Such an amazing experience! The museum and tunnels were closed, which we would have loved to be told upon purchasing our tickets. But it was still worth the 80 pesos. The signs are poorly translated to English and I think some graphs and illustrations would go a long way in helping one along the journey. Even so, it was so much more than what I expected and so interesting.

Great place to visit in Cholula (near Puebla). On a good day you can see the two volcanoes near by. Lots of history and beautiful ruins to enjoy. Head there early to beat the heat then head over to Cholula town center and a have a beautiful meal. Great day trip! One consideration: maybe look into having a guide give you a tour of the ruins, there is a lot of history here so that could help paint the most vivid picture.

It's a small site as not much was saved from the Spanish conquest. You can still get an idea of what the place used to look like in the past. There is also a small museum that you can visit with the ticket you buy to see the ruins.

I have mixed emotions about this place, first I have to admit I didn't know anything about it. The good Is a beautiful place at first look is a church on top of a hill, then you find out that the church is an top of a pyramid. The vew of the city and volcanoes I amazing.

Cholula and the archeological site are pure magic. There is nothing quite like seeing this in person, and the experience will stay with me for my lifetime.

We took a taxi from Puebla to visit Cholula. We first walked up the hill to visit the church and enjoy the spectacular views of the surrounding area. Very impressive. Then we visited the museum and walked the path around the ruins. The museum was small, but had nice displays. The ruins were interesting and we could only imagine how impressive the original pyramid must have been.

The Cholula Archaeological Zone marks the location of the pre-Conquest city and pilgrimage site. The pyramid there is considered the largest in Mexico, and stands now without its cladding. The pre-Contact city was sacked in 1519 by Cortes, his followers, and an army of Tlaxcala allies. Ancient Pyramid that lost its cladding. There is now a church on top. Passages can be explored, where you can see the different layers. Around the large mound, you can see the remains of temples. There is a large stone head and a an exquisite stele. The construction consists of loose material. It was the largest pyramid in Mexico. The location given is for the pyramid ruins.

The pyramid tunnel has been closed since 2020 and nobody knows why or when it will open. The church "Nuestra Señora de los Remedios" at the top is beautiful.

Great Place and absolutely impressive pyramid. Unfortunately we were not able to go inside due covid measurements. Traditional market on the ground plaza with a huge offer for souvenirs.

Lush, green and beautifully excavated. Fascinating colonial cathedral sitting atop the ancient step pyramid. Well maintained site with expansive lawns small but informative museum offerings. Well worth the not-too-long drive from CDMX/DF

Beautiful! Entrance fee reasonable (80 pesos) per adult, kids free. No card payment, only cash. I cannot wait for them to dig it all out! Then I will be back to see all of this beauty! Really outstanding, possibly the biggest pyramid of the world!

Great place to learn about pre-Hispanic Cholula and Puebla. 90 peso entrance and authorized guides are available in various languages for 350 pesos. Expect 1.5 hours for a guided tour

Amazing place honestly, each section has an information panel explaining what you are looking at. The way everything is still intact is amazing, towards the end you can climb the steps all the way up, when i went there was a mini dust storm so head up on that.

Zona arqueología surpassed our expectations. The archeological area is larger than we had anticipated, with informational boards explaining the history of it (there are also guides on site for an extra charge), well maintained and clean. Good for all ages!

Very cool place, a pyramid as big as teotihuacan that was mostly covered by the conquistadors and a beautiful church was built on top. Both the pyramid and the church are worth visiting and the views were amazing from the top. The artwork and sanctuary in the church were also beautiful

Lame. Tunnels are closed and probably never going to be reopened. You can pretty much see everything from outside the fence. I came with my husband 2 years ago and the entire place was closed so we walked around the entire property and saw literally the same thing we paid to see today. Now you can only walk around the outside. I wouldn’t have bothered trying to come again if I had known the tunnels were going to be closed. Don’t bring kids. They’ll hate waking around.

Amazing place! It’s my 3rd time here. However…. Google says it is open but it is not completely open. At this time (July 2021) the tunnels are still closed due to COVID. You cannot hike to the top where the church is except Friday to Sunday. You cannot walk up the exposed side of the pyramid which is toward the exits. You can only walk around the exposed side. Sad, sad, sad…. Just wait to come after COVID is over….

Going up to the church is a work out. But once you reach it, you see that it was all worth it. Very beautiful inside. The pyramid where the church seats on is the largest one to date in the world, do I was told. Around the pyramid you'll find a market place to Walk around and do some shopping, getting something to drink or eat. The weather in July is nice here.

You can walk to the top free of charge. The exhibits etc entrance is 80 pesos and at the moment 14.12.21 the tunnels and a few other parts are closed . Still well worth a visit.

