaned. In the restaurant food quality was okay ( overpriced). The most important thing is that, they should sell entry tickets online, so people can save time and avoid unnecessary crowds.

Beautiful zoo with well trained staff to take care of exotic animals and birds. Our kid loved the place, it was well organised with so many animals and birds to look for. Amazing experience, would recommend everyone with kid's not to miss this zoo. Its beautiful. They have inside premises a restaurant named, Scoop, staff well trained and food is good too. Overall had good time.

Open till 5 pm, this place is an essential for family picnics and mass outings. Though a bit unclean, it makes for an awesome hangout location (especially for children). Many animals are available there and safe distance must always be maintained.

Amazing experiences!!! A must visit if you love nature and wild animals all along. They have huge variety of animals and birds for that matter. I really loved the vibes of the place. It usually gets little rush when it opens and you may have to wait in the queue but the wait is worth it!!

Great to see new animal, like wild dog roaming majestically. It is just charming to hear chirping of birds. After a long gap I visited this century old zoo. It was really made my day. The zoo is very clean. A perfect place to relax and enjoy.

We are here in Kolkata the city of joy for the first time and we get the chance to visit this beautiful zoo. The Kolkata zoo located at Alipore is a very popular attraction with the locals. We had been here and spent half a day. The zoo has many enclosures housing animals like hippos and giraffes but they need to be maintained a bit more to make it more attractive for the tourists to visit. It used to open early morning but now timings have changed to 9.30 a.m. Seemed to have less animals. Relatively the enclosures were clean. It was an easy walk around the zoo. Elephants and giraffes were very good. There seemed to be less monkeys than earlier. Nice to have a picnic on a pleasant day. Best place for animal lovers. White tigers only found here. Giraffe and White tiger we watched first time there. Approximate time required to roam around would be two hours. Morning hours are preferable. Opposite the zoo is the Hotel Taj Bengal. Wide variety of animals but as mentioned place is keep very unclean caused by throwing cups and other plastic covers. Sad to see that we do not respect the place where we keep the animals caged.

The Zoological Gardens, Alipore (also informally called the Alipore Zoo or Calcutta Zoo) is India's oldest formally stated zoological park (as opposed to royal and British menageries) and a big tourist attraction in Kolkata, West Bengal. It has been open as a zoo since 1876, and covers 18.811 ha (46.48 acres). It is probably best known as the home of the now expired Aldabra giant tortoise Adwaita, who was reputed to have been over 250 years old when he died in 2006. It is also home to one of the few captive breeding projects involving the Manipur brow antlered deer. One of the most popular tourist attractions in Kolkata, it draws huge crowds during the winter season, especially during December and January. The highest attendance till date was on January 1, 2018 with 110,000 visitors.

Very good place to visit. It is the biggest zoo in India . It has a huge variety of animal and bird species in it. It was first established during the British rule in India. Ever since it was established, it had been prospered with many new species of animals, not only mammals but also several bird species, reptiles and amphibians as well. There have been several important species in this place. Be it a several year old tortoise to white peacocks or be it rare variety of Bears or black buck. Royal Bengal Tiger is one of the most popular species of this place. National library is beside this place. There are several bus, auto rickshaw routes to this place. There is a public aquarium beside this place too. Several migratory birds come to this place every year during the winter season. This place is best to visit during the winter season, though monsoon season is also a favourable time to visit this place. During the cold months the reptiles usually take rest or may go through hibernation, making it difficult to see them in the cold months. As per the climate of KOLKATA, monsoon would be the best time to visit this place as one can enjoy the sight if almost all the species in the zoo during this period of the year. There is a glass enclosure for tiger and jaguar and cheetahs in this place right at this time, but the authorities are constantly improving the garden for more species to be displayed in the place. There is also a good food supply chain in the place where healthy and a huge variety of food, refreshments and beverages are available. I would suggest that every one should visit this place at least once i their lifetime. Very much beautiful and joyful place to visit in the city of joy.

The Alipore Zoological Gardens in Kolkata is popularly known as Alipore Zoo or Calcutta Zoo. It is India’s oldest formally stated zoo and is the busiest tourist attractions in Kolkata, West Bengal. Spread across an area of 46.5 acres, the zoological garden was established and opened for visitors in 1876. Alipore zoo is most famous for having been a home to several indigenous species of mammals, reptiles and birds, spanning over the past 140 years. The most famous of them is now expired Aldabra giant Tortoise “Adwaita”, who lived for 250 years before dying in the year 2006.

