The entrance fee is 15.000 som for locals and 50.000 som for foreigners, with extra charge for photos, which is a pity. I've spend a little more than an hour to cover everything, and I could easily say that this is the best museum I've been to in Uzbekistan, but mostly because the others were really bad! The exhibition is somewhat basic, a lot of information is presented just in Uzbek, and in general it feels like someone was really trying, but didn't have the materials and the talent to make it nice. I would lower the ticket price twice and allow pictures for free to make it worth visiting.

One floor is dedicated to pre-history through until the end of communism. It is OK but a little dry. Not enough interesting exhibits and too much reading text. The other floor is dedicated to the current period since Uzbek independence. The propaganda here is too emphasised and detracts from the historical information.

This museum is in a large building, with the exhibits on the ground and first floors. It covers the history of the region from the stone age to the present day. There were some beautiful creations from the Persians and Bactrian Greeks as well as Bhuddist sculptures that were so prevalent in the area before the rise of Islam. There were sections on the massive contributions to science, medicine, architecture and culture that made this area critically important to world history. There was also a very large section showing how the country had improved since independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. This part was created by the Islam Karimov school of propaganda and was rather one sided!

Paid 50K and photo 60K total 11K but the Buddha sculpture is nor there displayed in Germany. 3rd floor is under reconstruction. They did not tell me anything and i just paid 110K to see stones and paintings. Check before you come to the museum. My main purpose to visit was to see the oldest Buddha sculpture. Very very disappointed

This museum might be only two levels, but it’s fantastic. Covers the country from pre-history through today and is a great introduction to the country if you’re starting your tour in Tashkent. It will leave you inspired and ready for the adventures you’re about to experience as you tour the rest of the country, or will be a great summary of your trip if you visit this museum on your way home. It’s wonderful that the museum has been able to retain so many ancient artefacts. The third floor is covered end-to-end in models of Uzbekistans many modern achievements, which I personally think are very cool.

Really poor museum. They charge foreigner extra but don’t provide all information in English. So, for what do you charge foreigner extra!? It was a waste of 50000 Sum and also of time. Even the toilets are really old and stink. Try to avoid this small museum if you are not fluent in Russian or Uzbek.

There are very few English language sources on Uzbekistan’s history, and this museum will be your go-to in order to learn about Uzbekistan. Its whole of Level 2 is dedicated to the (official) version of national history, tracing back to as early as prehistoric times and early settlement up till Independence. The artefacts on display speak amply to both the government’s effort to educate visitors and the very fact that, though little known to the outside world, Uzbekistan is rich in heritage and should be so proud of its national history. The country has really come a long way.

Nice to get a quick browse on the history of Turkestan, but the scarse English description and the paternalistic tone of some of the panels if improved could definitely rise the level of this important landmark in Tashkent. Nonetheless it was a good spot to refresh a bit after a scorching day of summer.

A good history museum. Quite a few interesting exhibits. It’s pretty small. The interesting part is the second floor. The third floor is history after independence. Very little explanation in English. A bit more in Russian. The toilets are AWFUL. It’s a disgrace. Everything is in dire need of renovation.

The State Museum of History of Uzbekistan, established in 1876, was one of the largest scientific-educational institutions. The museum has been included in the composition of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan since its foundation in 1943. As a multi-disciplinary establishment, the museum fulfills a number of roles. First, it serves as a scientific research institution. It is also the largest custodian of artifacts representing the material and spiritual cultural heritage of the country. Lastly, the museum serves as a center of dissemination of historical knowledge. The museum has more than 325,000 items collected over its existence of more than 140 years. Among these are many unique items or monuments of Uzbekistan. Unique museum exhibits include the remains of a primitive man from the Sel-Ungur Cave (1.5 million years B.C.); a stone sculpture of two snakes found on the territory of the Fergana Valley (2nd millennium B.C.); décor of the Bukhara governors’ palace from the 6th-8th centuries; fragments of a 7th– to 8th-century mural painting found in an Afrosiab settlement; a 10th-century carved wooden column from Oburdon village; and the “Triad,” an ancient statue of Buddha with two monks (1st-4th centuries B.C.), and other findings discovered in 1969 in the Fayaz-Tepa Buddhist temple complex. The museum also houses a stationary exhibition informing guests of the history of Uzbekistan since its ancient period. It shows the history of the Uzbek statehood, patriotism, and heroism and the creative activity of the Uzbek people from the new methodological positions to the wealth of national traditions. The exhibits of the museum are constantly demonstrated at international exhibitions, where the world community gets acquainted with them. In 2018, four memorandums of understanding were signed between the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan and four respective noteworthy organizations: the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago, the Shanghai Museum, the National Museum of Kazakhstan, and the Institute of History and Archeology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. With the support of the National Commission for UNESCO of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the State Museum of the History of Uzbekistan developed a mobile application on the Android platform through which visitors can download detailed information about the content of the museum using the installed wi-fi system.