Tiny town, the main attraction is a Catholic church that was built by the Spanish people over the Totecas Piramids ti impose the Catholic religion. Surrounded by a lot of local restaurants and bars. Good for a weekend.

San Pedro Cholula and San Andrea Cholula (yes, both are Cholulas) are part of the same area that surrounds the church and the archeological zone, the walk around the site is very quick and enjoyable, you can find markets for crafts and clothing and if course snacks (these can never be too many). I'll advise you to get parking in one of the parking lots (around $50mxn no time limit) and enjoy the views... Bonus points if you get by sunset so that you can appreciate the church and the Vulcano in the back .

Great to have a chance to see the large Cholula pyramid but site is not very well maintained and preserved. Some information provided along the path but confusing and basic when so much could be done to help navigate the different point of view (audio guide?). Tunnel is closed which is not great but visiting the nice regional museum located nearby really helps to understand the cultural context and the environement where was built the pyramid. Having said that most of the information is provided in Spanish with some in English but maybe 5% about all the exhibits. Both the pyramid and the museum are super affordable (270 MXN for 2 adults) and it was free for our 12 and 11 boys. Not perfect but definitely worth a stop

Just 20’minutes away from Puebla, is worth to come and visit Cholula. The archeological part is well organized and with a stunning view to the Popo Volcano. The views from the Santuário de la Virgen de los Remédios are breath taking and do not miss lunch at the Licoreria San Pedrito!

Beautiful site and unreal vantage point to see the entire valley. We were lucky enough to catch a storm from the church and a rainbow to tie it together. Daunting walk, but well worth it!

It is a beautiful place. I would give it 5 stars if the church was open. Lot 9f the churches were open but this one was closed due to covid, we were disappointed. This part of Cholula is very nice.

Being the largest pyramid in the world, it’s an archeologically significant place but I’m surprised that only a fraction of it has been excavated. Nevertheless, it’s one of the state of Puebla’s main tourist attractions.

  • 5/5 Jose Artemio Alva M. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful archeological zone. You'll get to see squirrels all around the zone and of course the remainings of a huge pyramid. The only downside is the tunnels are closed temporarily.

  • 4/5 René S. 2 years ago on Google
Good archeological site that is well worth a visit. Not as spectacular as many others, but still good to check out. (Entrance fee is 80 pesos.) The church on top of the mountain is currently only accessible from Friday to Sunday; ideally, plan your visit of this site accordingly so you can see both. I’m sure that the views towards Popocatépetl are breathtaking from there. Yet, the time you may have left from your trip is also good for a visit in town. If you’d want to get to Puebla for free afterwards, check the schedule of the train that’s nearby the ruins. Currently, a train runs three times a day…

Beautiful walk up there. The views all around were amazing. Definitely going back in the future. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Ana M. 4 years ago on Google
Not to miss. The town is gorgeous! Is a must visit. The pyramid is hidden so it is cool to walk across the tunnels inside the mountain. The view of the church is also very nice. Walk around the side so you get to see the ruins and the pyramid. If you are claustrophobic, this might not be your place because the tunnels are narrow.

  • 4/5 Raghu V. 1 year ago on Google

Climbed the ramp to the top. There is a nice view of the surrounding city. There have been forest fires, so the volcanoes were not visible. I went to see evidence of the pyramid, but only a small section is exposed at the bottom. Hard to imagine this as a pyramid!

  • 5/5 John M. 1 year ago on Google
Absolutely amazing, the largest Pyramid is the world? I believe it, it's massive. I'm so glad it's being retired for future generations.

  • 4/5 Amjad E. 1 year ago on Google
Not worthy for 85 pesos .. but the woman who cleans know much about the arqueologic history of the place more than those who work in higher position.. and hurt check the validation of the ticket..

  • 3/5 Fabrizio S. 9 months ago on Google
It looks awesome! The largest pyramid in the world.. the issue is Catholics.. not only they built a hideous church on top of the pyramid, but the locals just can't stop using fireworks right next to your face.. so I recommend going only for a little bit and DEFINITELY NOT ON SUNDAYS

Had a super low key wedding ceremony here during the pandemic. Many areas were closed but we were able to climb on the pyramid for a while before we were kicked out. I recommend going around back to be able to climb up higher on the stairs without paying.

  • 4/5 Dawid G. 5 months ago on Google • 85 reviews
4/5 because I appreciate ruins and history but the organisation or facilities could be better. Firstly, the tickets are only for the area around the base on the pyramid. The entrance to the top (the church) is free. Secondly, when you buy the tickets and leave the ticket office, the first stop (museum) is not clearly indicated. Someone had to tell us to turn around to spot it (it's on the left, down the stairs, opposite way than the rest of the archaeological area. The museum is old but informative. Thirdly, the area itself has nice toilets by the entrance and many signs/tourist information spotted around the complex, but, again, they are a bit old rundown.
