My family and I used to be regular customers at The Commo, however after our most recent experience I doubt we will be back. It all started when my mother called to book a table, and was barked at through the phone that they were busy and she would need to call back later as they didn't have time to find the reservation book, poor excuse for customer service there. Then when we arrived for our lunch, I was helping my elderly grandmother in through the door to her seat, she has trouble walking and needs to sit down, we were then yelled at by a woman behind the bar that we would need to show our vaccine certificates. I understand this is a requirement of entry, however I'm sure I could have sat my grandmother down and then shown them. There was also no greeting, hello or welcome. Another poor excuse for customer service. Then my aunty ordered a drink with no ice, when her drink arrived with ice she asked for a new one with no ice like she had ordered and the girl behind the bar proceeded to scoop out the ice from the drink and then top the original glass up and give it back to her. Absolutely disgraceful. The final straw was my lamb ragu which was so watery (see photo) and had absolutely no flavour. I didn't even bother to complain or ask for a new dish as I'm sure that I would have received the same dismissive, rude treatment we had for the rest of our time here. We will need to see some drastic improvements to this establishment before we would even consider returning. Very very disappointed.

Awesome pub style setting for a meal. Been a few times over the years and now gotten a few others on the bandwagon. Consistently great food, fantastic menu variety. Going back you want to order the dish you had last but there are so many other options. Lots of veg and pescatarian options in particular. This time had the garlic bread, roast n veg, salmon, mussels, calamari and fish tacos. All delicious and all great serves. Best garlic bread I've ever had, calamari was so tender, fish tacos came were flavourful and mussels fresh as, though the broth was too salty imo. Wine pricing reasonable though a few of the bottle prices vs glass don't make sense (check the French rose). Friendly and efficient service from booking, to table service, to leaving.

Just went and had a roast lamb meal at this pub. It was the worst roast lamb I have ever had, the meat was tought and who give boiled potatoes to someone and says they are roast potatoes. I'm sure you could get better food in a nursing home

The Commo has been a regular venue for our Family and Friends for casual get togethers for many years because of the great food, good selection in the menu, value pub meals, attentive/engaging service. "Five weeks ago" I made a lunchtime reservation for today, Sunday 3/7 and explicitly articulated that we required a table of 7 by the fire. I was told that this would not be a problem because my booking was the only one in the book at that time. I requested this table as we were being joined by our 90 and 82 year old Grandmothers and this table would be easy access for them to get in and out of, easy for them to hear and join in the conversation as well as being warm by the fire. I called the week before to confirm that this was still the case - a table for 7 in front of the fire and this was confirmed. Upon arrival today, we were snapped at " do you have a booking?"by the Manager. To which we replied yes. At this point we discovered other members of our party were already seated in the booth style seating down the back, away from the fire. Disappointed and annoyed that my request had not been meet after 2 confirmations, I queried why we were down the back of the room and not where I had booked. I was snapped at again and told a table could be arranged in front of the window. Knowing that times are difficult in the current climate with staffing, stresses of running hospitality service etc, I said not to worry about it as we didn't want to cause a fuss and inconvenience the other dinners. Our salmon, barramundi and calamari meals were lovely however the eye fillet steak was cold when brought to the table and the duck fat potatoes with the duck were soggy. Desserts were delicious as was the coffee. The young lady waiting our table for the meals was very polite and genuinely engaging. I appreciate that hospitality can be a difficult stressful job, especially in the current climate, but the "grumpy" Manager's really needs to look at the tone taken with patrons. A disappointing experience today.

Do yourself a favour and visit The Commo next time you are in Geelong. Wonderful staff, fantastic food and great atmosphere. Close to GMHBA stadium. 20 out of 10 for us tonight!!! Loved it 😍

Came here a couple of weeks ago and it was mostly great except for the fact the older lady with blonde hair and glasses maybe the owner was caught giving dirty looks and rolling her eyes at a younger female staff member, (who also had blonde hair) for chatting with me. I didn't think this was very fair or very professional. It's not illegal to have a chat with customers at work and she was merely trying to help decide my order. I would also like to add the same older lady was seen on her laptop when I first walked in and had completely missed me approaching the bar and trying to order because of it.

