A place to checkout while in Portland! This place is very interactive and interesting. A family-friendly place with a lot of activities and attractions for all ages. A personal favourite while visiting OMSI was the Nelson Mandela exhibit. It was well-presented and outlines his early life until post-presidency. It was a great visit!

Super fun place for kids! Very informational and easy to understand exhibits for children. I went here as a solo adult and honestly there wasn't a lot geared for adults unless the special exhibit is something you're interested in. There is also a planetarium that shows a few different programs. Not sure I would come back here again to be honest. It was smaller than I expected and many of the exhibits that weren't 100% kid-focused were not very detailed or extensive.

Our trip to OMSI was pretty awesome! We were sad to see that the exhibit hall wasn't open. I guess that's my bad for not looking it up. I was happy to see that all of the children interactive exhibits were open. My 6-year-old ADHD son had a blast! We spent 2 hours there and all of us felt we saw all we needed to see and had a great experience. Definitely fun for the whole family!

It is one the best museums in Oregon. It was fun to discover all the exhibitions and kids' playgrounds. There are some kid's puzzles that I could not solve as an adulte but I enjoyed them overall. I would love to be back soon

Absolutely enjoyed ourselves once again, this time got to take the niece and nephew. The 15 years of laika was absolutely amazing, I would love to go back to check this exhibit out again. The amount of interaction for the kids in the engineering station area is amazing. They had a blast. Spent about 5 hours here, and not a dull moment ever. The amount of knowledge they and we took with us is unforgettable. Best Saturday afternoon ever. Highly recommend, I plan on getting a membership, totally worth it. The gift shop is quite amazing as well. Found quite a few goodies in there as well.

Nice museum, the staff are really customer care oriented, the exhibits were spacious and not overcrowded. Lots of learning on all levels, one area is specifically geared towards children and I can see that the people in that area enjoying themselves. The planetarium was nice and comfortable, watch the Black Holes documentary. The submarine was great and informative, every question I had was answered with their Naval military experienced guides. I would definitely come back for another visit.

I visited this museum last year to see the Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes exhibit. I am a huge comic book geek, particularly Marvel comics, so this was so much fun to walk around and look at this exhibit. The displays were great and there was a lot of information to read on about the comic book art. I would love to visit this museum again one day to see other exhibits. I highly recommend visiting here whether you are a local or a tourist.

Omsi had always been one of my favorite places to take my little sister on raining days. The children’s play center has been recently remolded and is absolutely perfect. There are lots of interactive stations that involve water do I recommend bringing spare clothes. The exhibit are always amazing. The movie theater 🎭 is grand and great for both learning and fun films

This is always a great place to visit with kids especially during the rainy season. Always something new to see and interact with. The staff have always been nice and informative. Much has changed since the last time I was here and some stuff is the same, however it was all new to my youngest. The submarine tour is always fun.

Nice science museum. Our son loves the giant water tables. Took him for a Marvel exhibit which was really cool. The planetarium also has a good mix of shows for all people.

Pretty fun exhibits. Loved the puzzles part, and sadly one of two of them had missing pieces. Googled for an answer to the rope with rings, but all good. And the submarine tour was nice! Simple walk through but with explanations from the staff with less history. The Orca exhibition was pretty well crafted too, and the foetal exhibits were amazing.

We went to OMSI once with our young son after the vaccine was finally available for kids his age and oh my goodness, he had such a blast. Our first trip there was a special exhibit on the ocean and some stuff from James Cameron. This time, there's a special 2 floor experience on Marvel, the history of comic books and all the super heroes in their stories. Our son is going through a Thor phase and he had such a blast. Seeing the wonder and excitement in the eyes of your child is one of the most rewarding things as a parent. If you have kids that are interested in science at all or for the next month or so, interested in Marvel or any of it's heroes, i cannot recommend this enough! There's also a dome theatre in the planetarium, interactive exhibits on music, earthquakes, water and air in a safe and child friendly atmosphere. If you live in Portland or a surrounding community and you have young children, this should be on your list of things to do!

