Unbelievable experience and a very spectacular sight. Moni Agiou Ioannou Prodromou is a monastery glued against the canyan walls of the Loussios gorge. The monastery dates from the 12th century. It is one of the most spectacular sites along the Loussios gorge.

The monastery was a 15-minute walk from the parking lot through a beautiful woodland path. No shorts / short skirts are allowed to enter the monastery, however clean, spare fabrics are provided for that purpose. The monastery is built on the cliff wall and we visited the interior - the view was amazing! The monks were very friendly and offered us fresh Greek coffee, water and a dessert called loukoumia - true representatives of Greek hospitality! We bought some handmade soap to support them, such a lovely visit. :)

Well worth the visit. Fantastic drive there and a wonder to behold when you first set your eyes on the @monestry. Respect to the monks dedication and duty.

Very nice Monastery and very friendly monks. There is an option for a beautiful hike to the Filosofou Moni which takes 45 minutes, half of the way is going down to the river and the second half is climbing to the Moni, which was not easy to our kids. The path is beautiful especially near the Lucius river, most of the path is shaded but hard walking.

This place was quite breathtaking! There is a.long walk from where you park your car, you should wear the sports shoes or hiking shoes as there rocks and slippery ground. During the summer months the use of a hat is also a good idea.

A really impressive monastery hanging from the cliff...a 10-15 minute walk from the car parking, closes at 13:00.

Out of all the monestries in Greece, this is a must visit!! Very authentic. The buildings are still very old. It also provides a nice view over the gorge.

Absolutely worth if you look for vernacular and picturesque architecture in a dramatic landscape. You can visit the interior guided by the monks. PS: Bad access road

This place is beautiful; it is worth travelling to its meandering roads; the walk from the car park takes around 15-20 minutes. Please wear good walking shoes as you will be walking on a rough surface. There is also a dress code if you want to enter the monastery premises; no shorts for men and no trousers for the ladies.

A very hard walk to reach the Monastery, but totally worth it. The Monks are very polite, the view impressive, and the frescoes amazing

Challenging road down to the parking but it’s worth the drive. Small 15min hike down and up to the monestary. We had two donkeys guarding the path which added to the experience. At the monestary the resident monks were very welcoming. Such a cool experience.

Fascinating monastery. Approach on foot from Filosofou monastery via the gorge. Friendly monks (all 8).

Windy, wiggly road to get down to the parking lot. Once down an easy 30min hike on a wide path with lots of stairs. Beautiful monastery and church. We went when it was closed but is was still worth the hike to see the surrounding beauty and unique buildings.

We did the walk between the 2 (3)monasteries, beautiful! Allow 4hrs if you want to enjoy them and walk back along the same route. The monastery is really interesting and the monks very welcoming

On December 3, 2023, when coming from the direction of Megalopolis there was extensive damage to the road about 2km from the monastery, and I was hesitant to cross it with my rental car. What I did was turning back and park my car near the Polygheni stone bridge. From there it is a beautiful 2km hike up the Lousuios gorge to the monastery. The monastery, hanging on the gorge cliff, is a gem and must see.
