Stayed
here
with
2other
couples,
and
we’re
all
bewildered
by
the
glowing
reviews.
It’s
very
clean
and
the
beds
are
comfortable,
which
should
be
true
for
any
decent
hotel.
There
is
continental
breakfast,
for
which
you
pay
as
part
of
the
nightly
rate.
It’s
in
a
great
location,
for
which
you
pay
a
premium.
So
it
meets
several
very
basic
requirements.
The
service?
—
At
first
we
thought
it
was
decent
when
we
called
about
checking
in
a
day
early.
The
front
desk
person
fumbled
a
bit,
but
assured
us
that
all
three
rooms
could
be
extended
without
a
problem.
When
we
arrived,
things
started
slipping.
First,
there
is
no
real
lobby,
so
we
immediately
realized
that
any
time
all
of
us
wanted
to
just
sit
and
relax
together
we’d
have
to
go
elsewhere
and
buy
drinks
or
something.
(Turns
out
that
there
are
no
bars
in
old
Quebec
and
restaurants
make
you
order
food
along
with
alcohol
to
sit
in
their
bars.
Expensive.)
What
the
hotel
considers
their
“lobby”
is
a
cramped
little
room
with
six
or
so
uncomfortable
dining-type
armless
chairs
around
the
perimeter.
The
check-in
process
was
a
joke.
The
very
nice
man,
fumbling
through
printouts
of
room
rosters,
told
us
that
one
couple
would
have
to
change
rooms
after
two
nights.
Which
means
that
even
if
we
hadn’t
checked
in
early,
one
couple
still
would
have
had
to
change
rooms.
My
husband
and
I
volunteered
to
take
the
room
change,
were
asked
to
prepay
the
first
two
of
four
nights,
then
given
the
code
to
open
the
door
to
our
room.
When
I
opened
the
door
I
discovered
the
room
was
obviously
occupied
(though
thankfully
the
occupants
were
out).
Security?
—
Not
so
much.
Our
actual
room
was
fine.
1980’s
curtains
that
clashed
horribly
with
the
new
wall
paint,
two
very
uncomfortable
‘90’s
dentist’s
waiting-room
chairs,
but
cool
exposed
brick
and
slanted
dormer
ceiling.
Heard
every
person
walking
down
the
hallway
as
though
they
were
inside
our
room.
Husband
and
I
decided
we’d
leave
after
our
two
prepaid
nights
(over
24
hours
notice)
and
move
to
much
less
expensive
Airbnb
—
with
a
living
room
—
around
the
corner.
Our
friends
would
stay.
The
owner
was
at
the
front
desk
and
I
politely
told
him
that
we
had
decided
to
move
hotels
since
we’d
have
to
move
rooms
anyway
and
we
wanted
a
common
area,
and
he
was
very
rude
and
went
off
about
how
if
we
left
he’d
“have
to”
charge
us
an
additional
night.
I
pointed
out
that
we
were
glad
to
stay
through
the
two
nights
for
which
we
had
already
paid
and
that
we
were
giving
a
day’s
notice,
and
he
became
quite
angry
and
told
me
something
about
having
checked
in
early
and
that
our
original
reservation
had
a
change
deadline
that
had
already
passed
(I
didn’t
make
the
reservation,
so
did
not
know
this.
But
we
certainly
had
not
reserved
a
room
that
would
require
us
to
move
in
the
middle
of
our
stay!)
So
whatever.
I
let
it
go
and
went
to
get
breakfast.
Guests
may
NOT
serve
themselves
and
may
not
take
items
away
(no
breakfast
in
your
room).
The
server
made
me
an
undrinkable
cafe
au
lait
(I’m
pretty
easy
about
my
caffeinated
beverages,
but
that
was
awful.
Could
not
stomach
it.)
Asked
for
yogurt
and
fruit
and
was
handed
a
random
flavor,
not
asked
which
I
might
prefer.
Fruit
was
good.
Later
in
the
day,
when
rooms
were
being
cleaned,
I
walked
past
another
guest’s
room
that
had
been
left
with
the
door
all
the
way
open,
the
guest’s
laptop
and
chargers
on
the
desk
right
inside
the
door
and
no
staff
in
sight!
We
went
about
our
visit,
then
on
our
last
night,
we
decided
to
forgo
the
hassle
of
trying
to
find
somewhere
to
settle
without
paying
a
small
fortune
and
sat
chatting
in
the
“lobby.”
At
9:25pm
the
person
at
the
front
desk
told
us
that
she
was
sorry,
but
we’d
have
to
leave
at
9:30
when
her
shift
ended
because
she
needed
to
close
and
lock
the
room
so
the
airpot
would
not
be
stolen.
I
don’t
understand
why
the
pot
could
not
be
taken
elsewhere
and
locked
up
so
as
not
to
disturb
guests
(it
was
just
a
regular
airpot
like
you’d
have
at
home),
but
that
was
not
an
option.
She
was
nice
about
it
though
embarrassed.
Guest
room
security
is
a
joke
but
that
previous
pot
is
locked
up
nightly.
Not
recommended.
