The deity here is conceptualised as Beeja Ganapathi🕉, the trunk twisted rightward and carries on its tip a lemon, the hands hold an axe, a rope, a horn and a laddu, cradling little Sree Krishna in his lap. The story goes that a deeply devout and saintly Brahmin brought the idol over here from an unidentified and unspecified pilgrim centre some where in the North, centuries back. The eight day long Thiruvutsavam is one of the main attractions of Malliyur temple and every year it concludes on the Vishu day with a colorful aarattu🙂...

Very famous Lord Ganesha Temple situated in Kottayam district. The Temple is in comparable in the conception of the presiding deity as Vaishnava Ganapathy, with a young Sree Krishna seated on the lap of Lord Ganesha. So many devotees are visiting here for removing obstacles in their life. 1000 kudam jalabhishekam, mukkutti pushpanjaly, Thadi nivedyam, ashta dravya Ganapathi homam etc are the main offerings for Ganapathi. We can book any offering through phone. Peaceful & neat atmosphere. We can experience a highly powerful Divine presence. Attractive, spacious & well maintained premises. We can see so many beautiful mural paintings here. Easily accessible through your own vehicle. Don't know about public transport. More than enough parking space available. Highly recommended for all Lord Ganesha lovers.

Pros: peaceful spiritual place. Cons: Very narrow road to reach this temple, and heavy vehicles running with the timber load. No auto stand or bus stop shelter around the temple compound.. nor there are any refreshments shops.

(Translated by Google) Malliyoor Sri Mahaganapati Temple --------------------------------- Malliyoor Mahaganapati Temple is a famous temple located in the Manjur Panchayath in Kottayam district, ruled by Vighneshwaran and Unnikannan. Although the deity is a rare concept of Lord Ganesha, the presence of Unnikannan listening to the story from the lap of Lord Ganesha sets the temple apart from the rest. Malliyoor was a temple of the locals long ago. It was later converted into a temple for pilgrims. Among them was a great Brahmin who was a Mahatapasvi and a sage. During his pilgrimage, he came across a rare concept of Lord Ganesha called Bijaganapati. The deity is enthroned with a pomegranate, laddu, ax and rope in the trunk of the Valampiri-shaped Bijaganapati. Vighneshwaran is located here .It was a time when the Malliyoor temple was in a state of disrepair. Even the eternal offering to the Lord had been dormant for some time. To such a home full of poverty and misery was born the great scholar, great, sage and epic Bhagavatahamsam Malliyoor Sankaran Namboothiri, the borderline son of Parameswaran Namboothiri and Aryan Antarjanam. He started studying Sanskrit at the age of fourteen. At this point he contracted the disease and it lasted for many years. Eventually, the healing process began with sunbathing. Yet it was not a permanent solution. His mother, Arya Antarjanam, prayed to Lord Krishna and brought him to Guruvayur for bhajan. In Guruvayur he met Brahmashree Padappana Namboothiri. Padappana Namboothiri, a great scholar and sage, recited Bhagavatam to him. The law says that if you get Bhagavad-gita, you should recite it daily. But Sankaran Namboodiri, who could not afford to buy a bhagavatam, got bhagavatam from an ammiyar. Sankaran Namboothiri, who had returned from Guruvayur with Bhagavatam, began to recite Bhagavatam daily in front of Vighneshwar. He was greatly disturbed by the leaking temple. In the meantime, his Bhagavad Gita and commentary began to gain popularity in many places. He recited Bhagavad-gita in many places. The daily recitation of Lord Krishna in worship began to change the deity of Vighneshwar in the temple. When the problem arose, he saw Unnikannan listening to the story while sitting on his lap in Ganapati's embrace. That is how I started seeing the image of Unnikannan sitting on Ganesha's lap. This was the answer given by Sankaran Namboothiri to the question as to why Ganapathy and Unnikannan came together. There is even devotion to the hymns to be sung and the flowers to be used in front of each temple. But he missed the first line. He recited the Bhagavad Gita in front of Lord Ganesha and worshiped Lord Ganesha. This is probably the reason for such a presence. It is with the blessings of Vighneshwaran and Unnikannan that the temple has grown to become the most famous temple in the world. The temple is dedicated to Goddess, Sastha, Antimahakalan and Upadevans. There are also snakes outside the temple walls. Bhagavad Gita is celebrated every year on the occasion of Vinayaka Chaturthi. The festival at the temple goes hand in hand with this. Ganapati Homa, Mukutti Puspanjali, Pazhamala, Udayasthamana Puja and Palpayasam are some of the important offerings. Beautiful temple of Malliyoor Maha Ganpathy on the way to Ettumanoor Sri Mahadeva temple. Though we were in hurry to complete 3 Shiva temple, how can we exclude Lord Ganesha the killer of obstacles? We spent sometime for the darshan and then successfully completed Ettumanoor Sri Mahadeva temple visit. Note, all temples close by 11 am here and so as a tourist, one has to be quick. Best thing about Kerala, they have strict rules and that is necessary to retain the culture! Kerala is indeed God's own country! Don't miss paying visit to Lord Vishnu , Lord Shiva and other dieties. Behind the temple is a huge premise where you should visit as well. Sharing the pictures

