Small little museum that was interesting in the way of information. They gave out Coca candy and I ended up buying a small bag from family back home to taste. They had plenty of other gifts of coca to buy too. Most items were text or photos that were copyrighted so photos were not permitted. The little hall way up to the museum had vendors. Bathrooms available for free.

(Translated by Google) It's worth the visit. The best, original coca candy that makes your tongue numb and really makes a difference in altitude. (Original) Vale a pena a visita. A melhor bala de coca, original que deixa a língua dormente e realmente faz diferença na altitude.

Very small museum. Overall fairly interesting and informative, but the majority of the time you are just reading a book about the history of cocaine. The pictures on the wall and the weird manikins do very little to add to the experience. Thankfully it was only 15 Bs. because any more would not be worth it. One of the best parts of the whole time there is the Coca candy they give you which numbs your mouth and wakes you up a bit.

Nice small museum with plenty of information about Coca: origin, uses, traditions, nutrition data etc. Opened in 1997. Overall good for 15 bolivianos but would need to be renovated perhaps being more interactive. Pictures prohibited

One of must go places while in La paz. Very informative about culture and traditions of coca. Pretty small place packed with info about coca. Nice candy's at the front while you enter. After you finish you can get coca beer/tea etc. located not far from witches market. For 15bs can't go wrong. Enjoy

Slightly hard to find but worth the search. Great place to learn about the history of coca. The staff was friendly and the bathroom was clean.

Really interesting facts about coca!! And the coca candy you get to try at the beginning already makes this worth the trip. The staff is friendly and passionate. You should realise though that this is a museum which is politically aimed at legalising coca. As such, the information provided is clearly biased. Nonetheless, still worth the visit.

(Translated by Google) Small and messy museum. With multiple writing failures in the panels and incomplete and outdated information. It serves to understand the importance of coca in the culture of the country and provides some hints of interesting information. Nothing else. (Original) Museo pequeño y desordenado. Sirve para entender la importancia de la coca en la cultura del país y aporta algunas briznas de información interesante. Nada más.

This museum visit was quite insightful, interesting and informative. Thoroughly enjoyed learning about the history, uses (medicinal, cultural, social etc) and politics of the small but powerful Coca leaf. I encourage visitors to check it out.

Museo de la coca is a quite simple museum about the history of the coca plant and it's usage. Visitors get a little book in their preferred language as a guide through the museum. The main part of the museum are pictures and descriptions, but also some artifacts of coca based medicine and a detailed installation about cocaine production. One part wants to show the negative sides of cocaine, but it lacks of accuracy. Presenting pictures of (heroine) junkies with needles in their arms is a totally different story. I would have hoped to see a more modern and interactive presentation of the history of coca. The entry fee is 15 Bolivianos (April 2016) and you get a peace of coca liquorice at the entrance.

This is a skip. All the exhibits are in Spanish. It's basically two small rooms with a bunch of photos. For English readers, they give you a thick book full of text. It's extremely difficult to match the text to the actual exhibits. The book itself was falling apart, wrinkled, sticky and filthy. The man working was extremely strict with no photography. This even includes their gift shop and cafe. They had great coca drinks but he told us we weren't even allowed to take pictures of that after purchasing it. We couldn't have a memory here despite spending money... I hope the owners see this and relax their policy. No one bought anything when we there because of this...

Quite an interesting museum with very detailed information about coca leaves, history, traditions Definitely more interesting for Spanish-speaking people, as all explanation is in Spanish And as a foreigner, you'll get a book with lots of translations, so if you ok with that, you'll be fine The design of the building outside is soo beautiful too! So, at least check out this area!

Decent information, but pretty dated, small and not really conveyed well if you speak anything but Spanish.

A hidden gem in La Paz ! If you have but one thing to do in this city, absolutely go visit this warm and fascinating museum, it's crammed with interactive information, pictures and coca-leaf products that you can taste for an affordable price. I learned more about Bolivia in 1h of visit and a chat with the super friendly staff than I had in 4 days visiting La Paz.

It was an eye opening experience that left me wanting to learn more. Really, any worthwhile museum should engender that zeal for learning. This is a very worthwhile experience. Everything from the history of Coca to the chemistry of coca versus cocaine; to the little known fact that Coca Cola is still flavored with coca leaves... A trip to the Coca museum is a must!! By the way, the candies that they sell in the gift shop saved my life on my trek up el Misti, damn tasty too.

  • 5/5 Bianca F. 4 years ago on Google
Albeit a small museum it is a good excuse to remove yourself from the hustle and bustle of the streets while you learn about history of Coca in South america and how to actually chew/use the coca leaves properly. They cater to English speakers with a translated guide and the friendly gentleman behind me the counter offered my husband and I free coca lollies. Beware these lollies pack a punch and made my mouth numb. Put them under your tongue or in your cheek.

Very interesting! The exposition shows not only the history, traditions and habits of using coca, but the whole context which ingeniously links economical, environmental, political and other issues. I highly recommend to visit this place!

Wonderful museum, we learned so much!! Important info: the opening times are not always reliable; he told me 10-12.30 and 14-19 last week but opened 15.30 when we arrived today. So worth it!

A very informative museum on the history of the coca leaf and it's uses over the centuries. If you prefer English you can follow along with a book. I spent about two hours reading through the material. The ticket costs 18 BOB per person and can be paid only in cash. No credit card payment accepted.

Interesting, informative but small museum in the witches markets area in La Paz. We were asked to leave about 2pm-ish so they could close for lunch. They have a book in English to help you understand with the exhibits. Worth a look but a lot of reading material.

  • 4/5 Kismeth C. 4 years ago on Google
Small museum but offers a lot of history about coca leaves. It can be organized a bit better and incorporate more current information.

  • 3/5 Scott L. 5 years ago on Google
Offers English (and many other languages) booklets to follow along with the Spanish exhibits. Most of the exhibit however is simply photos and text. The cafe upstairs offers an interesting selection of foods and drinks with cocoa extract which are pretty good.

Was a very nice museum. Learnt so much more about the plant and it's meaning for the indigenous people. Also how western countries have still a big influence. However, you need to read a lot. At some point it was a bit too much.

It explains coca culture as a tradition of the Andean peoples, how it came to be commercialized - including by Coca Cola - even the reality of drugs. Anyway, it makes us reflect.
