After googling for a recommendation for onion soup we decided to try le hobbit. We came for lunch and there was no onion soup on the menu but we decided to stay anyways and ordered the menu with the soup and one menu with the cheese fondue which costs additional but only is a single bite portion and the taste was nothing special which was the same for the soup and the rest of the meals, not bad but nothing I would say is have to go back for. The service was very good and hence 2 stars. I would recommend to look for other places since there are so many great places here

UPDATE AFTER OWENER'S COMMENT: You may give this information in your menu. Like when you order duck breast, other stuff in your plate is much more than breast itself as it is a free-fed duck! Regarding the diversity of the menu, you may check other restaurants to see how is theirs. Add a photo of your menu here, give correct information to customers instead of justifying what they see in reality. You can easily write to fill full order two dishes as we use super organic ingredients and cannot give you that much for 36$! You may update the info here. What I said is fully correct. If a Pizza restaurant changes its menu to sushi and people come there for pizza because their information is not update, it is the business fault. Update your page then with new owner's photos. When people order steak or duck breast, they want to eat meat not vegetables! I forgot to say that we could eat soup with fork as it was super thick! Maybe it is the way you serve soup but not others. OLDER COMMENT: They are out of meat. BRING YOUR MEAT here. The chef has 1 kg meat and uses that for whole day. So, expect your steak be 100 gram! Do you sea duck breast in my photo?? They should say small part of duck breast for 36$. The ingredients cost them nothing but they oversell it. Definitely they are not $$ restaurant. They have to fix it. They said in the comments they have change the menu and chef together. Do not rely on any old photos. They do not have any of them! Whatever I came for here didn't exist. We just order one mushroom plate (8 mushrooms!!), one duck breast (100 gram of breast not a duck breast in real), and soup which was super shallow!! We paid more 70$ and we left here to find another place to eat it. They have only 4 main meals, and few starters. Their menu is also the least diverse I had ever seen so far. The smallest portion I have ever had. Does small portion means a high class restaurant? Not really to me.

Went there for brunch. Was a bit hangover and the food did not hit the spot. Portions are small (as intended, but the prices don't reflect that). I took the Benedictine (as recommended by our waitress), but it was not worth the 35$ I ended paying for (40 with coffee). I feel like they try to be more fancy than they need to. PS : my friends made their own breakfast with the side dishes available and this was well better in terms of value amd pretty good (especially the sausage)

We had the most amazing experience. Fixed menu, with corresponding wines, 8 courses, 3 1/2 hours. Service was great, the waiter asked us multiple times whether we wanted to proceed or wait for a minute between courses. Of course, we waited. Absolutely no rush we loved it. Very interesting menu, expertly executed. Many thanks to the team at Le Hobbit for an unforgettable New Years Eve dinner <3

I am an absolute #tolkien #geek …so when we arrived in #quebeccity tired and hungry looking for somewhere to lunch… and #lehobbit popped up as a restaurant in the area… well you can guess what happened immediately! Ofcourse #googlemaps did not warn me of the steep stairs and hill I had to climb… but I beared it and grinned coz I was off on an unexpected journey… luckily the food was #delicious and apparently the restaurant has been around for 45 years, so obviously well established. We had the fried #smelts and #whelks appetizer then shared the #porkflank and #cavatelli mains. The only thing else I could’ve asked for was a pint and maybe some longbottom leaf

Nestled in the heart of the Quebec city, it is an impeccable dining haven that seamlessly marries delectable cuisine with impeccable service. From the moment you step inside, the inviting ambiance sets the stage for a memorable culinary experience.

We made a reservation for New Year's Eve. Upon arriving and to our surprise, they informed us that they would only be serving a fixed 7 course menu. They really should have informed us before hand. A few other surprised customers who made reservations decided to leave on the spot. With limited options without a reservation on New Year's Eve, we decided to stay. They were not able to accommodate our mushroom allergy request since the menu was fixed. While we enjoyed the "to the sea..." dish and the "looking forward..." dessert, we were not a big fan of the other dishes. The "through the forest..." dish was too sweet. The rest of the dishes were not that special, and certainly not worth the price. The staff were friendly and the restaurant had a nice atmosphere.

Excellent breakfast! The Eggs were so so good. The grilled bread with blueberry compote was the perfect pairing to a great morning meal. Window seating provided a pleasant view. Service was kind and efficient. Thank you!

Super small portions, what you see as images is the samosa like cakes. It’s supposed to be a dinner portion. As is the duck plate. Perhaps an attempt for a futuristic meal, duck fat wasn’t rendered and tough to eat. Sadly nothing special to return. Both items brought the bill to $60+ before tax and tip. We would not go back.

