Museum of Applied Arts is one of the major tourist attractions in Tashkent. It is a small yet interesting museum with historical applied artworks. The interior specially the walls are skilfully painted with eye catching views. There is a gift shop as well at the back with amazing handcrafted clothes and many interesting souveniers. Highly recommended for all the tourists visiting Tashkent.

The museum is in an unassuming building and cost 25k Soms each to go in. We actually spent a couple of hours inside looking at the exhibitions on silk making, musical instruments, jewelry, embroidery and other similar crafts. Every exhibit had an English description which was really useful. It was interesting to see the transition, maybe 50 years ago, from hand woven and embroidered items to machine made and also the change from natural to artificial dyes. Once we'd finished we sat in the courtyard cafe and had a coffee and Deb bought a couple of bits in the little shop.

Beautiful museum but only evident on the inside. The place also hard to locate as road signage not prominent. A lot of details confronting us when we stepped in. There are also a lot of exhibits displayed with more respect. It would b easier to take Yandex taxi to get there.

An old tsarist Russian diplomat's house that has been gifted to the city of Tashkent. Its a small museum now displaying historical arts & crafts. Not much for a museum to be honest but its the architecture of one of front patio and receiving hall that's worth viewing.

This is a small museum worth visiting if you're in Tashkent and pressed for time. You can cover the museum in an hour. Features Uzbek arts and culture--prints, embroidery, musical instruments, carpets. Entrance is 25,000 som

the museum of applied arts in tashkent is in an old house from the czar's times. it is decorated in that impossible style of the russian empire, precious woods bridled with lapis blues, orpiment oranges, and gold foil... inside lies a collection of marvels, carpets brought from every corner of asia, sculptures from the near east, swords forged in persia, and fabrics weaves in china.... a little trove of treasures ig: @minusoneovertwelve

Nice little museum showcasing various uzbeki crafts. Most pieces are from the 80s but you can't really blame them as the Russians liked to take the good stuff back to the hermitage...

Small museum but really beautiful to take a look at the architecture of the building and inside has some traditional textiles, parquetry, miniature paintings, and musical instruments.

It's just an amazing place. You will learn much about the history of Uzbek applied art by getting an incredible buzz from the works themselves. There are no outrageous attractions here, just mesmerizing architecture and a cool store with national paraphernalia inside.

A museum housed in the former Russian diplomat’s residence. It’s small but packed with artifacts from fabrics to traditional instruments. Really love the chess set with artwork. Audio guidance via an web app was helpful. If you have an extra time in Tashkent, I recommend :)

It’s will be nice if the staff inside the museum could speak English as it’s a universal language for tourists to understand. I felt I was left alone not knowing about the history about the artifacts. Though I managed to read every description about the artifacts.

They really need to change the name of this place. I was put off a little bit with the industrial sound, but it's really a remarkable museum. On the smaller side, but it had plenty of examples of uzbeki arts and crafts that were lovely as they were fascinating.

A must-see in Tashkent! Beautiful museum where you can appreciate and learn about Uzbek crafts. I enjoyed sitting and relaxing in the inner courtyard, in a very peaceful atmosphere. Entrance is 25.000 SUM.

Loved this small museum. Wonderful selection of textiles, miniature painting, jewellery, ceramics, wood carving and metal work. Also carpets. The gift shop is vastly overpriced. There is a tiny cafe with a few options. Lovely walk from the metro through an old part of Tashkent with low buildings and trees.

This is a hidden treasure in Tashkent. The museum is compact. Entrance fee is 5,000 sum, but if you want to take a picture of exhibits, you should pay 10,000 sum more and staff give you a badge which allows to take a picture. Most exhibits are from Uzbeki artists and are made in 18~20th century. Exhibits include paints, carpets, clothes etc.

Nice place! It’s your chance to see all that beautiful tile work in close range. They also have a fantastic collection of textiles, carpets from all over Western Asia. Very pleasant staff. Wonderful building in an interesting neighborhood of Tashkent.

Highly recommend this gorgeous museum! The miniature paintings were my favorite (see photos). Tickets for foreigners are 25,000. Only takes 45 minutes to see everything in the museum comfortably.

  • 4/5 Tim T. 1 year ago on Google
Ticket foreigners - 25000 Lots of interesting items throughout the museum. Most of them are made with in the last 50 years. If you're looking for older artifacts this is probably not your place. We enjoyed seeing the national costumes and lots of the weaving work. You can scan the free Wi-Fi code on the wall to get connected. You can also scan the codes by the displays to learn more about them but we couldn't get it to work. The museum website came up but the pictures wouldn't show and no audio played. Worth an hour or two visit and it's in a pleasant neighborhood for a walk or a coffee nearby.

State Museum of Applied Arts of Uzbekistan is an art museum located in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, founded in 1937 as a temporary exhibition for handicrafts. The museum showcases over 4,000 exhibits on decorative art in Uzbekistan, including wood carving, ceramics, embossing, embroidery, and samples of mass production in local industry. It’s a must visit place for all the arts & crafts lovers. There are some unique showpieces which are very old suzanis, and seeing them lined up next to each other makes it very for interesting experience.

It was a beautiful small museum - they charge 25,000 soms to get in for some reason - no different price for Uzbek citizens. I went during a slow hour to see everything without it being crowded. What was the downside? Every employee in each room was following me around - it was so uncomfortable I felt like I was being rushed. When I wanted to go back one more time to the first room they told me no I have to exit - what the hell is up with that? I pay that much to go in and can’t look in peace? I felt like I was being treated as a shoplifter

What a shame to charge visitors 15 times more than locals and then brag about it! Prices are not stated anywhere, so cashier just named random number, apparently based on how much do you look like a tourist. Extremely rude staff at souvenir shop. Overall the museum is not worth a trip -it was good long time ago but now there are only a few exhibits, plenty of antique exhibits were replaced with poor modern replicas. Honestly you can see same stuff at any bazaar or just walking along the streets of Bukhara, for example.

You can view this small museum in 20-30 minutes. As a foreigner it cost me 23,000 som for admission. It's a great place to learn about Uzbek culture and the main room in particular is very beautiful. They also have many interesting textiles, ceramics, and paintings. Since the museum is so small, one downside is it gets very crowded when tourist groups come rushing in. Go early to beat the crowd!

(Translated by Google) Great museum! I highly recommend visiting! Entrance costs 21,000 soums. Here you can see all types of applied art in Uzbekistan: from embroidery Suzanne and carpets to metal coinage. And pay attention to the store in the courtyard - bathrobes from old (!) And new fabrics with the correct underlay, shawls, dishes, jewelry are sold here. Prices for bathrobes start at $ 80-100. Having toured another half of Uzbekistan, we realized that the best bathrobes were here)) (Original) Отличный музей!