(Story from August 10, 2021) Not gonna lie, this place was actually really good. The so called “Dinosaurs Revealed” exhibit was well done. Other exhibits like the Natural Sciences Exhibit (which had stuff like recycling, the earth in scale, even pregnancy) are also good. Sadly the Turbine Hall was closed on our trip and also the main entrance had to be remodeled too, so we had to use the planetarium exit to enter. But with the bad qualities out of the window, this is a must-do for families. This review will be updated sometime in the near future. (UPDATE!) I went to OMSI on November 2021 and the Turbine Hall was backup, which I thought was amazing part of OMSI. The main exhibit was replaced by “Mandela: The Official Exhibition.” As I am posting this update, this will be the final week it operates. The main entrance was also back up the time we went. There’s also a LAIKA exhibit by the Empirical Theater I went to in which I don’t know if it’s gone or not. (Second Update) Although I did not visit, the main exhibit was replaced by a Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit.

We got there around 2pm Saturday, it was very very crowded, with a movie event going on. Paid for parking. Lots to show the kids but couldn't really do much due to others using and looking at each thing there was at each station. Tickets sold out fast for the submarine. The kids were amazed by the animal and critter exhibits, a good amount of species to see. Grabbed a coffee from the cafe wasn't too bad, the photo booth did not work. Overall we felt rushed with not many choices to do while we waited for our turn to experience anything. As it got closer to closing time we did manage to experience more. We will be going again just maybe earlier in the day and maybe a week day.

This is one of our favorite places to go on weekends. The membership is totally worth it. Just for the kids play area alone. But they also change big exhibit pretty regularly. They also have a live sloth right now! The laser shows are also so much fun, one of these days I will get tickets for the Taylor Swift one...

OMSI was absolutely amazing!! The Di Vinci exhibit was amazing!! So well put together. Informative. I strongly suggest giving it a go if you are able to! Plus, they had a James Cameron exhibit there. And that was amazing as well. An added bonus considering we didn't even know it was there. $21 an adult for museum admission & the exhibit cost. Not bad for a day of fun! Plus all their other little science stuff, brain teasers, geodes, earth lab and fossil space. We did attend the theater or planetarium this time, but those were available as well. No cafeteria available but no biggie at all, they had a little cafe type spot for drinks and some snacks. WELL worth it. Friendly staff and volunteers as well. Definitely be back!

This museum has lots of fun games for kids (which I find very interesting and fun to try). There was an exhibit of babies from 1-32 weeks in the mother’s womb that was spectacular and informative. Highly recommended place to visit in Portland!

Thoroughly enjoyed the Studio Ghibli film festival at OMSI. It was pretty cool seeing a large turnout to enjoy the film together and I hope OMSI continues doing things like this! After the movie, I got to enjoy the other parts of the museum and saw a real live sloth in the exhibit. The walking trail next to the waterfront is also wonderful and wish I could have spent more time there. It has a great view of the river and bridges.

This was our first time at OMSI, but it won't be our last. The exhibits were varied and incredibly well done. Guaranteed to provide a great experience for everyone. The facility is very clean. All staff members are very helpful and willing to answer any questions. I understand the exhibits change so I look forward to seeing what is in store for us on our next Portland trip. Highly recommend!

Two thumbs up!👍👍You are going to absolutely love OMSI. Our favorite visits so far have been Marvel Superhero’s, Dinosaurs Revealed and the submarine tour❤️. Definitely worth getting a membership to save money. Or if you’re just in town for a short trip it’s worth taking your kiddos for a visit. Check the website for the latest exhibits and be prepared to go and have a great time. Helpful tips: Extra fee for parking, tickets can be purchased in advance online and membership available. They also have a Cafe, movie theater and gift shop available. Check out our video on YouTube to see our full experience at the Marvel Superheroes exhibit. This place was packed. They have a toddler/kids area with a hands-on place. It was a bit overwhelming with the number of people there. The line for entry is extra long especially if you didn't buy your ticket online. Good luck getting anyone on the phone. Parking is right next door. You will also need a parking ticket ($5) available online for purchase. Definitely recommend buying tickets in advance and arriving early. We went to visit the marvel display and it did not disappoint. The entire family enjoyed the memorabilia of comic book history. There is also a movie theatre, gift shop, and cafe. The cafe is really just a glorified snack bar. We opted to grab food elsewhere afterward. We spent about an hour or so exploring. If you and your kiddos don't mind a busy crowd stops by on the weekend. If you want a mellow experience, give it a try on the weekday.

