Loved my 1st visit. Love the concept of this place and the story! Love supporting local, small businesses and startups from other cultures. Love that the coffee is Organic and the bread is Gluten Free! I only took one star off because, my experiences weren't consistent. It will be nice to have a consistent experience with food and service every time. My 1st visit Madison was so welcoming and helpful. The Iced Mocha was incredible, coffee was so smooth, couldn't get enough. Second visit didn't feel very welcome, rather like I was an intrusion very disappointing. 🙁 Tried the Kibe, I know the way Kibbeh is made and the taste, didn't love this version, sorry. The Brazilian cream cheese sandwich-bread was soft, warm, delicious, melt in your mouth, except there wasn't much cream cheese. The Flan- incredibly smooth and delicious, one of the best. Third visit (all 3 visits were within about 10 days) came back for that delicious Iced Mocha, sadly not so delicious this time. The color was much darker, the taste wasn't smooth, rather more bitter. Not sure what happened since I requested same person make it. Also, got the Flan, which wasn't as good this time. Less smooth and creamy, more firm, and tasted eggy. Maybe it was older and first time I got a fresh batch. Definitely recommend you stop by one of Kitanda's locations and try the coffees and bread. They also sell some specialty grocery items, such as their bread ready for you to bake at home. Great Green Lake Location with free garage parking in the PCC garage. Very walkable area with the PCC, Bartell, other shops, restaurants, library, and of course, the Lake just a couple blocks away! Bus stops across street and nearby as well.

I'm always on the lookout for places that have good açaí bowls, and the açaí bowls here were better than I expected. I literally just sat down at a random table waiting for my friends when I saw a sign on the windows of Kitanda and it had a picture of an açaí bowl, and so I decided to check it out while I waited. I never even knew this place existed until today. (August of 2020) I got a normal açaí bowl with strawberries, granola, and cacao nibs. I was pretty disappointed in the size and amount of the strawberries. I was really wishing for more strawberries and they were quite small too so there wasn't much fresh components. The granola and cacao nibs did add a nice crunch and the cacao added a slight richness. The açaí itself was pretty good, not too sweet, and it was fresh and refreshing. Overall, pretty solid place. I really didn't expect it to be as good as it was. Slightly on the expensive side, but I would definetly get an açaí bowl again!

If you are expecting a solid SoCal Acai bowl, don’t get your hopes too high. The bowel tasted great, but it was only filled 1/3 with Acai, had 8 pieces of banana, 3 small strawberry’s and a sprinkling of granola and honey. Was it delicious? Absolutely? Did the $9 price match the amount given? I don’t think so.

This place is full of delicious and surprisingly healthy Brazilian food items. If you are trying to cut out sugar and dairy or just want a taste of Brazilian cuisine this place is 👍. Also the service is nice and the place is very neat and clean.

I’m really torn leaving this review bc the food and the overall atmosphere is really nice. But good lord- the Cuban Espresso made my ancestors roll over in their graves. I get that businesses like to put a little spin and razzle dazzle on foreign things- but putting a piece of cinnamon stick in Cuban coffee oughta be illegal. You guys, please, it’s so bad. Every cell in my body rejected that- I’ve never in my life had such a bad espresso. I would hate someone to try the Cuban espresso and think that’s actually what they taste like. It ruined my whole day. Had to call my mom about it - all my aunties wondering where the heck this awful idea came from. Pls Cuban espresso is simple. Straight black coffee, the first little bit of coffee gets stirred up with 2-3 little spoons of regular sugar- there’s your sugar foam. Pour it back into the coffee. Pls fix this, man. Pls. That’s like someone in Cuba adding a cinnamon stick to a hot dog. Could you imagine? Otherwise it’s a great place and I’m sorry - I just, I’ll lose my Cuban card if I don’t speak up on this.