I visited Alipore Zoo a long long time after. I found the Zoo is clean. The enclosures also changed and became clean. If I am not wrong formerly the animals name like babu , siba also reflected in front the enclosure, this time I missed those names. I enjoyed with my little boy who is very curious to see his friends. Hope see you soon again. One thing I am suggesting the authority to remain strict about the mask, I found many many of them roaming without mask inside zoological garden after security check. One more thing, that the personnel do great job.

Please don't bring plastic. Keep it clean

I went there on 24 Dec 2020. It's a great palace for fun, entertainment and education. The animals were in good condition and were much energetic, although the open air enclosure tiger was a bit thin. The aquarium had less variants though. Still it was a great place and worth every penny. 😀

  • 3/5 Sattwik M. 3 years ago on Google
I have returned here again and again; the absolute enjoyment of watching animals have compelled me to return here. The zoo itself has huge potentials, but suffers due to a lack of proper maintenance and upkeep. The zoo could use better landscaping, better signs and better utilise and take advantage of its scale and heritage. The zoo should also make better facilities for older people, such as carts, for enjoying a full tour.

One of the best place to visit with children... No doubt they will enjoy and have some life long memories... Have seen a lot of changes from my childhood... Hence, will suggest everyone to visit this place... Only thing is try to avoid weekends and remember parking is an issue this place....

  • 4/5 Ayan C. 3 years ago on Google
A good place to spend the day with family and friends. If you don't exit from the main gate call up your cab and mention zeerut bridge as the pickup location.

One of the lovely place to visit in winter season. I have been visiting the zoo since childhood and there were some changes this time like leopard, tiger kept in glass open chambers.Ostrich, kangaroo, giraff, lion, white tiger, elephants are main attractions of the zoo. What I have understood that you have to 'lucky' to see the animals as animals themselves don't come out always in the open to give us 'darshan'. This time I stayed 'lucky' to see the animals which I missed last time. If you are in kolkata, it becomes almost mandatory to visit the zoo atleast once a year specially in December.😁

I can't believe their entry is just 30 INR!! So much to see in so little time!! You'll have to spare a few hours but it will all be worth it. If you're lucky, you might even get to spot a Lion coming out of its comfort area (we weren't so lucky). Although, we did get to spot Tigers & Elephants amongst a lot others. It's a must-visit place if you're in Calcutta!

  • 4/5 Arn N. 3 years ago on Google
Open even on Thursday. Inside is very much crowded. So my best advice shall be to avoid the place for now. People are allowed to gather inside. Some groups are even celebrating picnic! Most of the species are there. Tiger, giraffe, birds and sloth bear are main attraction. Reptile section is not so good, but many crocodiles are there. Only reason I am deducting a star is for so much crowd and little to no security to control them. In CoVid situation it is not expected. So if you go please maintain proper safety.

  • 3/5 Dr.Chittaranjan K. 3 years ago on Google
I think authority may look on the cleaning and maintaining section... My humble request to all and authority if any one read my comment please don't allow any type of food in zoo... The garbage of the food materials and plastics polluted the environment of zoo.. Not allowed any types of snacks soap at zoo.. Only drinking water and washroom may need in zoo... At least zoo may be far from politics.. Because the money which spend here that was public money not any political leader pocket money....

There is no such animal as expected not much to see.... only there is different species of Deer, parrot, mexcan parrot, peacock, tiger etc.. apart from this no such species are present in this zoo right now in December 2020 next year might they bought some new one. How much guidelines were mentioned in the website of Alipore zoo regarding COVID-19 no such strict measures were taken..... it's public mass mistakes not the authority.... that's all.

A beautiful place from children and family. Its a place where you can spent whole day. Currently ticket is rs 30/- per head. Here the main attraction is the chimpanzee on the first left after the main gate entry gate. If you are lucky then you can also see the giraffe cubs. You can also see the idle bear, always sleeping.

Good experience, specially for young kids. Lot of birds, deer, some tigers including white one, lion, elephant, leopard, jaguar, chimpanzee, zebra, bear, crocodile, alligator, turtle and others. The ticket counter may be crowded at times so better buy tickets online and get seamless entry. People were coming in group with homemade food, tea, rackets, bedsheet/carpets, some used newspapers to rest and enjoy group lunch.. Things which needs to improve - clean toilets and quality food items. Overall it's good place for a kind of picnic. Outside road is pretty busy and you can find many street vendors selling food, toys, balloons, handmade caps, artificial jewelry etc. Public transport is available as well just from the gate for different parts of Kolkata.

