What a cool hike that is worth doing if you're in Magnetic Island! It's about a 90min return and lots of WW2 history that's signed throughout where the soldiers were based between 1939-45. The views are glorious and it can get hit quick so early morning is recommended. Apparently, this is a great spot for koalas too (didn't see any).

Well worth the walk. We did it in the early hours so we wouldn't be too warm. Outlooks are great, and we got to see a Koala with her baby chilling out in a tree. Take plenty of water with you.

Good and easy walk up with a fantastic view. It was 4km going up and around and back. We saw one koala very close to the trail and were super happy. Possible with flip Flops but easier with shoes. A little slippery (dry and dusty) on the way down.

Beautiful Walk and seen 4 Koalas. Way goes lightly upwards but its ok. We have been there with our baby. Did not used a stroller but a baby carrybag. We saw some families with stroller but seams its not much fun.

Beautiful walk, first thing in the morning with two kids (one 5 year old walking independently and one 2 year old in a hiking backpack). Was a lovely walk, very interesting ruins (complete with bats) and a wild koala!

Very well presented with good walkway signage. Great reflection of WWII era history that many people forget. Some say they saw Koalas on the walkabout ...

What a fantastic hike. Total distance walked was about 4klm. Some hills along the track and also stairs towards the top of the tracks. To enter the forts there is also some ladders. The views are incredible. From the towers there is almost 300 degree views. We were so lucky to see 4 Kolas on the hike too which our 6 & 4 year old loved. Arrows drawn on the ground telling us where the Kolas were was super helpful. Highly recommend this hike.

Amazing views and I got to see a koala! The track is easy to climb and has drinking water available at one spot. There are no toilets though. It is very popular with families as well. It's best to rent a car and travel at your own pace else you will end up waiting for bus.

Beautiful views at the top and even along the way. 1 koala spotted. Some steep parts but I pretty easy hike most of the way. I started at 6am before the heat of the day.

A relatively easy walk on either gravel track or stone steps. We visited between 8am and 9.30am and saw only one Koala. The forts are interesting and offer some great views across the island and sea. The forts walk, Florence Bay, the lookouts etc. Took us 2.5 hours of moving time (not including stops, photos etc.) The car park was full by the time we finished at around 11am.

A very nice walk where you can see wild koalas. During the summer is preferrable start the walk early in the morning because koalas leave the trees during the hottest hours of the day.Beautiful views of the island from the top. There are toilets and drinking water.

Bring the drone and capture the stunning views which surrounds the Forts! We saw 2 koalas while on our walk. Stunning views & pretty cool history. If you choose to do the walk down to Horseshoe Bay, highly recommend bringing extra water and snacks. We took our 3 year daughter and it took us 3.5hrs. My hubby carried her for 60% of the trip. There was a lot of steps, steep incline and road access. Barely any phone service and it was about 8km

This is a great walking track to see the ww2 remains and lots of koalas!! The route is great as you can make it as long or short as desired. We saw 4 wild koalas; so make sure to keep your eyes peeled! ( we saw all of them on the right hand side). Make sure to use the toilet in the car park before you set off as there is non on the route. Difficultly wise I’d say for a fit person this is easy!

Great hike. Several koalas close to the trail. Trail beautifully groomed. Lots of pretty stone stairs too, and beautiful views. A must do hike! No dogs no bikes (stairs)

If you only get time to do one hike on Magnetic Island make sure this is the one. The easy walk is packed full of military history, wildlife and stunning views in all directions from the summit. There is a small car park before the descent to Horseshoe Bay from Arcadia with longdrop toilets and plenty of information boards. The local bus service also has a scheduled stop shelter. Allow between 90 minutes and 2 hours for a return trip and aim to start early morning if you want to enjoy some active Koalas on the relatively straightforward ascent (you may spot some clues in the form of stick markers or arrows in the sand, or simply other walkers staring into the eucalypts). Lots of information boards en route, particularly relating to the fascinating military history and a range of buildings to explore near the summit, including gun emplacements, observation tower and communications tower. These can be easily accessed via a short circular pathway, but take care on its rocky descent. The views from these various vantage points are simply stunning, particularly towards Horseshoe Bay, but with the majority of the Island being a national park, the unspoilt beauty on display in all directions is something quite special.
