What an absolute unique experience! 😊🙃😃 Rotorua Rail Cruising is the only self drive electrical and diesel railway carts in the world 🌍 You just need to release the brakes and away you go at 20km/h Groups of Rail Cars spaced well apart, travel 10km together in one direction from Mamaku Railway Station to Tarukenga Railway Station, where it is turned around for the journey back 🛤 The scenery of native bush and birds is just incredible! At some point you can see all the way to the Rotorua Lake 🏞 It gets quite cold in the denser wooded areas, but they do provide blankets 🥶 It was really a great way to see parts of Rotorua. The people are incredibly friendly, and it was a very comfortable ride 😊 Before the trip there is a bit of an induction and safety video over hot drinks ☕

Very enjoyable experience, it's like having your own private train to ride in with commentary provided. Highly recommend it.

I enjoyed it because I love the sound of trains and getting lost in the scenery. It's a strait line from one station to another and goes 30 mins one way with a stop off while you wait for the other rail carts. (15-20 mins) Then you head back. History of the line and surrounding area is played in the cart. Staff were awesome. You need to book first, which you can do via their website.

Great experience, especially the audio interpretation as you are travelling. There were children there on the day I travelled and they had a wonderful time.

Rotorua Rail Cruising is a unique family friendly experience. Groups of Rail Cars travel 10km together in one direction from Mamaku Railway Station to Tarukenga Railway Station, where it is turned around for the journey back . The staff provided detailed instructions on how to operate the handbrake and the rest of the time, you just sit back and relax

Very good and senic experience traveling the length of the railway. The staff were helpful in explaining the Rail cars worked and the safety aspects.

Great self guided tour with the rail train! But it does get boring overtime for the kids and adults as it's 1.5 hrs.

Nice bush trip. Scenery is more bush . Nice way to spend a couple of hours. History was interesting.

A nice wee ride along the tracks that were restored with a lot of hard work by the owners with friends and family. Four people per car, which is a self driven operation with a handbrake. Nice enough scenery along the way. About a 15 minute break at the turn around point. The cars have side panels that can fold down if it rains. Good friendly staff.

A nice scenic cruise. The rail cars only go about 20kmh and are automatic/self driving, so if you're looking for an involved or exhilarating experience, this isn't it. But if you're looking for a relaxing activity with a nice view where you sit back and watch, this is worth doing.