Great food options with specials every night. Prices for food are okay but alcoholic drinks on tap are $17! Bistro and bar seating are spacious, seem to get really busy due to popularity most nights. Kind staff.

Basic pub food in an odd setting. It's cheap feel gambling style front pub with a renovated dinning room attached. They used to be cheap. After the renovations, they put the price of but left the average pub food and gambling style bar.

What a fab find for a lazy Monday public holiday lunch! A lovely, older style pub at the side meets a fresh modern yet cosy dining room on the other. Service today was great from everyone too. I was a little shocked how big the children’s meals were, all full of fresh produce, our kids schnitzel and steak were outstanding. The pumpkin soup was lovely, as was the HUGE chicken Parma! I love a parma and this one was hot, fresh, full of amazing salad on the side…Hot chips… it fed two adults basically so that’s how big it was. 10/10.

This is a very reliable place for a good meal of high standard and generous proportions. The atmosphere is also good. Meal prices do not disappoint. The drink prices are a bit high though. Overall you will be happy to come again.

Delicious as always. Nana went mad after a few ginger beers and ordered 4 cheesy garlic breads. She's now in respite. Cheers

Noisy atmosphere. Was not happy with my meal. Had chicken scallopini with 2 thick slices that were over cooked and very unappealing chunky vegetables.

This once Great Pub, renowned for efficient table service & fantastic hot tradesman quality meals, has sadly met it’s demise since new ownership. A very sad loss to all of Geelong & it’s surrounds, as everyone’s all time favourite for a great feed. Is no more. I thought I’d give it the benefit of the doubt last Wednesday 28/9. I’d never seen the bar so quiet, our meals took way longer than I’m accustomed to & our dishes sat for more that 20mins waiting for collection. Not at all the good ol Commo etiquette. Once home, I ushered my visitor out the door, where my evening meal had me hugging the toilet bowl for the next 8hrs. 36hrs later, I’m slowly replenishing & back on my feet. Needless to say, there won’t be a next time. A sad end to 26yrs of family meals & memories. 😔

Love coming to the Commo. Beautiful friendly staff as you walk in. Delicious food, always hot and full of flavour. My favourite is the garlic prawns couldn't ask for better if I tried!!!

We were on a table of 8. 2 of the meals were brought out, then there was a large time gap before the remaining meals were produced. Some of the meals were luke warm at best. A staff member acknowledged this with an apology & offered us all a complimentary dessert/drink as a result, which was a nice touch.

Quite nice I has the silverside which was a good portion and very tasty, my mum enjoyed her barramundi and they were very accommodating by grilling it instead of the beer battered on the menu. The roast lamb was a tad tough and portion size was a little to be desired for $25. Service was friendly and helpful. Overall worth the visit, although with a toddler the open fire was a bit dangerous for our liking.

Sticky BBQ pork ribs with hand made sour cream, perfectly fried wedges and a side salad shared between myself and my partner. Jack made a cocktail, not on the menu, a red gin blast. My partner enjoyed a perfectly chilled pot of Great Northern. Thank you for a memorable lunch, made my first day off with it.

Great meal, haven't been for a long time but the meal was great and the beer was cold. I feel for restaurants and cafes right now trying to get enough staff to serve customers quickly and efficiently, and that they're already trained in what to do. This is not a complaint as we were very well looked after but just pointing out my observation. Well done, great job, we will return.

Good beer and good food. Staff were efficient and friendly enough. Had the Chicken Scallopini. Good size serve for the price. The chicken was moist and tender with plenty of sauce. Best thing about it was having 4 different vegetables in it. No sign of the dreaded "mixed leafy greens" that far to many pubs use as a plate filler and rarely gets eaten! Would've given 5 stars except a mate had the mixed grill which was a bit light on. The steak was tiny, although the small size was in the menu detail. We agreed that in an attempt to keep the price down the quantity was compromised. He would've been happy paying a higher price for a better and larger cut of steak. He did say the sausage was very good!

Food was OK. Nothing special. Menu was pretty boring. Great if you love chicken or fish. Meals are way too big. Don't get the ribs.
