A typical temple of Tamilnadu located on a verdant hill and visited by scores of fervent pilgrims. The ghat route to the temple, though not long, is through a thick green cover of huge trees and a cool breeze. The well located temple needs to be well managed also by keeping neat and clean.

Beautiful temple in the top of Alagar hill... It's one of the six holiest abodes of Murugan, Pazhamuthicholai where Murugan standing with valli and devvanai... We need to pay 50rs if we are bringing our own car... Bus facility is also available from Azhagar Koil... Cost of ticket is Rs.10 for single trip... It is believed that this is where the Lord Murugan disguised himself as a boy and tested the Tamil Poet Avvaiyar... The temple for the Lord Vishnu, the alagar temple is nearby... “Arunagirinathar has sung Thriupugazh on this temple”. This place is also called as Solaimalai. The Lord Murugan here is called as Vetrivel Murugan. The name Pazhamudircholai means “the fruit orchard”. For more details check out youtube channel "Priya Raj"

Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple. Visited this month. Had a pleasant Darshan. History: Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is located about 25 km from Madurai. The temple is one of the six holy abodes of Lord Muruga, popularly known as Arupadaiveedu. The temple is located in a dense forest on the top of solaimalai hill, about 4 Kms from Azhagar temple. Devotees visit the temple for marriage boon, child boon and educational excellence. When their wishes come true, they perform milk abhishekam and offer Vastra to the Lord. Among the six abodes of the lord, this is the only temple where the idol of the presiding deity graces the devotees, with his consorts on either side. As per legend, Pazhamudircholai is the holy place where Lord Murugan enacted a divine play with the Tamil poetess and scholar Avvaiyar who was an ardent devotee of the Lord. Once Avvaiyar came to rest under the shade of a tree. Realizing that she was tired, Lord Muruga, in disguise as a small boy, was sitting on the tree. He asked her if she would like to have some fruits to eat. When Avvaiyar agreed, the boy inquired if she wants roasted or unroasted fruit. Avvaiyar smiled at the child’s innocence about the non existence of roasted (sutta Pazham) and unroasted (sudatha pazham) fruits. However she chose to have unroasted fruit to please the little boy. The Lord shook the tree branches, for the fruits to fall. Avvaiyar picked up a fruit and blew off the sand on the fruit. The boy playfully asked her if she was blowing to cool down the roasted fruit since it was hot. Avvaiyar was surprised to see the instantaneous wit of the boy and beseeched him to let her know who he was. It was then that the boy revealed his true identity as Lord Muruga. The name ‘Pazhamudicholai’ (Pazham-fruit, udir-fall, cholai-grove) is believed to have gained its name from the above incident. The temple’s sthala vriksha is rose apple tree. Unlike the rose apple trees that usually yields fruits in the month of july to september, the tree in Pazhamudircholai yields fruits that ripen only in the month of Aippasi(October/November).

The architecture of Pazhamudhircholai Murugan Temple is captivating. The entrance gopuram is adorned with intricate carvings depicting various episodes from Hindu mythology. As one enters the temple complex, the soul-stirring chants and the fragrance of incense create a reverential atmosphere that prepares devotees for their encounter with the deity. The sanctum sanctorum houses the idol of Lord Murugan, resplendent and adorned with garlands and jewels. The serene expression on the face of the deity evokes a sense of peace and divine grace.

Pazhamudircholai Murugan temple is One of the six holiest adobes of Lord Murugan. It is also known by the name Solaimalai Murugan Temple. This temple is situated 19kms from the temple town of Madurai. This Shrine is located on the northern outskirts of Madurai in a pleasant wooded hill. The idol of Lord Muruga in a standing posture has a single face and four hands with Valli and Devanai on both sides. The vel made up of stone has a significant importance and worshiped with a great veneration by devotees. . The sthala Viruksha is a rose apple tree. The fruits of this tree ripen during Skanda Sasti festival. There is a powerful sacredness here, owing to the three things the temple is famous for; a small stone vel, a java plum tree where saint Auvaiyar met lord Murugan , and a spring hailed in saint Nakkirar’s poem as a source of Murugan grace on planet 🌍 Earth. _____________________________________________

Full positive vibes around the temple. One of the 6 padai veedu for Lord Murugan. Place where Lord Murugan had a conversation with Avaiyar for having sutta palam venduma sudadha palam venduma. Epic historic story happened here. We had a chance to see Abisegam which cost 500₹ they made to sit very nearby and given milk for Abisegam. Such a divine temple and powerful. Temple is small you can finish within 15-20mins maximum. You can either trek or come on vehicles. From alagar temple buses are available on timing basis. Lord Murugan bless you all ❤️

Every needy information is available on Google regarding the temple. Personally i felt peaceful ambience there in the middle of the forest and hill. Also would request the concerned authorities to lay good road and maintain it properly as they collect tolls to go upside to the hill through vehicles.

Visited 2nd time after nearly 10-12 yesrs and found more devotees than before and the temple renovated and surroundings cleaner than before. We had great darshan at a close distance and entire visit was over in 30 mins as its a small temple on a small hill which can be reachrd by car/bus with good parking facility. Down the way got down at famous very old Jamoon tree where Avvai Patti was asked by Lord Murugan the famous question " சுட்ட பழம் வேண்டுமா, சுடாத பழம் வேண்டுமா?". Beware of Monkeys. They snatch anything from you if careless. A very satisfying spiritual visit.👍

Arulmigu solaimalai murugan temple is located about 25KM from North of Madhurai, also, pazhamudircholai is a fertile hill, blessed with nature's bounty in the form of innumerable fruits, vegetables and natural springs. It is a dense forest where Valli is supposed to have lived. The temple itself is relatively small with Valli, Deivayanai, and Lord Muruga in a separate shrine. Lord Ganesha is also present in a separate shrine. There is a Temple Tower and monkeys play around the area. There is another small temple above Pazhamudhir Cholai where local tribes lead their lives.