The food was decent but in the end I was left wanting more. We had the soup of the day, toasted bread, burrata, and fish rillettes. The best was definitely the soup and the bread. The burrata was also quite good and the hazelnut was a nice combination to the cheese. The fish rillettes was like eating fancy canned tuna which I think you can skip. The main course was good. I had the catch of the day (red snapper) and my partner had the duck breast. Same story - pretty good but I think they could have went further. The duck was cooked well but the skin was a bit tough. The sauce and the garnish was delicious, though. The snapper was tender and cooked perfectly and the creamy sauce complemented the fish beautifully. I really liked the beet roots and the salmon roe as garnish, too. If I had to pick, I would recommend the fish. The dessert was a bit unexpected but for the better. The crème brûlée had the flavour of a squash and the garnish was two small piece of gingerbread cookies and acorn. It was very inline with the season and different from other crème brûlées that we’ve had. Overall, the food and the experience was very solid but I was wanting a bit more for the price that we paid. I would still recommend it if you are looking for a decent enough restaurant for the evening!

I had the pleasure of eating here both nights I was in Quebec. The food was spectacular - from the appetizers, to the main course, all the way to dessert. I felt the portions were sufficient given I intended on a three-course meal, and went away feeling satisfied (in addition to all the courses being delicious). The cocktails were also excellent as was the service. I returned to try a dish new to me (sweetbreads) since the staff had recommended it so strongly, and was not disappointed. Certainly off the beaten track, and worth the wander down Rue St-Jean.

The food did not hit the spot. The kitchen there seems to source fresh ingredients and may even know the technique, but the flavours are too bland, lacking in creativity and trying to be too fancy. If I could leave one recommendation - I'd say go back to basics and learn to deliver a culinary experience instead of raising prices and pretenting to be what you aren't. You can always make more when you have a crowd at your door. We ordered a halibut plate that was minuscule for 38 dollars and wasn't fancy or extraordinary either. It was cooked correctly, but lacked in seasoning. The lobster bisque that was supposed to complement the fish ended up being some watery substance in which canned corn and mustard leaves were seated, serving as a final frontier between the swampy bottom of the plate and the crispy quarter of a halibut steak. Your mom would have cooked you a better halibut and wouldn't skimp on flavour. However, this is the whole story with this place - they are afraid of flavour. The pork chop was a bit bigger than the fish but did not impress either. They may have used a sous-vide, or maybe just marinated it well, so you could taste some herbiness, but this is where the excitement ends. The so-called chimichurri was bland and mixed with tomato sauce. Needless to say that there was no heat to it, no garlic flavour, no flavour at all actually. Finally, the service was very much laissez-faire. The waiter has forgot to ask us about allergies but did ask the table next to us (thankfully we don't have any). They also didn't bring us a dessert menu 10 minutes after we asked. Instead they decided to chit chat with the guests at the bar. I can clearly understand this when the restaurant is full, although of course bringing a menu should be simple enough. However, it wasn't even close to half full, so we were just left alone throughout the evening. We decided to leave at the end. The server was helpful at explaining the menu initially and did ask us about the food once we started. In their defence, my girlfriend liked the food although she does agree on the service being below the standard. Now if you can explain why bland food deserves the prices they set - let me know. Le Hobbit - get your act together or Smaug and hungry visitors will get you closed for good.

Went to have brunch at this restaurant with some friends. I first ate there in 2018 or 2019 - that time i had eggs benedicts on a parisbrest bread, and it was honestly one of the best eggs benedicts i’ve had - so i was really excited to go back. Sadly, my experience this time was not great. While the service and atmosphere were excellent, I was very disappointed with the food, as the portions were much smaller than they used to be, and the food was extremely blend (barely any taste in most dishes except maybe the bene-ghetti which had some flavour). Won’t be recommending that place anymore… unless they step-up (and they need to step up quite a lot).

We had a great meal at le hobbit! They are very creative with their dishes and they are very yummy. Excellent service! The deviled eggs in beet sauce were very surprising and so delicious!

This place deserves 6 stars! The food is absolutely amazing. Things like grilled cucumber with chili seeds blew my mind how well it paired together. The pasta is a must try too, one of the best things I have ever eaten! The staff is very friendly and inviting, extremely clean in the bathrooms. A must try if your in Quebec City!!

Lovely ambience, and dinner tonight. The portions are perfectly sized. We left feeling well satisfied and not overly stuffed. I was very apprehensive about the number of components to the desserts (I do not recall the names and wish I had made note of them). However, they were quite appealing visually, and tasted great! Very happy overall with this meal and service.

We enjoyed our lunch, terrific service. A wonderful French meal. The fingerling potatoes are a specialty. The Turnip soup with pickled carrots a perfect experience.

I was in such an extravagant establishment for the first time, and they helped me choose what I liked. The young waitress was very attentive and patient, despite the fact that I called her over a hundred times to ask what each dish meant. However, there are a few remarks. 1. The food portion was too large, the meat platter runs out quickly, and then you're not eating delicacies but something unclear made of children's cereal. 2. The drink was wonderful, not having large chunks of ice is great. 3. In this dessert, there was very little ice cream, I like popcorn but this one was not airy at all, I added a photo of how the popcorn should look - all in caramel and airy.