The owner who is also one of the chefs visited our table and explained the menu to us in person. There was a problem with the beef teppanyaki and they offered us a free eel roll to compensate. We enjoyed the hospitality of this lively Japanese restaurant, we also highly recommend people to sit inside if you order teppanyaki so that the dishes won't get cold. By sitting inside we got to watch some cool tricks the teppanyaki chef was showing while preparing for our food. The sushi was not cheap but they are generous with the portion.

Workers are not that much kind. Why foreigners should pay 5 times more than local? Should we pay more to see local history? Make no sence at all.

Very nice museum, good starting point to understand Uzbekistan's history better. As with any museum in Uzbekistan, English explicative texts are limited. Something to be worked on in the future. 16000 soms for foreigners 5000 soms for residents.

(Translated by Google) A wonderful place, this museum covers almost the entire history of the Republic of Uzbekistan, to almost every exhibit there is a description in three languages, historically significant exhibits, beautiful interiors. Inexpensive entry - 2000 sum. This money is worth giving in order to enjoy the cozy atmosphere and learn a lot of interesting things about the development of our country. But, as mentioned above, not all exhibits have a description in three languages, namely: Russian, English, Uzbek. Some lack even Russian content, which makes perception difficult. Therefore, you have to resort to the help of a guide, which is what many foreign tourists use. Cons are minor, but they are. Negligent attitude to some exhibits. Creaking floors, which indicates the absence of cosmetic repairs. There is an interactive whiteboard, but it does not work, at least at the time of my visits it was turned off. All of the above, however, is not able to spoil the impression. So I strongly advise you to visit this museum (Original)

(Translated by Google) The exhibition was very fulfilling. The English commentary only gives an overview of the times, so those who are not familiar with Russian or Uzbek can enjoy it first after looking at the Central Asian History Wiki. I also had a special exhibition on the exchange between China (Tang) and Bukhara (Mr. Anne), but I laughed with no intention of promoting.

Well the last floor with the modern part of the country give you an optimism and idea of the country. However the other two floors of the previous historical periods they don't have enough English guidance labels and need immediately a complete update and renewal in order to be interesting. Go because you need to learn but don't expect so much

The museum covers from prehistoric to Soviet periods. A half of the exhibition focuses on the medieval period in which you can get a more elaborate perspective at the museum of Temurids. My experience could have been better if there were more translations. I was on google translate (Uzbek <> Eng) most of time. It is a nice place to visit when you have extra time to spare

The museum is located in a beautiful large building, but has a rather small exhibition inside. On one floor there is history from the Stone Age to “independence”, on the other there is a parade of modern achievements. The historical exhibition was compiled for the opening of the museum in this building in 1991 and has not changed over the past 33 years. Only they tried to remove the Russian language from the descriptions. The exhibition about modern history consists of boring newspaper photographs of handshakes of those in power and bravura texts in Uzbek and English. The museum work is simply zero, although there are some really interesting and beautiful artifacts on display. In the museum store there are no price tags for goods, and they also do not provide a receipt. I have great doubts that the 60 thousand I paid for the 120-page guide to the museum ended up entirely in the museum’s cash register, and did not partially migrate to the personal pocket of the saleswoman or her boss. In addition, I paid 50 thousand for entry, because I am not a citizen, although my grandfather was a professor at Tashkent State University (35 years old), and my grandmother taught at school (40 years old). Thank you. There was a beautiful mirror in the toilet, but there were only three stalls, one of which was closed, and the others did not have latches. In addition, there was a toilet stench in the room. In short, overall the museum did not inspire me to study history and did not add optimism about the future of this country. People here have no respect for their past or their visitors. The purpose of the museum is propaganda and profit. Sadly.