It’s one of the Arupadai Veedu and comparatively smaller than the other 5 Arupadai Veedu but the vibe which we get here is so good! The shrine is located on a small hill after Kal Alagar Temple and both public and private transportation is available. We need to pay 50rs if we are bringing our own car and there are different types of Pooja’s available and we need to pay for special poojas.

Arulmigu Solaimalai Murugan Temple situated around 25 kms from Madurai city nestled between dense forest atop a hill. Considered one of the 6 abodes of Lord Muruga. Temple has provision of separate paid darshan lines. Connected by local transport from Madurai city. There is a green tax that needs to be paid at the foothill / entrance towards the temple. Careful with the huge platoons of monkeys that are present at every nook and corner of the road till you reach the temple and around the temple. Don't miss the pineapple, raw mango sold by the local people..

This Lord Murugan temple is seriously awesome! You can actually sit really close to the god and pray in peace. And let me tell you, the god is so beautiful and has this amazing image. I was super duper happy when I saw it! At the end of the day, after this special prayer thing called "palliyarai pooja," the main priest (Iyer) talks to the god about all the money stuff - like how much they spent and how much they made that day. It's like he's telling the god everything right to his face! It feels like the god is actually listening, like a king or something. It's such an incredible feeling, I can't even explain it! You absolutely have to visit this temple to experience that wonderful feeling. I totally recommend it to everyone who wants to make their wishes to Lord Murugan. You can reach the temple by either your own vehicle or the temple's vehicle. And let me tell you, the temple is surrounded by mountains and it feels like you're in heaven!

Atop a hill covered with lush greenery and dense forests lies one of the six divine abodes of Lord Muruga, The Pazhamudircholai Murugan. Also known as Solaimalai Murugan Temple, It is Twenty-five kilometers to the north of Madurai, India, and stands only two and a half kilometers away from the Vishnu temple of Azhagar Kovil. It is said that the Azhagar Kovil was the original home to the main deity of this temple, and the deity was later relocated to Pazhamudircholai during Thirumalai Nayak’s rule in Madurai. For ages, the Vel, which is the weapon of Lord Muruga’s primary weapon Vel(an ancient spear), which was crafted and handed over to Lord Muruga by goddess Parvati is worshipped as the presiding deity in the shrine. As per the Hindu mythology, Lord Murugan split the demon king Surapadman in half with the Vel during their vicious battle. Being the only temple amongst the six holy abodes where Lord Murugan blesses his devotees along with both his consorts, he stands along with Goddess Valli and Devayani. The famous Tamil poet Nakkeerarm mentioned Solaimalai in his Tamil Poem Tirumurukaatruppadai. Though it is sixth among the Arupadaiveedugal(the six abodes), in terms of visitors, it still attracts plenty of devotees all over the world with its soothing charm and the lush green flora-fauna that surround the temple. History Behind the Temple The foundation of the main temple was laid by Cheaman Perumal, a ruler of Kerala in the 7th Century AD. Though the temple dates back to more than a millennium, the temple as in existence today was constructed in recent memory. In ancient times, only the Vel was worshipped as the main deity. Earlier, only a stone carved Vel, the spear of Lord Muruga, was kept in Pazhamudircholai. Later on, a wood idol of Muruga standing with his consorts, Valli and Deivanai were added. Avvaiyar was a renowned and legendary Tamil poetess and a name behind one of the most famous and appreciated works ever written in Hindu folklore. Her exceptional vocabulary and dexterity in the language made her works stand apart, in the list of even the greatest of the poets. This had started to make her audacious over her abilities. According to the pages drenched in the antiquity of the Hindu folklore, Lord Murugan who was well-versed with his devotee wanted to teach her a lesson and took the shape of a ten-year-old boy in here in Solaimalai. After having achieved everything in her life, Avviayar was resting under a Naaval tree, trying to figure out what lied next for her. A small boy appeared out of nowhere and stood on the tree. The boy asked Avviayar if she would like some fruits. Driven by hunger and thirst, she agreed instantly. The boy asked if she wanted a hot fruit or a cold one, which confused Avviayar but was tired to argue and opted for the cold one. Smilingly, the boy shook the tree, as many fruits fell, all of which were collected by her. The fruits were coated with the sand, so Avviayar blew them to remove it. The boy asked innocently, why was she trying to cool down the fruit blowing, which was already cold. This incident left Avviayar humbled by the clever wordplay and the poetic knowledge of the little boy. However, She was skeptical of the boy’s true identity which was revealed to her as Lord Murugan himself. She bowed to the almighty and requested him to bestow her with his bountiful knowledge, for she had realized the power of infinite learning. She sought Lord Murugan’s blessings and embarked on her quest for endless knowledge. The Story of Muruga Lord Muruga, is considered as the chief deity by many Tamils all over the world. His story is even elaborated in the largest Mahapurana called Skanda Purana. Muruga, also known as Skanda or Kartikeya and is considered the god of love and war. Legend says that the celestial gods asked Lord Vishnu for help after being tortured and tormented by the demon King Surapadman. He assigned Kamadeva to awake Lord Shiva from the state of deep tapas. This led to the birth of Lord Murugan with the sole purpose of finishing Surapadman and putting an end
