Alleppey is famous for its backwaters cruises. There are various places from which the backwaters cruise starts. Also there is large variety of times of cruises and types of boats including houseboats. We wanted to do a 1 hour cruise and were not keen on large boats nor with meals on board. We wanted something exclusive and take us off the beaten path. Our cruise was organised by Mahindra Resort Arrokooty where we were staying. It was a one hour cruise on a small motarised boat in a narrow backwater alley. We were five adults and the small boat could easily fit aroung 10 giving us enough space to move around. We were wearing life jackets for safety. It was a marvelous experience as were were surrounded by greens and the alleys were truly secluded with ours being the only boat. The waters too were filled with fallen leaves and weeds and at many places you just could not see the water and at times wonder where the boat would head. On the way we passed many small hutments and small villages which gave the cruise a rustic feel. The surroundings being so quiet made us experience the lovely sounds of birds as also wind blowing through the trees. The boatman stopped at one particular spot and offered us fresh coconuts. Best to do this cruise early mornings or late evenings. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and were glad we stayed away from the crowds.

Amazing journey into the backwaters. The place has good boats for travellers with food, restrooms and bed for night stay inside. The boatman doesn’t travel far into the sea, but sail along the edges of the backwaters. The food they prepare is mostly seafood which is very tasty made with coconut oil

We rented a houseboat for the day to explore the backwaters of Alleppey. The experience of the boat itself is something not to be missed, there was electricity, fan, bathroom etc. I though I might get motion sickness from the boat ride but I found my self enjoying the boat ride. The backwaters of Alleppey was a beautiful and calming experience. We even bought fresh fish along the way to have for lunch. If I were to visit again, I would definitely book a houseboat for an overnight stay.

The Venice of the East! Alleppey Backwaters should definitely be on your kerala list, specially if it’s a new experience for you. I recommend taking a shikara over a house boat though. You can also opt for the government ferry for a more affordable option. The shikara should cost you about 2.5k for 4 hrs. The vendors totally over quote their price so feel free to negotiate. You can also stop by at local dhabas by the backwaters for authentic Kerala food. Make sure to checkout paddy fields of kuttanad.

The wonder of India whose natural beauty will make you feel very amazed. The lication is unique in India because the only means of transport here is waterway and in order to move from one place to the other, people use boats. The water body is also gateway to locations like Kollam, Ernakulam and other nearby places. The water adjacent to city is not that much clean but moving away from city you will get clean water. The whole location witnesses the complete purity of Nature with cool breezes flowing all around. You can see different varieties of birds here busy in arranging their livelihood. There are paddy fields adjacent to it and the amazing fact is that the field is the only place in the world where harvesting is done below water level. The whole place is so charming that all your clicks will be perfect and will not require any filter.

The backwaters are spectacularly beautiful, especially in the early morning and around the sunset. It feels amazing to cruise on the boats through the dense water hyacinth and the thousands of pink water lilles, looking at the life around you - the lush green paddy fields, the small villages, people going about their daily lives, the many houseboats, the many birds, the occasional fish in the water, and the gentle cool breeze. Life is good here.

Tips for backpackers - Thank me later: Get the ferry, don't get the expensive tour boat. Its like 200 times less the price and it goes exactly through the same places!! Other than that, it's a must go place.

I recently spend my weekend with my loved ones I must say. If you planning to visit Kerala this place must be in your itinerary. Here you see the Beauty of river, Scenery and greenery during the 4 hrs or sikara ride you just fell in love with the place and views, The long coconut trees in both the sides gives you goosebumps like you are living the scenes like you always seen in movies. Niw about the service as i booked for whole night so they served three times food as per your choice veg/nonveg. In nonveg their fresh pamphlet fish fry is like a wonder. The food was really good and tasty. Add this place in your next trip. If you like my thoughts and experience. Share your love.

One must experience village life in Alleppey at least once in their lifetime. Exploring the narrow waterways in a small boat amidst the vast backwaters is incredibly beautiful. Booking a penthouse boathouse allows for witnessing stunning sunsets and enjoying delicious food. Spending an entire day in the boathouse is highly recommended for a fulfilling experience.

One of the best place to visit to enjoy the nature's beauty. One can take the boat ride here or even take house boat where you can stay for overnight between this beautiful scenario. The houseboats were available on houry basis as well. You can negotiate with them for the ride. But you will enjoy the beauty if you took ride and revolve at least one round of the backwaters.