Turkiston oʻlkashunoslik muzeyining badiiy boʻlimidan va boshqalar muzeylarning fondlaridan, shaxsiy toʻplamlardan sanʼat asarlari keltirilib boyitilgan (V.L. Borovikovskiy, K. P. Bryullov, V. A. Tropinin, I.M.Nikitin, O.A.Kiprenskiy, I.K.Ayvazovskiy, S.V.Ivanov, I.N. Kramskoy, N.N.Ge, A.K. Savrasov, I. I.Shishkin, V.G. Perov va boshqalar); muzeyda 19-asr rus rassomlarining nodir asarlari toʻplangan (I.Ye.Repin, V. A. Serov, I.I. Levitan, N.K.Rerix va boshqalar). Muzey fondi 50 mingdan ziyod eksponatga ega (2005), tomoshabinlar soni yiliga 250 mingdan oshadi. Muzeyda Oʻzbekiston xalq amaliy sanʼati, Oʻzbekiston tasviriy sanʼati, rus sanʼati, Gʻarbiy Yevropa sanʼati, Xorijiy Sharq xalklari sanʼati boʻlimlari, xazina, taʼmirlash ustaxonasi, fotolaboratoriya bor, lektoriy tashkil etilgan. Muzey ilmiy muassasa sifatida Oʻzbekiston tasviriy sanʼati boʻyicha ilmiy tekshirish ishlari olib boradi: sanʼat asarlari sotib oladi, ularni ilmiy yoritadi, muzey xazinasidagi sanʼat asarlarini tahlil qiladi, tavsiflaydi, ilmiy asarlar, katalog , albomlar nashr etadi (mas, "Yapon gravyurasi Oʻzbekiston davlat sanʼat muzeyi toʻplamida" katalogi; "Davlat sanʼat muzeyi" albomi, "Toshkentda eng yaxshi" turkum maʼlumot kitobi va boshqalar), xazinasidagi sanʼat asarlari asosida mavzuli koʻrgazmalar tashkil etadi, chet mamlakatlar (AQSH, Belgiya, Buyuk Britaniya, Germaniya, Fransiya, Shveysariya, Rossiya, Xitoy, Yaponiya va boshqalar) koʻrgazmalarida ishtirok etadi (jumladan, "EKSPO—2000" xalqaro koʻrgazmasi, Germaniyada; Xalqaro gilamdoʻzlik koʻrgazmasi hamda "Qadimshunoslik va amaliy sanʼat", AQShda va boshqalar). Ayniqsa, mustaqillik yillarida xorijiy mamlakatlar bilan ijodiy aloqalar kengaydi. Muzey Xalqaro muzeylar qoʻmitasi (IKOM) aʼzosidir. Muzeyga turli davrlarda Sh. Hasanova, S.Abdullayev, D.Roʻziboyev rahbarlik qilgan; 1997 yildan muzey rahbari Nasiba Ibrohimova. Muzey ekspozitsiyasi sanʼat janri va turlariga ajratilgan holda xronologik tartibda tuzilgan. Har bir zaldagi eksponatlar sanʼat turlari, maktablari, anʼanalar va hozirgi rivojlanish markazlariga qarab joylashtirilgan. Ekspozitsiya Oʻzbekistonning qadimiy sanʼat yodgorliklari — Zarautsoy rasmlari, Xolchayondan topilgan haykallarni, soʻng Oʻzbekiston xalq amaliy bezak sanʼatini namoyish etish bilan boshlanadi. Oʻrta Osiyoda yashab ijod etgan rassomlar (I.S.Kazakov, N.N.Karazin, R.K.Zommer va boshqalar)ning 250 ga yaqin sanʼat asarlari toʻplangan, shu yerda ishlagan rassom P. Benkov, A. Ahmedov, N.Qoʻziboyev, S. Abdullayev, R.Choriyev ijodi, tasviriy sanʼat taraqqiyotidagi ularning hissasi muzey ekspozitsiyalarida oʻz aksini topgan. Muzeyda Gʻarb (Italiya, Ispaniya, Germaniya, Niderlandiya, Fransiya, Buyuk Britaniya) va Sharq (Hindiston, Xitoy, Yaponiya, Vyetnam, Myanma) mamlakatlarining tasviriy sanʼat asarlari va amaliy sanʼati namunalariga keng oʻrinlari berilgan. Muzey dastlab knyaz N.K.Romanov saroyida, 1935—66 yi

