Beautiful train ride with views over valleys and rivers. Very interesting watching the locomotive turned on the pneumatically powered turntable at Amamoor. On train staff/volunteers were friendly and professional.

An amazing day out! We were so excited to see we could take our puppy out for a day trip with us. Very welcoming team, felt like it was an easy check in and great to be able to get a coffee to take with us, all the team were very professional, excited and happy to help us in any way. We had so much fun and so did our puppy.

Chose spontaneously to board this train when visiting friends in Gympie. The train station is beautiful with all amenities including a cafe that offers a great menu. Food looked fabulous and unfortunately we didn't have time to eat here. Purchasing tickets and getting on board was easy and staff were very helpful. Great to sit on a train with comfortable, padded seats, having windows down and hearing the whistle! Stops at a few places for 'change of staff- and then arrive at Amamoor where the train gets turned around on the turnstiles for return journey home. While waiting, there are toilets, few ladies hold a 'market' where you can purchase home made items, a local shop to purchase sandwiches/coffee etc etc. Enjoyable ride and volunteer staff are friendly. They do stick to a rigid time table, so don't be late.

Well, I have to give this five stars. It's a Queensland and Gympie icon run by an enthusiastic and dedicated crew of volunteers. We paid for the Premium service and certainly got it! While the steam journey is a bit short it's entertaining worth commentary along the way. The engine is turned around at Amamoor which in itself is great to watch. Recommend it for tourists domestic and international alike.

We travelled on the Mary Rattler on Sunday and chose the Gold Class experience. The trip was fantastic with the wind gently blowing though the train windows as we journeyed through the countryside. The sound of the train and smell of the coal was really cool.. We had a cheese and nibble platter and a glass of bubbles as part of the package. Our host Marilyn was fabulous, chatted to us and ensured we had a great time. Definately recommend.

We travelled on The Rattler yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and lunch at the Rusty Rails Cafe on our return. We travelled through some beautiful scenery and enjoyed the quirks of steam train travel. The destination at Amamoor would be perfect for a picnic lunch. Would recommend the trip.

Truly a wonderful experience. You won't be disappointed. I booked a first class trip for my parents and I. They suggested we arrive at the station by 9:15, I think that's an hour before the train departs. But I'm very glad they did because it gave us time to grab coffee from the Rusty Rails Cafe, watch as the engine pulled into the station, and even have a quick chat with one of the engineers. There's a lot to experience before the journey even starts, so give yourself plenty of time and don't make the mistake of arriving just in time to board. The first class experience was wonderful. We had cheese platters on arrival and we had our choice of drink. Thankfully, the heritage experience didn't extend to the bar service, and there was EFTPOS available to purchase a couple more 😅🍸 I don't want to spoil too much about the journey but it's a delightful day trip, educational, interesting, and very relaxing. The team at the Mary Valley Rattler do extraordinary work, and I can't recommend this experience enough.

We were able to take our dogs with us and had a separate cabin to ourselves. The station at Gympie is beautifully preserved and the staff are so happy and informative you can tell they love working there. Have a yummy coffee or a bite to eat at the cafe before riding the train through to Amaroo where you can get off and watch the loco on the turntable and buy crafts from the market stalls. Gorgeous country side to look at the whole way. Really enjoyed our day.

Yesterday I did the Silver Bullet high tea experience with a friend. It was so special and an trip I'd highly recommend. The Mary Valley Rattler team are truly wonderful and so passionate about what they do. The food was amazing. Beautifully presented with a great selection of savoury and sweet. Bottomless coffee and tea with a sparkling and take away MVR glass makes it exceptional value. The train travels through the Gympie countryside to the quaint little Dagun station. It's a lovingly restored station with book exchange and stands set-up for liqueur tastings (not available Friday, but it did make me want to come back). There are also beautiful timber picnic tables with seats for sale . Spoiler Alert - the chocolate dipped strawberries on the way back from Dagun were AMAZING! In fact, the best I've ever eaten! Thank you to everyone for such a special morning and the great work you do.

Thoroughly recommend this trip with delicious tasting food on board and a great lunch afterwards. Great train trip, beautiful scenery from this lovely old train. Great commentary from staff on the train. Got back to station and our tables with our names on them were waiting for us. Excellent meal and dessert for afters with a choice of cider wine or beer. Interesting museum there to look around.

Great experience for young and old. Locomotive and passenger carriages have been lovingly restored. Very helpful volunteers staffed the train. Interesting commentary during the trip. Orders for lunches taken before the train ride started. Well organised. One of our party had a fall, and the well-trained staff did everything possible to make her journey safe and comfortable.

We had a lovely day on the Rattler last weekend. Riding the rails in an old style carriage with the windows open and the smell of the engine was a fun experience. Along the way we were given some interesting facts about the train and the area we were travelling through via the pa system and our attendant. At the end of the line there were little market stalls with locals selling their handmade wares, a wine and cheese tasting, and an older gentleman entertaining the crowd with his guitar. The menu was ok, not a great selection for the mains and they were both hot dishes. The desserts were nicely presented and tasty. Overall I probably would have been happier with sandwiches and scones with jam and cream. It's a good day out for families, train enthusiasts and those who just want to slow down and enjoy a trip through the countryside.