You have seen Ganesha in many kolams. Have you seen the kolam with Lord Krishna on Lord Vinayaka's lap! If not then come to Kottayam Malliyur Mahaganapati Temple in Kerala. Ancestors of Sankaran Namboothiri consecrated and worshipped the idol of Mahaganapati here. Later, the temple was under the care of families belonging to Aryapalli Manai and Vadakedam Manai. Over time, the family became poor and the worship stopped. Later, Sankaran Namboothiri, a member of this family, was devoted to Guruvayurappan. He sat in the shrine of Mahaganapati and read the Bhagavata daily describing the glories of Krishna. Bound by his devotion, Krishna appeared sitting on the lap of his son-in-law Mahaganapati. Then Mahaganapati too was delighted and embraced Krishna. Every year there is a music festival to entertain Lord Krishna during Makara Lamp season. Popular singers will participate in the event. There are shrines of Shasta, Maha Vishnu, Durga, Anthi Mahakavalan, Yakshi and Nagar in the prakaram. To get rid of the marriage ban, fruits garland worship takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Milk kheer is offered to Swami for the boon of having child. Those whose prayers have been fulfilled offer whatever they desire as offerings. Mukkutri pushpanjali is offered to get rid of planetary dosha. They pluck the roots of 108 Mukkutri herbs and recite the Moolamantra of Lord Ganesha while worshipping. Reservations are essential as this worship is performed only five times a day.

Today thousand of devotees flock to the feet of Vasihnava Ganapthy at Malliyoor seeking eternal salvation form the bonds of Karama and solace from the evils of Kaliyuga. The Malliyoor Maha Ganapathy Temple is believed to have come into existence much before the Perumals exercised their sway over the southern peninsula. The pre-Perumal historical records have many references to the importance of this place of worship. The deity here is conceptualised as Beeja Ganapathi, the trunk twisted rightward and carries on its tip a lemon, the hands hold an axe, a rope, a horn and a laddu, cradling little Sree Krishna in his lap. The Vaishnava spirit permeates the entire atmosphere. The story goes that a deeply devout and saintly Brahmin brought the idol over here from an unidentified and unspecified pilgrim centre some where in the North, centuries back. The family-deities Anthimahakalan and Yakshi worshipped by the once-powerful administrators of the temple also find a place inside the temple complex. The temple is jointly administrated by two families, the Aryappally mana and Vadakkedam Mana. In course of time the two families were merged to Malliyoor and the Temple when went through a period of misfortune and penury, the Malliyoor family bearing a brunt of it. But they worshipped Lord Ganapathy with unwavering devotion even when the temple was without a root over the sanctum sanctorum and the family having a hand to mouth extensive.

Amazing experience! The main deity here is Lord Ganesa. But there is a twist. On the lap of Lord Ganesa, sits the mischievous little Lord Krishna! This is one one of the rarest temple in world where Lord Sree Krishna in considered sitting as a small child in the lap of lord Ganesha, who is incarnated as the omnipotent lord Parabhrama. This place is also so divine due to peculiar features of the place and architecture of the temple.

A very cute temple and the atmosphere is very nice. Usually very busy during Sabarimala season and at that time people halt here at night and for that facilities are also available like rest rooms etc.
