Amazing place! Warm and cozy vibes. Very welcoming and friendly people working. (Loved having a little chat with the sweetest owner I've met in Quebec city) Impeccable cappuccino made with well balanced espresso. I also tried croffle with apple butter which was fantastic as well! Can't wait to visit again

The best latte I’ve had in Québec so far. I also tried the croissant waffle with apple butter - interesting. The cafe just opened a few months ago, and they use local milk, single-sourced coffee beans. The owner was very chatty and talked about their attention to quality and simplicity of the food. 10/10 recommend! You can also work in the cafe. There are WIFI and power plug-ins.

A rare gem in Quebec City where quality matters. First, their Third Wave beans fall into that sweet spot where it is pleasant as a shot (read: pleasant well balanced espresso shot) and also marries well with milk. Second, they elevate your latte-based coffee by using locally sourced milk, which is what a Third Wave coffee deserve, right? Third, flawless execution, bringing consistency into your cup - we want that same taste over and over again. Finally, the milk is served warm, not hot, bringing this natural sweetness into your cup. Bottom line, quality all the way through!

The shop was nice and clean. The servers were so nice and friendly to me. I was stopping at the shop everyday during my vacation and had some interesting conversations to the servers there. Not just that, the coffee was special and great too. :) Will definitely come back if I have any chance back to Quebec.

Could not recommend more highly! I had the most delicious waffle and was recommended the most incredible caramel sauce with Quebec’s vanilla (a wildflower) - in it. Excellent service and they really know their stuff about coffee and Quebecois food!

Visiting from USA, beautiful coffee shop with friendly start and quality espresso technique. Great stop for people who care about their coffee.

Quebec’s most passionate food lover, Allison Van Rassel, is one of the people behind the absolutely delightful new café on rue St Jean. The coffee is perfect, and the food options surprising and original: a croissant/waffle creation with apple butter, or lightly toasted tiny marshmallows. Also 🌈 queer-friendly and very welcoming space with local art on the walls.

Finally visited this new coffee shop co-owned by the best foodie in Quebec - Allison Van Rassel. It didn’t disappoint! The place was charming and tastefully decorated. You feel the “local vibe”. The coffee was excellent, and our barista Jean Philippe was super friendly and knowledgeable. You can feel their love for coffee and customer service. I suggest to arrive early on weekends and enjoy their croissant waffle. They were sold out when I visited but it gives me a chance to return soon 😊

Our favourite coffee shop in Quebec City! The coffee is delicious, with every barista clearly loving their craft. And the owner made us feel incredibly welcome even with a 9 week old baby who was pretty cranky at the time.

Next level specialty coffee in Quebec City. Roasted with passion, served with a smile in a beautiful space where local artists shine bright.

A fantastic find. The croffles were really good. The best coffee in North America. Everything locally sourced and sustainable. Warm and friendly service.

Coffee is not as important as love, but almost; and the two criteria for reviewing a coffee shop are basically the same as those for a relationship in its early stages. First, do I think about it when it is not around. Second, will I drive/walk way out of my way to go there even if it means passing other places. This café in Quebec City's upper town has an espresso so good (as good as any I've had in North America) that I regularly wake up dreaming about it (although I live 45 minutes away) and regularly drive there (this takes 45 minutes). It is co-owned and co-run by Allison Van Rassel, a bilingual foodie, blogger, journalist and tastemaker who appears to have gotten sick of mediocre coffee and taken matters into her own hands, first with an off-hours pop-up inside Nina Pizza Napolitaine, and now at deterroir's current location. The cow's milk is single-farm-sourced from a place near Lévis, and wives who drink such things tell me it's delicious. There is also oat milk from nearby, and in keeping with the Noma-ization of all restaurants everywhere, you can get maple syrup or maple sugar but no sweeteners from across the world. Their espresso is on the nutty/fruity side (aren't they all these days) but not excessively so -- the bitterness any espresso needs is still there. There is one other great café in town but this is the one we keep going back to.

There are lots of choices in this world for coffee...but few satisfy true coffee lovers like deTerroir! Every part of the process is carefully considered to maximize quality, flavor, aesthetics and responsibility. Simply put, go here...talk to the owner or the barista...ask them about their coffee and their beautiful city. You will walk away with far more than an amazing cup of coffee. Finding gems like DeTerroir are what makes traveling so much fun!

👍 We were there for lunch and there was no lineup. We ordered the croissant sandwiches and coffee, both are freshly made. Highly recommend. Staff are very helpful to suggest food from the menu.