Definitely one of my favorite spots in the downtown Portland area. It's a fun and interactive museum with some good stable exhibits as well as rotating featured exhibits. Their Marvel exhibit was super exciting with a lot of cool things to see, such as props from the movies themselves. It's a great place for both locals and tourists, as well as for people of all ages to visit, though the kids can get rather annoying and in your personal space. It's an awesome place to explore with your partner for a date night. Entrance tickets are reasonably priced, though the merchandise and gift shop stuff is expectedly pricey.

Very nice museum with various activities and exhibits for families! The museum is smaller than I thought and you can go around and see everything for a day. They have a Marvel exhibit! They also have a movie theater but the movies being shown are selective and not necessarily the movies that come out from a regular theater. There are tons of activities for kids and some of them are also appropriate for adults. They also have a submarine outside the museum and the tickets for a tour are sold separately. The staff are very helpful and friendly! Overall a very good museum and weekend getaway for families!

I've always thought OMSI was pretty cool, but now that I'm a parent with a 2-year-old, this place is a godsend. My family bought an annual membership on Black Friday and we've never looked back. We take our daughter here at least twice a month and it's a fantastic, safe, and intellectually stimulating indoor activity for us to do together. The kids area (which I didn't even realize existed three years ago) is incredible and is our daughter's favorite place to be the city. Thank you OMSI for being great. P.S. Please stop carrying dinosaur toys in the gift shop because my daughter wants to bring every single dino toy home with her. ;-)

Terrible waste of money. Oregon museum of science and industry is not a museum, and its not about science or industry. This is a poorly designed space for toddlers. The chemistry lab was closed. The paleontology lab was closed. The physics lab was closed. The simulation machine was out of order. Most of the buttons on the displays didn’t work. It was a very cool building with NOTHING to do. It was crazy how big of a waste this place was.

A nice rainy day activity. The submarine was the highlight for me. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. The museum is hours of fun for children but as an adult you can breeze through in about an hour. The museum location is beautiful along the river with the city's backdrop.

We didn’t have enough time to see everything, most of our time was spent at the Orcas special exhibit and the Empirical Theater. The Orcas exhibit was very interesting and had depth of information. I imagine if the museum is very busy, you might not get to interact as much as we were able to do. Really enjoyed this fantastic exhibit, watching the dive patterns on a specific whale, reading about the family system and life cycle for example. The Natural science area does seem much more geared towards hands on for children, although the 360 globe had a number of different cycles of information, temperature changes through the year and migration patterns of sea turtles to name two. We didn’t get a chance to see much more, as we paid to see a movie in the Empirical Theater. We watched The Arctic: Our Last Great Wilderness. Beautiful photography and videography, so much information about the Arctic animals. The theater has fantastic view and audio. It was an extra cost, but seemed well worth it for the movie. Would absolutely go back for future exhibits and movies. Not just for kids.

Nice quick museum, but the main exhibit hall was closed so admission really only got access to a biology exhibit - which was neat - an industry wing almost entirely devoted to kids activities, and a fairly barebones space exhibit (planetarium shows cost extra). The submarine tour felt a tad rushed and tickets sell out quickly.

  • 4/5 Mikey 8 months ago on Google
It was very fun to go in but just I wish there was a little more to do with just the basic ticket, I feel like if I was able to go to the submarine or go outside (it was a rainy day) it would’ve been better. Overall fun and even better if you have kids

First time to visit this museum. My daughter liked it very much. It has many kids friendly spots for them. Many things to learn in different topics. They offer a real submarine tour and a planetarium theater for extra fees. Avoid weekends for crowds.