(Translated by Google) The serving time is sooooo long !!! Having ordered 2 sets, the third type of salad did not wait, after serving hot after half an hour, having finished the salad meal, it was not even expected. After asking for the bill and presenting a complaint because they still didn’t receive the salad, they paid for it and didn’t even hear an apology! Leaving 450t.s. for two adults and a child we arrived hungry. (Original) Время подачи блюд ну оооочень долгое!!! I just can't figure out what they are pushing from when they price the dishes. Greatly overpriced. Lots of good material but very poorly curated and presented in a style of over 50 years ago . Most info provided in Uzbeki some in Russian and English . Navarr app is a good idea but only works on a small number of exhibits . Staff are old style throw back to Soviet era and show little interest in visitors other than taking money and applying their rules. A disappointment-so much fascinating material could be made more interesting and accessible by better presentation.

The building itself is beautiful. The collection is also great but could be more interesting with an excursion. Although they do have a couple of guides they don't make more than two tours in a row, so we had to explore on our own.

Post-soviet museum of history of Uzbekistan. Good place to visit in Tashkent. Pros. 1. Some really unique items, sculptures and wall paintings from Kushan (and Greek-Bactrian) period (right before the turks' migration) 2. Some items from Palaeolithic period (from the Teshik-Tash cave found by Okladnikov's expedition) Cons. 1. No elevators. Try to move between the floors with baby carriage and your 2 years ago old baby. Not the best experience. 2. Taking pictures isn't free... One must pay for it (almost the same price as entrance fee). Like in stone age, really. Everybody has mobile phones nowadays, what to pay for? 3. Not so informative tables with information. First floor in three languages (uzbek/eng/rus). Second floor uzbek and English only. 4. Nothing about ethnographic history of uzbeki people themselves. When uzbek ethnonym firstly arised, when did they came, from where.. nothing. Just fakes about historical persons like Tamerlane: he wasn't an uzbek. And of course he didn't lead the rebellion against Mongolian invaders. 4.1. Blackened "russian empire" and soviet period. By the way, there was no Uzbekistan before Russian expansion. The state in it's contemporary borders was created in soviet times. But there's nothing about it. 5. Second floor is literally nothing to see. If you don't believe that Islam Karimov had saved the world 🙂

Exhibition is not too big, but interesting. Unfortunately, some information is given only in Uzbek. The third floor is more like an advertisent / propaganda, rather than an exhibition. The building is beautiful.

The museum is expensive for foreigners (25000 sum) and not really worth it... It seems big from the outside, but the exposition is poor and the upper floor (dedicated to post-independence Uzbekistan) is more of a propaganda aimed at locals than an informative museum. Would not recommend a visit.

  • 3/5 Jessica E. 11 months ago on Google
The guide book made this sound far more exciting than it was. Unless you have plenty of time, I wouldn't prioritise this museum. The building is beautiful from the outside. Inside, the first floor covers pre-history to the 70s with enough captions in English for you to get the gist. The longer information boards don't make a lot of sense in English, unfortunately. The second floor is a cheerleading exercise on post-independence. If you're interested in the expansion of train lines, or mineral deposits across the country, it'll be right up your street. 50,000 entrance fee and 60,000 photo fee. There were also numerous noisy school groups during our visit, which made it less enjoyable...

  • 3/5 Lino 9 months ago on Google
Full of treasures, but poor display. Objects are simply piled up with scarce information. English speakers will struggle. The third floor, however, is full of info in english, but it is all about state propaganda. If this is your only source of info you will believe the country has always been a full democracy.