My husband and I are big fans of The Hobbit so we had to try this place out. We were not disappointed! We had brunch and the food was just delicious! We sat outside and enjoyed the nice view. The service was quick and friendly.

We had Eggs Benedict, BLT, deviled eggs: unique recipes, delicious, presented with style and served fast. 170 cad for 4 but well worth it. Highly recommended.

We came here for the French onion soup but they don't have it. We want to try the 5 courses tasting menu and they said you have to order two, you can't order one regular menu then the other get the tasting menu. So We ordered octopus, foie gras and soup. The portions were small and overpriced.

Lovely setting and great service. Menu...okay. Plates very nicely presented. Not amazing given the prices.

Very tiny portions for the price they charge. The mackeral dish we had was not good at all, the actual fish pieces were barely the size of my thumb, and the rest of it was a mystery in shape and taste. Didn't enjoy the tartare as much, but it's probably just issue of preference. Their home made bread was pretty good and I liked the pumpkin spice butter, but it was $5 for one. The one dish that was worth it was the pork chop, beautiful presentation, good size and taste.

Cozy restaurant filled with local artwork. Friendly staff with great food. I came for dinner and had a great experience. However, the place seemed a tad understaffed. (Holiday Season)

Come here for the taste of the delicious food, not the quantity like at a regular breakfast joint. So you might want to order an extra dish on the side. I got the bacon! Depending on the day, you’re better to make a reservation. Great staff! Be warned! Parking can be scarce. So walk to the venue if you can.

The food was outstanding. Plating - borderline art. Why 3 stars? Well, the wait between the appetizer and the main course for me was over an hour long. I understand that this is probably due to the fact that my wife ordered a 5 course sampler while I just ordered 2 dishes off the menu, but that is not an excuse. Timing is part of a good restaurant experience and you completely blew it in that regard.

Went for breakfast! Was pleasantly surprised by delicious flavours. I had a Fig and Prosciutto Crostini with a side egg and side bacon. And my friend wasn’t hungry so enjoyed a simple poached egg “gourmande” which she enjoyed. Would definitely return! And actually would want to try their dinner.

Stopped by for a birthday brunch and everything was so refined. We loved our dishes and it was so cozy inside. I got the potato waffle with smoked mackerel and it was divine. My partner really enjoyed his braised deer and eggs dish. We also got the trout gravlax and it was delicious! The service was splendid, we got so many water refills.

I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. The staff were friendly, accommodating and fun to be around, especially our server Max. We had the Benedict and the toast for breakfast and it was probably the best meal we had in Quebec City. My only regret is that we didn’t have time to try the lunch and dinner menu options.

  • 5/5 Martha W. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent for brunch. I had a delicious trout dish, including cheesy tater tots (yum), which sounds odd to have before noon, but it was a tasty protein boost! (See photos) They have outdoor seating, too – which is usually crowded – and which why I had to sit inside. So, in sum: the food is delicious, the service is impeccable, and the interior is beautiful, with original artwork on the walls. Definitely include Le Hobbit in your foodie itinerary in QC. This is not tourist food. It’s delicious and worth every penny!

I am so pleased that I chose to have breakfast outside the hotel. We really enjoyed the breakfast, the customer service and the restaurant atmosphere. Very well managed and I will definitely come back for a super later.

At the Hobbit the menu is designed for a bit of mix and matching with smaller (but still ample) portions to avoid wasted food. And it's a lot of fun to combine different options. The food is fantastic. I had the pain perdu served with delicious jam and some soft feta and I shared the tator tots with my husband who had the egg special, an innovative egg taco. The staff were very friendly and helpful and answered all of our questions about the menu. The decor is bright and sunny. Highly recommend this place for a memorable meal.

Had an amazing time here! The staff is super friendly and presentation is spot-on. We had the soup of the day which was nice and creamy. We also had the ravioli which was nicely cook and soft. For the main course I had a duck breast which had a good sear and perfect cook. My girlfriend took the porchetta and smoked mackerel and loved it! A rustic and nice place for dinner night.

Only reviewing the breakfast. The food come in small size so each person was recommended to order 2-3 dishes to get enough to eat. I had the egg’s Benedict and tater tots. The tater tots reminds me croquette and they are quite tasty. Overall it’s a nice cozy restaurant with friendly staff that I would want to visit again. Don’t forget your second coffee is free. ☕️

Service and food was perfect. I had the the duck and my partner had the octopus for mains. Both cooked to our liking. The staff were very nice as well. We ordered ravioli for an appetizer. Roughly 5 mins after, the server and an older gentleman( possibly the chef/owner) politely informed us of they had run out and offered a very good alternative. They handled their mistake well. Would come again
