Church burned on April 27, 1760, on Murray's orders, by Major John Dalling, commander of the light infantry, in the rearguard during Murray's retreat towards Quebec, who had understood that LĂ©vis was refusing combat at that time to continue towards the city and prevent the return of the English army within the walls. The confrontation (Battle of Ste-Foy, or Second Battle of the Plains of Abraham) took place the next day, April 28, 1760. The site, owned by the City, is set up for community activities under the name Site patrimonial de la Visitation. A second Notre-Dame de Foy church was erected next door; and it is closed.