The train experience is absolutely fantastic. We went in the middle class.caffiage which I would highly recommend for a group. There's not a lot of info available before you actually board the train like how to get a coffee or the toilet situation but the staff and the experience are great

My wife’s birthday present for last November finally came to fruition and no one was disappointed. The 4 adults and 3 grandchildren had the most wonderful experience. The first time the little ones had been on any type of train. The staff at the station made the start so welcoming with easy entry and access to good food and drinks backed up by the tinkling of the piano playing gentleman. Onboard our carriage we had an enthusiastic and friendly young man who advised us of all things to watch out for and historical moments of the journey. The station turnaround at Amamoor was entertaining as was our stop over at Dagan. The volunteers had us involved in many activities and offered us a good old country welcome. As we returned home (all quite tired) we reflected on the journey and again waved to all and sundry amused by the antics of our young 4 year old boy who took his Mary Valley rattler momento home along with fond memories of his first trip on a train. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and recommend the trip to locals and tourists alike. Thanks to everyone involved. WELL DONE!

We loved this experience. There is something about traveling with a real panting, smoking, steam hissing steam engine. The violence of the whistle right before setting in motion raises the heartbeat. We felt so welcome be all the volunteers we met, Adam invited me inb the loco at arrival, Deb took great care of us in the VIP carriage, and Emma shared a lot of nice history on the back balcony. The loco turning is fantastic to witness (we had a thunderstorm as perfect backdrop). Would recommend this event to anyone and the VIP arrangement is definitely worth the extra money.

💯 the best hospitality I’ve experienced in a long long time. Our carriage was looked after the amazing EMMA 🙌🏽🎉 she was delightful for the whole journey. It was heartwarming to see the local volunteers operating stalls & activities alongside the stations we stopped at. Highly recommended for families & couples. ✅✅✅

What a lovely day we had! Thank you to the wonderful staff, especially the volunteers, well done on doing such great work for your community. Sorry for making you go to the front of train for our CC drinks lol if we had known you had to go that far we would have not made you. But we were very appreciative of your enthusiasm to please your customers! Well done wish I remembered your name but you will remember hubby John has is birthday on the 19th lol thanks again for a lovely day. We also enjoyed the little market In Amamoor but spent to much money lol Thanks again John and Lucille Hopkins

The choice to book VIP was a good one. Very happy with the trip which included cheese platter and beverages. Lunch on return. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Amamoor was a lovely stop off with the engine rewind a highlight.

Well, what a day! Fantastic experience, we loved every minute. All staffed by volunteers, we had the lovely Deb & Sherrie in our carriage, and they absolutely made the adventure even better!!! So much fun, and a good laugh! Great job girls!👍🏼 Be sure to check your days/dates, they don't run the steam engine every day. Pack your own food, or buy from the cafe at either end of the journey. OR You can even order your lunch whilst on the train, and it will be waiting for you when you get back. We took this option, and the food was delicious! Packaged beautifully, we sat and ate it in the old station Cafe.

We did the Spooky Train ride and the kids LOVED IT! Such a great atmosphere, the characters were AMAZING! They really brought the train to life with their personalities, their interactions with passengers. Food was delicious, really enjoyed the pasta and the kids love their lunch boxes they get to take home. Definitely going to do another train ride and have already booked it! See you all again. Thank you everyone who made the train ride an AWESOME experience for my kids and myself. Everyone made us feel very welcomed from the moment we arrived at the station to the moment we left. The crew are very friendly.

Perfect morning out for train enthusiasts. A volunteer run steam railway. Lovely restored carriages and an interesting route. This is a must for anyone looking for a different tourist experience, although most of the other passengers seemed to be local, which actually makes it better.

Great experience. The trip through the countryside after the rain was beautiful. Lots of scenic spots for shutter bugs. The volunteers are to be commended for the great job they do. We will definitely be recommending this to others. Congratulations!! 😃

Outstanding experience. We chose to celebrate some birthdays with a High Tea on the Silver Bullet from the Gympie Railway Station to Dagun. A two and a half hour return trip. As a group of four we enjoyed outstanding service, generous food choices, beautiful scenery and a knowledgeable commentary. Arriving early allowed us time for a coffee or pastry at the Rusty Rails Cafe, visit the gift shop and the museum. Unforgettable and a desire to return. Just do it!

Amazing experience, lovely people, train is very well looked after. Enjoyed little chats with volunteers on the train during the trip. Even locals waving 👋when train is passing through, like they are saying thank you for visiting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

For steam train enthusiasts, this was very enjoyable. We went on the top package, which was travel in the "club car" with an excellent mid morning snack & cold drinks. The attendant was very attentive & knowledgeable. At the end of the line, the train went onto the working turntable, which was a treat to see. Only negative for me was the scenery wasn't over exciting, but the train & the stations were well worth it. The package we had included lunch after.

We had the time of our lives today on the trip up & back to Amamoor with Tanis the Driver, George the Guard, Brendon the Guest Experience Officer & the rest of the volunteers especially Kate (at the Gate) in the Coffee Shop. The company was great as was the Lunch served after the trip! Highly recommend this experience!

We had a great family day out on the Mary Valley Rattler steam train ride. Lovely staff & a relaxed atmosphere. Able to bring our own food & drinks too. We enjoyed our own spacious carriage with double windows that opened up to soak in the scenery.

👍👍 They have billboards along the road saying they are the the best pies in Queensland: after trying them I am forced to conclude they are correct. I had a meat lovers pie and it was great with lots of different meats. I got a value meal and the serving of chips was generous as too was the chicken salt...
