Had a terrible experience today .. invited my friends for a bengali dinner and had a huge face loss.. probably one of the worst bengali food we had .. few dishes were not delivered but billed when asked they said it would take more time to amend the bill .. service was extremely poor .. we had to wait for an hour for the food when there were only 3 tables .. we canceled all the further dishes that was ordered as they did not even prepare those after waiting for so long and they were happy when we canceled it also .. it was a complete faceloss in front of my friends.. food was even not worth mentioning.. portion sizes were absolutely less than any other well known restaurants .. Not recommended at all to others .. Not coming back again for sure

Really enjoyed my lunch here. The food, the ambiance, the staff behaviour everything was nearly perfect. It is a nice cozy place, they have retained the vintage style of the interiors and the food they serve is also very well presented. One can reserve table here over phone. If you are looking for a home style Bengali thali and have time for a laid back lunch or dinner this is the perfect place for you. Definitely recommended.

Best known for authentic Bengali cuisine served in traditional style. Ambience takes us 100 years back to give extraordinary feel which adds more taste to the food. Economically priced and courteous staff's.

Nice ambience. Authentic traditional indoor decor. We ordered a veg thali and a fish thali. Both thali was consisted with ghee bhat (Govindo Bhog chawl) , fulko luchi(4pcs), Alur dom, Dal, Potol bhaja, lauer dalna ( they told us that's sukto), papad, amer chatni, misti dahi, sandesh. From fish thali we have choosed 2 option of fish, those are bhetki paturi, and daab chingri portion. Quality of food was ok ok. Behaviour of staffs was good. One most important thing is that they are not accepted any kind of UPI OR CARD system..

Food is good but comes in small portions. It is a boutique place with great atmosphere and beautifully designed interiors. It is good to visit one time as the rates are pretty high.

This restaurant serves authentic Bengali cuisines. Great atmosphere. We took 950 thali there they served mutton chicken with two fish items. Daab Chingri highly recommended. Only mutton they provided was not good like they just served cold curry. I will not recommend that one.

Kewpie came to my surprise when I first visited this small cozy restaurant inside a age old bunglow in Off Elgin Road, kolkata 2years ago. It's lane opposite Forum mall and lane next to Shri.Subhash Chandra Bose bunglow, now a museum. This was my second visit during Durga puja.. offcourse that was a privilege At kewpie you find everything fresh and just out of kitchen. One can order thal along with other dishes on menu. A must try is mutton kosha, loochi, motor er dhokla, daab er chingri, chaal er paayesh..and the list continues...it's just yummm...the aura and ambiance makes you just fall for the place! Attaching few picture... hopefully it will make you restless ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

The food is aweful, very shabbily kept place, the toilet is super filthy. We ordered mohabhoj thali @ 1200/-, the quality of food was unimaginableโ€ฆ the fish was burnt, no mutton.. only bones, my daughter wanted to order doi potolโ€ฆ it was two fried parwal in a bowl of uncooked curd.. donโ€™t know what was going on. Guests were pretty upset with the food and servicesโ€ฆ wouldnโ€™t recommend anyone to even go and try once. Please avoid this place.

The food is delicious. Just that the waiting period is too long after each menu getting served due to the shortage of staffs.

Was looking forward to kewpies, lovely setting inside, my food arrived within minutes of my ordering and was luke warm at best, it certainly wasn't freshly cooked, I had item's that were on my bill I hadn't ordered as well, this however was rectified. It was 9pm when I arrived, so not late but I felt rushed. I wouldn't return. I've had better meals in kolkutta for a lot less !!

I am writing this review while I am waiting for my sweet dish for last 10 mins which was ordered with a combo.... Quantity of items in combo is very less. Had to wait for 10 mins in middle of the lunch, for every item which should be served together as its combo..we were told to wait in middle of lunch as they were cooking rice. Pathetic. Price is not at all worth. Check the bowl for reference. For every dish we had to wait like hell even for last dish ( desert )

We came without prior booking. Some items on the menu weren't available but that was a small issue early covered by the delicious food served. Good decent service though it took them some time. Price was reasonable.

I loved the food and the service was excellent. Lentils and potato curry, part of a set, we perfect with the round puffed bread that came with it. They served a tomato puree as well with lentil cracker that I would have never have identified as Indian, very sweet and cool, almost Italian flavoring, but excellent taste and aperitif. Mutton curry, small bowl which was plenty, as well as a piece of fried fish finished the meal off, except for the yogurt like sweetened dessert, also very good. Overall very pleased with the meal and highly recommended.

Visited Kolkata and was very curious to taste bengali traditional food. Had food in three restaurants. The worst among the three is Kewpies. The restaurant's (house) interior was well decorated. Yess it's a house made into restaurant, but the rates for the dishes as per me are too high (slightly above a 3 star hotel). The portion of dishes are pretty lesser and rates appeared higher when compared to the other two restaurants. Expected a homely treatment as it's a house turned restaurant. But the appearance of people there is below average and there is nothing homely there. The receiving and serving of meals was pathetic. Never visit.