It could be the most wonderful zoo in India but it's not the same. It is as let off by Britishers. There should be more amusement things like toy train, boating, climbing park etc. Zoo Authority should notice this.

There have no more animal. only one bear, two small elephant, one lion.. In reptiles section, there is no more snacks, maximum part is blank. Light system is so bad, you can't see snacks properly 😕

Great for children, specially in winter season because all the birds and animals come outside for sun bathing. Lots of birds also gather here for migration and feeding... Although you are not allowed to feed the animals if you are lucky you can see them up close. Overall it will be a wonderful weekend experience with friends and family.

Requires urgent and serious attention from the Higher Authorities regarding the well-being of the animals and maintenance of the park. I felt very bad seeing the health and state of the animals. The most horrible experience was the crowd. Most of them were not wearing masks not even the children.Mocking and jeering the animals and even found parents encouraging kids to pelt stones at the poor creatures. More of a Picnic spot and less feeling of a Zoo. The crowd littering just everywhere. Soo dirty and dusty. No security personnel to look after any kind of situation. Inadequate and improper sign boards to guide you through the park. I personally had a horrible experience.

Alipore zoo is one of the most visited place in Kolkata. From the age of infants to senior citizens no boundaries are there to visit. In last few years , Zoo authority took few more animals like kangaroo, Turtles(after the death of that 200 years old turtle), new Leopards, Jaguar etc which were not there. Few reptiles also came to zoo like Green Iguanas etc. The entry fee is still 30 rupees. People can book tickets online also. This is the most common place for a small family picnic.

Good place to hangout,, happy to see roaring Royal bengal tiger, Giraffe, small Turtle 🐢 , kangaroo and various kind of birds..I have visited on sunday, so the place was very crowded and people are throwing garbage here and there..for that reason some place was looking very dirty ..But there is one big problem regarding the Map of zoological garden , it is very confusing.. I think zoo authority should work on this,, it will help many visitors specially first time visitors.

First week of January 2021, I had visited the place with my 6 years old son. We enjoyed so much. There was nothing to notice on pandemic it was completely same as other time. The place was full with people on the day. Lots of food and snacks stalls were available and opened for all. Enjoyed watching Kangaroo, Zebra, Giraffe, White Tiger, Royal Bengal Tiger, Bear and many wildlife fauna along with various kind of birds. But most of the snakes were taking rest due to winter season. There were places available to sit and take rest or eat foods. Toilets were also available at convinent distance. Overall, Enjoyed the Zoo!!

The zoo had its roots in a private menagerie established by Governor General of India, Richard Wellesley, established around 1800 in his summer home at Barrackpore near Kolkata, as part of the Indian Natural History Project The first superintendent of the menagerie was the famous Scottish physician.Buchanan-Hamilton returned to England with Wellesley in 1805 following the Governor-General's recall by the Court of Directors in London.

I had an amazing day here. Went with my family so the place was quite good and children friendly. Little childrens enjoy this place very much cause of the varieties of animal and birds. The place needs more security persons, so the people can follow the security rules, many were breaking the rules.

Wonderful experience. Zoo is well maintained. Lots of animals and birds. Kids will enjoy a lot. You will get multiple drinking water spots, mostly clean toilets, snacks counters inside. Price of things inside are normal - unlike most other parks which charges too high inside. Also be prepared to walk 4-5 kms to cover it fully. I saw no arrangement of a carrier for elderly people. Only drawback is car parking. Car parking charge is Rs. 100 outside - but that gets filled too early. We reached at 10 am and didnt get parking in front of the zoo.Had to go little far to park the car.

A great place for children as well as adults. The upkeep of the place can be better. Life for the animals must be made more comfortable. Since it is a well frequented place, the authorities should strive to provide better amenities for the visitors. Another suggestion is to plant grass on the dusty plots so that it is not a problem for people to sit on the ground and to eat their spread.