I really enjoyed the açaí bowl. I have tried açaí bowls in many places, and my favorite things about this one were: 1) the proportions of everything in it were just right— a good mix, and 2) the bowl itself is tall and not completely full, such that one can mix all the ingredients. (Some places have it overflowing which results in having to eat the toppings first and the açaí at the end; this was not the case here, and I appreciated being able to mix and eat a bit of everything at the same time.) The downside to this place is that there are often dirty tables when I’m there, and also sometimes they close the back area such that clean seating options are more limited.

This was my first time in. I was in the area and wanted and coffee and something to eat. The coffee was good, and looks like they had a ton of food - mostly bread and buns with filling. So I decided to try the ham & cheese bun which was okay… kind of like a huge pizza pocket. I wasn’t expecting it to have a filling like that, I thought it would be more like a sandwich inside with more ingredients. However I would like to go back and try their other food options!!

The fruits in my Frutas bowl were not fresh but either defrosted from the freezer or dried (with the exception of the banana). I prefer fresh fruits so I won't be ordering it again. I'm also concerned about the amount of added sugar in one bowl's serving of açaí. I doubt this meal should be considered healthy overall. This is a comment less about Kitanda and more about the standard American preparation and consumption of this ingredient. Good interior space, though! I haven't tried the coffee or other things from the menu, but the appeal of coming back to work or study from the café is there.

Great place for a tasty açaí bowl and a warm beverage. The barista mistook my order for tea and gave me a bread instead, which turned out to be an excellent mistake because it was very tasty.

Love all the gluten-free options! We order ahead so we can make sure there are enough mini cheese breads on hand. The Fruitas Acai bowl is our go-to.

Oh my gosh!! It was my first time being in this coffee shop. I really enjoyed the creamy mocha shake. I also got the Frutos açai bowl. I added the peanut butter and I said no bananas. I added the Brazil nuts. I also added the coconut chips. I also added The cacao nibs. That was so yummy and delicious. Highly highly recommend to anybody looking for açai bowls and the coffee drinks. This place really deserves 5000 stars!!!!! I’m looking forward to try their new desserts including the passion fruit mousse.

Definitely a Kitanda Lover. This location is great, there’s a parking lot just beneath it, and there are plenty of tables. Worked there for 2 hours pretty smoothly.

Terrible service. You should not be on delivery apps if you cannot get a single order right. I’m tired of wasting money on this place for them to forget half my order. How hard is it to read a receipt?

The people were super helpful. The coffee was actually the worst I’ve ever had, even as someone who enjoys the nastiest wait room complimentary coffee. I literally had to throw it away. The carrot cake tastes like a soft corn bread.

Love this place, only one thing I didn’t like. I do have to say, the passion fruit mousse is disgusting. Looks like they used passion fruit juice mixed with condensed milk. It’s extremely sweet and doesn’t taste anything like what I grew up eating. Clearly an inexperienced person made this. Everything else is great and on point.

Been here dozens of times- tasty food and drink, but the service is VERY slow. I'm talking about regularly waiting 15-20 minutes for a single latte on a weekday....when there isn't a line. I'm stumped as to why. One guess is prioritizing to-go orders and UberEATS over in-person? Honestly you can go down the block to Revolutions, get a coffee from a line with 10 people, and walk back to Kitanda faster than ordering a coffee and being the only person in the store. Or mobile order from Starbucks. I hope this can improve - it's making me stop coming here!

I love the employees. They’re super cute and friendly. I would go just for the drinks and açaí bowl. They have cheap small bits but the drinks and worth a visit. I like their Brazilian coffee options and the energy drinks are fruits and delicious. I would recommend trying a Brazilian style drink.

Their cheese bread is exactly what I always ate in Hong Kong(we call it “cheese mochi balls”) and this sandwich style is new for me. The cheese bread was fine but egg was dry. They serve 20oz coffee and it was still hot after 15 minutes driving delivery. My mocha was not bad (a bit sweet n I prefer stronger coffee taste). Anyway it is good to try Kitanda at least once.
