I guess our family is not that into modern art. Although we think you have to be lucky with the temporary exhibition as well. We arrived in the pooring rain and went out in a bit of sunshine. All by all, a good combination: visit the museum first, then let your mind wander at the nearby seaside.

Nice modern museum located right by the sand dunes. The interestingly shaped interior makes for interesting rooms. One of the three exhibits, digital art by Refik Anadol, was absolutely amazing and a must-see. We spent 20 minutes in front of the artwork . Also, do allow time to taste the amazing food in the cafe. After your visit, take a stroll to the nearby beach.

Excellent, incredible and lovely. The museum is lovely combination of modern art and nature. The cafe has unbelievable view to the sea, the landscape is very unique. Cafe offers nice selection of cold food (no warm dishes) which i think makes sense - it's really to avoid the smells of the kitchen in the museum. There are also benches and tables in the cloakroom where one can eat their own food. The art pieces are meaningful, unlike other modern art exhibitions. Also the permanent exhibitions are still relevant and interesting. I highly recommend to visit and revisit! The only downside is getting to the museum by public transport. Without a car it takes at least an hour!

Went to Arken to see Refik Anadol’s exhibition, which was interesting and stimulating to see. We were not impressed with the rest of the art, and felt there were too many half empty walls and halls. The building is beautiful, but the exhibition was pricey for what it was.

Cool museum but not that much to see. There are a few expositions and we did have a great time but we spend a lot less time then we expected prior to visiting. The building itself is also very cool to watch.

Very interesting modern art museum located about 30 mins outside of Copenhagen city. There are also free artwork pieces located in various outdoor locations around the park outside of museum as well. Well worth a visit if you have time.

Refik Anadol video art was pretty good but everything else was junk ARKEN Museum of Modern Art is surrounded by a manmade beachscape, 30 minutes south of Copenhagen. "The museum showcases one of Scandinavia’s finest collections of contemporary art. The young architecture student, Søren Robert Lund, surprised the establishment by winning the design competition with a Deconstructivist design, which resembled a giant beached ship."

The space is very well designed with intentionality that enables the curators of the museum to create beautiful spaces to enjoy the work. Make sure that you budget additional time to see the outdoor spaces!

I wasn't sure if even writing a review is worth the time for this place. If you live nearby perhaps a visit to the café is fine, but don't go out of your way for this museum. At least I felt I didn't get much value at all from the time visiting here.

A great museum with very accessible art for all ages. The sculpture park surrouding the museum is also interesting. If it is good weather it is fun to follow the 'arkenwalk' from the train station where a series of twisted street lights made by artist Jeppe Hein shows the way to the museum. The cafe is also good.

Must visit if you visited Copenhagen, take train from center to Ishoj and take the bus for 15 mins to Ishoj beach. The exhibition changes every few months, so you better check their instagram for recent update on exhibition.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Arken Art Museum in Ishøj. I was captivated by its modern architecture and scenic location by the sea. Arken boasts a diverse and thought-provoking collection of contemporary art. The museum's curatorial choices showcased a perfect blend of established and emerging artists, providing a unique and enriching experience. The location of the Arken Art Museum is truly breathtaking. Situated by the sea, the museum offers stunning panoramic views that add an extra layer of beauty to the experience. It's a truly memorable day trip.

It’s a lovely building. But it all depends on the exhibitions. It’s quiet a long walk from the train. There is a bus that goes sometimes. Louisiana is better in all aspects.

Stunning location, very calm surroundings and the museum itself is amazing. Friendly and helpful staff. Great experience and I would definitely recommend going at least once, and take a walk till the beach. They also have variety of yearly cards and discounts 🤩

Amazing museum with lots to see and do. Perfect for the whole family and the exhibitions are always interesting and new. It’s also located in a very nice place outside of the city with a big beach nearby.

Great modern art museum. Really pushes the boundaries of what art is. It's not a big museum so I usually spend 1-2 hours depending on exhibition.

Amazing saw a kestrel in the nature reserve. Great sculpture garden. Loved the Leonora Carrington, very surreal and stimulating. Myths and fairy tales brought to life.

It is an amazing museum and Leonora Carrington is even more. We walking from the train station to the museum, and be would have liked a few more signposts near the station to show us the way.

A beautiful and fun place to go! The ticketing staff and the security staff were really nice. The security staff even offered to take our picture in front of the artwork and we had a small chat together. A memorable experience!

We totally loved this museum of modern art close to Copenhagen. The collection of art was well arranged and highlighted some not so mainstream artists that you don’t find everywhere in the world. Also the Location and architecture of the museum already are an attraction!

Just an amazing museum, the architecture is amazing, the surroundings are absolutely beautiful located just near the water and beach area. There is a nice little playground and café nearby, but the museum has its own excellent café as well. Def worth a visit, but I think you need to take a car there or a taxa from the closest trainstation. Or you can walk there, maybe a couple of kilometers.

Some beautiful and interesting exhibits of you're into modern art. Make sure you check the dates for the vareous current exhibits so you don't end up going in the interim periods when they're setting up the next ones and keep parts closed off.

Didn’t like the exhibition’s but the museum is AMAZING. The building, the rooms, bathroom, cafe, store… the gardens, the beach. Absolutely LOVED

  • 5/5 Mikołaj W. 2 years ago on Google
Definitely it's worth to see the collection. In such well-thought-through building and secluded location you'll feel great immersion in those often thought-provoking places. Give it a try if you can

Beautiful location of the musem, a great place to go on a bike trip along the coast. There were 2 main exibitions and some piece of arts in the main area. The musuem is not so big. However, it was not too crowded.

The place where the museum is located is amazing, specially on a sunny day. The museum itself is not so big and that let's you enjoy the exhibitions calmly, without stressing out about how much you need to see. If you are not that fan of this type of art I would still recommend enjoying the location!

The youngest member of the family had a great time in the “børnehus”. Here it was possible to take part in different projects that mirrored the current exhibition.

If you love or are interested in paintings or modern art you will love this place very much. You can spend an entire day in here. If you are not into painting, then just spend couple of hours and then you can take a walk round the museum and go to the nearby beach.