It was an worth visit there..could see several birds, reptiles & animals and the area is also nicely maintained. Tigers, lion, bear, zibra, Ostrich, hippopotamus, rihnosorus, elephant, peafowl , various lizards, etc.. we were fortunate to get to see them. Only disappointment was couldn't find "White Tiger" which was one of the attractions that we were looking for as since childhood have heard about that..However it was a nice visiting there and other thoughts have been fulfilled... Good job guys, keep it up.. It was too much crowded on the Sunday we visited but still was able to see all these as it is built and well maintained in a huge area. Overall very happy visit... Thanks much !!

worst and ill maintained....Unfortunately there is only one zoo and for the sake of your little ones u don't have any other option but to go. It is infact a day of picnic wherein you can have an outdoor eating and back to home. Almost all the zoo is ill maintained...nothing is there .The snake section is empty. Only one or two white tigers. It like a wastage of time. This was nit the sase some 10 years back. On top of that the biggest comedy is that u find names of CM and other political leaders which make the whole place a waste. It does not deserve even 1 star. Pls do something to help this place.

Hi friends being a kolkata origin resident I had visited alipore zoo more than a dozen of times since my childhood and in very recent time also.At the previous time the zoo had a significance, at earlier time during the 90's or the initial of 2000's the zoo had a much variety of it's animal and birds though. In recent times the zoo had no importance left, the quantity of the reserved animals, birds and other creatures had enormously fallen down.though the zoo is much big and kolkata's one of the renowned and old zoo is it.This zoo has it's fame throughout the india and upto Asia.Still now the zoo is vacant, there is almost nothing left to see. To say, every time of the year the zoo remains mainly vacant and unoccupied by the visitors, only the winter time it draws some crowd, Mostly because of the kids predominantly that time the zoo gets some center of attraction, else other time of the year people almost don't go there.and adult people why would go there because is there is almost nothing to see new, the zoo either don't bring any new and foreign animals, it's going on it's same and old way. To say about the animals there is few tigers, few numbers of ziraffes, only one white tiger, 2-3 royal bengal big tiger, 4-5 lions or lioness, only 5 leopards, no elephant there, only 3 zebras, few collection of peacock, 2-3 crocodile, 2-3 hippopotamus, a good amount of deer is available with golden deer too, a few of golden duck, and a good few collection of various snakes which of those mainly either don't come out from it's den or some are already old and look unimpressive.Previously the zoo had a 500 years old turtle which was very famous among the kolkatans and many of the people used to go for the attraction of that old turtle but, now only a small turtle can be found there.apart from all those just after the entry you can see a big house or caze of the birds which is very fascinating and the sounds of those birds during the winter's morning time especially makes you feel very charming and beautiful.Apart from these all the zoo has zero, as I have already mentioned that this had been an old and very ancient zoo of this country so the capacity of the the zoo is naturally very big, you would love to spend time visiting the whole zoo, only if you have enough of work free and worthless time.I would like to add the zoo management can bring ome foreign and new collection of animals and can reform or renovate the zoo newly. The zoo really needs to be reformed newly and needs to be more decorated, being an old, ancient and so famous zoological garden of this country, the zoo really loosing it's significance. Thank you

I love this place ❤️ to visit frequently whenever I feel to be more close to the nature.different types of living organisms, and specially the atmosphere of the park is awesome beside the ganga.

This is a good place to take your children for an outing.. they will enjoy the view and the animals . It is a crowded place so try to avoid going on holidays.. Thursday's the zoo remains shut so plan accordingly.. it's a vast area and will have to walk a lot to cover everything so be prepared. Carry your own food especially for children as inside you will get only junk food with very limited/minimal option. We were lucky enough to get a close view of lion, tiger, cheetah, elephant etc. Try going morning or post lunch otherwise these animals would be sleeping and you won't enjoy the view. One good point is water tap available at accessible distance in case you need to wash your hands or any other purpose. Toilets could have been cleaner if maintained properly .. access at your own wish.

  • 4/5 Debalina B. 3 years ago on Google
Very nice experience to visit there are 25 years. This time went there with my 6 years old child. Maintained nicely. But there is written outside food not allowed but many people were having picnic from home made food. No one to look after. Average cleanliness maintained. Toilets were very dirty and not at all cleaned time to time.Toilet water was overflowing on the street nearby the toilet. Animals can be more or less seen nicely.