Travelled all the way from TEXAS just to see the ORCA exhibit. It was very educational and loved the displays of the artificial whale. Shows how big they really are and how important they are for our ecosystems

  • 5/5 Brandon E. 2 years ago on Google
Took the kids, 4 and 18 months, for their first trip here and it was great! We spent over 2 hours just in the 0-6 area upstairs! The staff were all extremely friendly and personable! Everywhere was clean and well kept. Cannot wait to go back and explore more!

  • 5/5 R. U. 2 years ago on Google
Expensive, but there is so much to do and see, you will never experience it all in one day. The USS Blueback tour is awesome. The kids love all the interactive displays.

  • 5/5 Julia H. 1 year ago on Google
Always love a good science chat. OMSI has incredible exhibits and fun, hands-on activities for kids and adults. This time was about the reproductive system (fitting, considering the recent verdict) and about Titanic. So interesting! There was also a Da Vinci segment which is also incredible.

  • 5/5 Abigail B. 2 years ago on Google
Always a great place to go as a fabulous or a parent-kid time together, just one-on-one.

  • 5/5 Sean R. 9 months ago on Google
Very awesome spot for kids of all ages, could easily spend many hours here or repeated visits, barring my own energy. Has a great atmosphere where it feels safe for the kids to do whatever they please in the given room or space.

After hearing so many amazing things about OMSI it was smaller than I imagined. Lots of activities for the kids in the science area, but didn’t keep them occupied long. It was a Sunday so it was very busy and only 2$ a ticket. They had a marvel exhibit but didn’t want to pay extra for the kids who were not interested. For the price on Sunday it was fun for about 2 hours. They have other exhibits that cost extra. Nice size gift shop and food area although we didn’t take advantage of that.

  • 5/5 Shylia M. 1 year ago on Google
So awesome!!! We traveled from WA to check out OMSI. Three kids ages 10m, 2.5yrs and 7.5yrs. OMSI had something for all of us to enjoy, we were there right at open and stayed until 1pm. We weren't overwhelmed by the time we left and are planning on going back soon for the next featured exhibit and films. Highly recommend checking it out. Even if you don't have kids there was plenty for adults to enjoy (I mean who doesn't like building things and having a simulated earthquake knock it over?)

  • 4/5 Jacob D. 10 months ago on Google
Always have a great time. Have been going here since I was a kid and being abel to see all the new exhibits that come through is a great learning experience.

  • 5/5 Susan K. 1 year ago on Google
There's exhibits and hands-on fun for everyone at this museum! My partner and I went to see the new Marvel exhibit and have to pass on the glowing reviews to other fans of the comics and movies! We could not stop saying "oh my," at every artifact we walked up to. We also enjoyed a show in the planetarium and had the BEST submarine tour. It was a first for myself, but my partner agrees that the guide was absolutely amazing and full of great information! I almost knocked a star off for this visit though, as many other exhibits were closed or out of order for the day, which was something we really looked forward to checking out... Guess that just means we'll have to come back again! 😃

  • 3/5 Krysten S. 10 months ago on Google
I expected more especially for the price. It felt like they tried to make sure there were multiples of one thing which is great for schools but not so much for families. You have to pay for some experiences separately which can add up. I was not impressed with the orca exhibit and was sad to find out that we had just missed the marvel exhibit by a couple of months. The one awesome thing was the submarine tour! Knowledgeable and open to all questions. It was a great experience And the only thing that was really worth seeing.

  • 4/5 Brook F. 1 year ago on Google
We thought there'd be more hands-on experiences and things to do. And there wasn't enough employees to guide u through or to teach you anything. It was more of a DIY tour. It was very educational though (if u wanna stop and read everything). Very small and overpriced food/drink selection. My son said he'd wanna ho back and he had fun, so that's all that mattered.

  • 5/5 Savannah S. 1 year ago on Google
Very cool experience! We went on a Saturday so obviously there were a ton of people, but we expected that. The Marvel exhibit was awesome, highly encourage people to check that out, even if you aren't a big fan! All in all good experience.

  • 4/5 Ron D. 1 year ago on Google
My teenage son and I visited today. The science area is great especially for younger children. We of course enjoyed the Marvel exhibit. The food options (pictured)for the movie theater are an upgrade over other museums and movie theaters.
