A lovely park in Copenhagen. A must see if you’re visiting the city. Free admission. A perfect place for jogging, or just a walk. This park is full of birds. Incredibly clean.

A must visit site in Copenhagen. Be sure to go with good weather and allow a couple of hours to walk around the site. The path around the top is a relaxing stroll and provides for beautiful views. I’d highly recommend visiting. The site was actually recommended to me by locals.

This was one of my favorite places i have seen during my trip in Copenhagen, perfect to chill go for a relaxing walk. It’s an old fortress, which is still active and used to this day, you will be able to enter for free and see the all the Citadel, the old windmill, the many cannons spread across the star-shaped island. It’s perfect for a walk and if you are already planning to see the little mermaid, it’s like 100 meters away and you can’t miss out on this spot.

Kastellet, located in the heart of Copenhagen, is a captivating historical citadel that transports visitors back in time with its well-preserved architecture and serene ambience. The fortress, dating back to the 17th century, boasts stunning pathways enveloped by lush greenery, creating a tranquil atmosphere perfect for a leisurely stroll. Its star-shaped design and imposing ramparts reflect a rich military heritage, while the surrounding moat adds to its picturesque allure. So many beautiful views - from the beautiful greenery from the rampart to the colourful buildings within the fortress. Definitely worth the time taking a stroll through this place. Many attractions, such as the little mermaid statue, are also located near this place.

Worth walking for an hour to see this beautiful landscape. Much more spectacular in person. The windmill is a great little structure, grounds are kept excellent lovely nature - autumn walk around here was really nice 🍂 going into the grounds you had these little army men banging their guns on the ground seeking attention from little girls - other than that I enjoyed the stroll.

A "must have" if you are in Copenhagen 🌟🚀 It is an old fortress that is currently used by the military but is still allowed access to the public. As can be seen from the published photos, the place is enchanting, everything is taken care of to perfection. Nothing to say, really nice to see and great for a walk 🚶🏻‍♂️🚶‍♀️ It is located near Copenhagen's famous Little Mermaid 🧜🏻‍♀️ I recommend admiring the mill, a show 😍

Really peaceful place. Can feel the tranquility. Good place for a walk or for a run. There are 2 entrances. A wind mill and old buildings. Can get the feeling of past centuries.

Was on the way to see the little mermaid and ended up spending more time roaming around this fortress with the interesting shape. First, I thought it was an inaccessible military personale only area. Then I saw other civilians walking right in, so I just followed and walked passed the guards on duty. Nice and comfortable walk in the area

Accidentally came upon this place after checking out the little mermaid. I was randomly walking to rush out to recharge my dying phone and ended up on top of the citadel and was overlooking the moat that's surrounding it. The view from the top is beautiful and amazing if it hadn't been raining so hard. I wish the weather had been much better because it's a nice place to just relax and maybe have a picnic or a walk on a date.

Nice place to have a walk around. Good for burning off lunch. Interesting buildings. Much renovation happening in November 2021 when we visited. Really cool windmill.

It's a beautiful park / fortress. You can walk the perimeter or transverse through the middle where there are some colorful buildings. The yellow church is open for visitors, though there is not much to do inside other than look around. If I lived here I would visit it frequently!

This fortress is an absolutely lovely place for a quiet walk in the city. Admission is free, there are public restrooms, and there is even a small playground on the lower side of the moat. I spent a relaxing morning here, strolling, snacking and playing with my kids.

An old fortress turned current military base. It's a nice place to visit in the morning since many/all attractions don't open until 10 AM. Would recommend walking through the star-shaped island where one can also walk along the perimeter to see the windmill and cannons, the beautifully painted buildings, and the goldenrod-hued church

A must go when in Copenhagen. Gorgeous scenery and great to walk around. The Little Mermaid statue is close by so it’s good to do the two things the same day.

Really nice relaxing area to walk round on route to the Mermaid Statue. There's even a windmill, beautiful church and various swans, geese and ducks. I would recommend if you have time.

It was so peaceful to walk in the area. Although the place is actually military barracks, but it is also connected to some parks and good for leisure or jogging.

So cute recreational park developed from the castle area with beautiful church and interesting history. It is nice to read more about the area and see the real guards with guns standing there 24/7. The park is very nice and you get to see the bunkers and the holes for cannons. Also cute windmill there. Lots of people jogging and walking dogs and I bet in summer it is nice place for picnic. Did not manage to go into the church but it is stunning from the outside already!

It was kind of difficult to go all around to get in, but it's has a diversity of wild birds on the side of the lake, that just made me enjoy the ride

Lovely circular walk around the grass mounds and an interesting walk through the rows of the citadel, on the return through to the little mermaid. Unfortunately, we visited on a foggy day and missed the United Nations exhibition by approx 5 mins. Closed at 15:00.

This as absolutely worth a walk. A beautiful and well maintained spot in Copenhagen with some nice old buildings. This is also good for jogging, so if you stay in the vicinity, then visit this place. There is no ticket required.

Right time, right place... Festival of the 375 anniversary of the Second Northern War. Impressive, historical and something totally unexpected. The roaring of the cannons lured us in and we didn't regret it... not at all!

Really nice quiet place to visit in Copenhagen. There is no entrance fee (but there are opening hours), so you can just come, stroll along and admire the fortresses.

  • 2/5 B B. 2 years ago on Google
Not worth the walk. There were a lot of builders active on the site. The walk on the walls was not as nice as I hoped it would be. A quick look inside is enough.

Visited Kastellet in Copenhagen, and it's a gem! The historic fortress offers picturesque surroundings and a peaceful atmosphere. The well-preserved grounds and iconic windmill make for a delightful stroll. Perfect spot for history buffs and a leisurely day out. Highly recommend!

Good for a small walk, as for "strongholm" - really nothing to see, it's more like a barracks.

If you are little disappointed about The Little Mermaid statue I recommend to See a Kastelet star-shaped Island with all the military buildings and fortifications on it.

This place goes back to seventeenth century. The scenery is fantastic. A great place to have outdoor run or even sit down and relax. There is a windmill on the top with old cannons around. Be careful visiting during the night as there is poor lighting in the area.

I am reviewing the park surrounding Kastellet. This is a relaxing cooling zen park to explore and roam. A perfect area to walk, bring your dog for a stroll. The peacefulness within the park is just zen. The breeze from the wind makes it great too. A wonderful to stroll to take before reaching the Little Mermaid Statue.

Nicely landscaped fortress near the little mermaid statue. If you visit the little mermaid, this is quite easy walk from there. Does not take lot of time to walk around. Water fountain was switched off during spring time. We visited in April during Easter holidays.

Well worth a visit with a tour guide. This area has a very interesting history and to understanding the context of how it was developed you really need a tour guide to get the most out of what you can see. Highly recommended for the whole family.

I absolutely love visiting this fortress. It is very well kept and organized. Get a great place to go for a walk and also learn about the different history of this place also not far from the little mermaid. Since this is a fortress there is still active military duty on base here you will see them guarding the gates. The church is currently under renovation. Just be careful of the parking and make sure you pay the parking or you will get a ticket quickly

A big park to go round all of 5 swings of star, good location for excercise. A lot of people in early morning here. Peaceful place in the middle of busy city.

If you’re into gardens and casual stroll’s, you’ll love it. Very pretty star shaped fort surrounded by star shaped lake and big shady, whispery trees. There’s a pretty windmill and elevated walking paths with an old, petite military presence in the middle.