Fantastic collection of animals. Royal Bengal Tiger is the star attraction among with, White Tiger, Asiatic Lions, Asian Elephants, Hippo, Indian One Horned Rhino, Zebra among others. The Zoo has a separate Reptile section as well. It has many different picnic spots. You can spend at around 3 hours to completely visit the area. The best part is it is near and clean. The spoilers can be the weather. Please carry sufficient water to stay hydrated. There are a few outlets that provide drinking water and snacks for a reasonable price. All in all a good place to visit for a picnic.

Great experience to visit a zoo and Alipore zoo has its own collection of animals. They have 5 plus variety of deers, leopard, white tiger, bengal tiger, lion, birds and many more. A bit of advice to the zoo administration is to take special care of the tigers as they look ill treated and malnutrition ed. Also, due to multiple layer of cages the visibility is hindered. Rest of all a great place to take your kids for a day trip.

This is a good place to see the wild animals. It is full of old green plants. But the animals and other wildlives are in scattered way no arrangements are there. We we talk about cleaning it is very poor. People eats food and throw waste in open area. Dustbin is available in all places. There are no transportation facility inside the zoo. Also I observed the maintenance of animals is not proper means they didn't provide good feeding for animals because we have seen animals are very hungry and was showing weak.

Well the Zoological gardens is an excellent place to visit in the Kolkata winters especially with children. At times you will feel that the animals are little unkept but then the zoo authorities have begun an adoption policy. To know more on this, please visit the official page of the Alipore zoo. The zoo looks neater now and there are security personnel spread over the places to keep a check on the visitors. The zoo is closed on Thursdays.

Crowded. Online ticketing option is good effort. But Kolkata Zoo should be avoided on holidays, festive occasion. Huge crowd. Many people come not to enjoy the zoo, the animals, birds but picnic and start eating as soon as they enter inside.

  • 4/5 Biswarup B. 2 years ago on Google
This place a must visit for children. Take your child to this place, so that they can see and feel the animals, the nature and when they study all those animals/creatures in book, they can visualise them easily. Now, as picnic spot this place is also good. But try not to make the environment dirty, as this can cause harm to those animals/birds. Cost of ticket per head - ₹30( it may change time to time) please check online. Plastic bags/thermocol plates etc. are not allowed to take inside the Zoo. You have to leave then at the gate. Overall the zoo needs few modifications and they are also modifying and may be more attractive soon.

Very crowded on saturday and sunday. Half of the animals you cannot see because of crowd or the animals are sleeping inside. People just coming for eating and picnic because entry price is very low. Outside people selling mask by telling lie that you will not get entry without mask. I had the opportunity to visit Alipore Zoological Garden during my trip to Kolkata on 23rd May 2022 and I must say that it was an amazing experience. The zoo is spread over a large area and is home to a diverse range of animals and birds. The enclosures are well maintained and the animals looked well cared for. I was particularly impressed with the lion and tiger enclosures, which had large open spaces for the animals to roam around freely. The birds section was also impressive with a variety of colorful birds. One of the highlights of my visit was the elephant ride. It was an amazing experience to see the animals up close and to be able to ride on them was a thrilling experience. The zoo is also well equipped with food stalls and souvenir shops, making it a complete package for a fun-filled day out with family and friends.

  • 5/5 Ajay K. 8 months ago on Google
The zoo's serene and green surroundings also make it an excellent place to spend a peaceful day with family and friends. There are ample shaded areas to rest and enjoy a picnic while observing the various species in their element. One of the highlights of my visit was witnessing the majestic Royal Bengal Tigers in their spacious enclosures. The zoo's commitment to conservation and animal welfare was evident as the big cats seemed content and well-cared for. The sight of these magnificent creatures up close left me in awe and instilled a profound appreciation for wildlife preservation.

I love the place. It's not that you have to go there just to see the animals. You can spend some time there just like going to a park and the environment there is just like a park. You will enjoy it. You can any day, anytime hop there. Apart from witnessing the animals, it's a place you may go alone to indulge and enjoy yourself there or else you can go with your friends.

Alipore Zoo in Kolkata offers a diverse collection of wildlife, providing an enriching experience for visitors. The zoo's lush greenery and well-maintained enclosures create a pleasant environment. However, some areas may benefit from additional signage for better navigation. The variety of species, including endangered ones, showcases a commitment to conservation. While the overall experience is enjoyable, periodic upgrades and enhanced educational programs could further elevate Alipore Zoo as a premier destination for both locals and tourists.