Right now the quality of food served is pathetic - prices are too high. Previously this place used to serve authentic & very tasty bengali cuisine but now it has detoriated drastically. Might because of the sad demise of the lady who used to own & run the show, the quality has detoriated & the present management is failing to keep up to reputation & standard set by her.

We reserved a table online Tuesday, went and it was closed. Phoned and they said they would be open Wednesday and Thursday evening. We reserved again for Thursday and again it was closed when we visited. It didn't look like it had been open in a while. Disappointed as we had heard a lot about it and won't get to visit when in Kolkata. Maybe need to update their hours online.

This is the only place I regretted eating at in Kolkata. Extremely late service, very average but overpriced food. And I really didnโ€™t like the fact that the manager made very tall claims about celebrities eating there including (if you believe it, Bill Clinton) but they have no pictures to show it. I donโ€™t think this of fake PR is really necessary. Just work on your service instead.

Overpriced. 550 + taxes for a limited veg meal which was pretty average. This is not even sufficient for a child! A normal restaurant in south indian would cost 1/5th of this and tastier. We ordered Mutton Koshy which was tender and yum. The Crab dish we ordered was decent as well. The desserts served post completion of the meal - Sandesh and Mishti Doi was good. This is generally good at any decent restaurant in the city.

The food is tasty by the way. Owner not very simpathetic. Food was served too fast. Imposible to cook that fast. It was pre-made. The dishes are over rated. We were alone in the restaurant. Try to decrease your prices and be a bit more smiley with clients. Make your card machine work and try to prepare the food as soon as somebody order it. Not before. My opinion: old glory living from the Lonely planet.

Great place for authentic Bengali food in Kolkata. Ambience is that of an old Bengali house. Very tastefully designed. However, the service this time was extremely slow and inaccurate. It included wrong orders being brought to the table, food taking an inordinately long amount of time to be brought to the table, forgetting orders, incorrect items added to the bill. The food is still great, but the service left a bad aftertaste in the mouth. The service used to be impeccable before. I don't know what happened.

Authentic Bengali cuisine served on terracotta plates and banana leaves. Go for the ambience. Converted into an eatery from an old house, it still conveys the grandeur and old age charm of Kolkata. Book in advance. Take time out because the process is slow, food takes time to be delivered.. enjoy an unhurried meal. Highly recommended

The quality of food at Kewpieโ€™s has deteriorated over time to an extent that would deter me to a repeat visit. Except for the โ€œbegun bhajaโ€ which appeared to have been freshly prepared all the other items were taken out from the freezer, warmed and served. In effect, the food tasted stale; on the whole a not too pleasant an experience.

Ambience, quality & quantity all are remarkably poor. It's not up to the standards that it claims to be. Just a marketing gimmick. Very disappointed. An insult of the Bengali dishes we have loved growing up

I visited this place on a Bijoya Dashami day(Oct 5th)after hearing some good and great things about this place but the reality was a bitter one. The rice & dal served were overcooked (gala bhat in Bengali) similar to the ones served to the patients during the hospital. The bhetki fry was burnt and after repeated request it was changed but the quality was more or less the same.Food served were less in quantity, overpriced and pathetic in taste. The waiters hired were wannabes who didn't have any answers on the recipe mentioned in the menu card and shared incorrect information. Last but not the least they don't accept cards for payment which in today's world is really weird & I had to shell out cash. First and the last time visiting this place and will not recommend to anyone.

Well I just had a sumptuous meal at this place, and , oh boy! It's worth it. The place has been converted from old heritage building. The ambience is fantastic. They have various choices for 'Thali' as well as ala carte options. The thali food quantity seemed perfect for a person. One can enjoy all the delicacies without overeating. The 'Bhapa Illish' and 'Dab Chingri' were worth trying. Apart from 'Alu Dam', all the food were great. Located at the Elgin lane, behind Netaji Subhas Bose memorial. Parking may be a problem during weekends.

This old bastion of Bengali cuisine has unfortunately deteriorated immensely. The staff are unkempt and poorly versed in modern service standards. The food is oily and very average. The restaurant has not had a lick of paint since it opened 20 years ago and the toilets are filthy and smell awful. Not a pleasant experience at all for the money they charged.

This Bengal cuisine has unfortunately deteriorating it's taste in most unauthentic manner in blend and fabric of taste. The staff are unkempt and poorly efficient with the modern standard of service. No warm water is provided when asked for, for drinking. The food was not orderly served. No chicken or mutton was served. The fish and Dal with rice served in most unsavoury and cold. The inefficient staff decline to serve with sweet dish. This clear cut cheating in the name of authentic Bengali food. The reprehensible attitude of the staff and the food put us in thr most awkward situation. I will call it pathetic and bad day for us. This is incident of last Saturday afternoon i.e 25.11.2023, i was with group of 35 to 40 members hosted by the couple through event management company.
