The National is a brunch spot with great food & not too crazy of prices. They do have vegetarian friendly options. They had a decent drink menu too, complete with a bloody (though I didn't personally imbibe.) The only complaint I had was the service was a little confusing. You order from your seat on your phone or from the counter. Unfortunately for the couple neighboring us who went to the counter, their seats were taken by another group (though given back quickly after an apology for the misunderstanding) Also it looked like there was a refill station for water and coffee but it wasn't super clear if that was for anyone to use or for servers. A sign or someone letting us know that was up for anyone to use would be appreciated. Very minor snags overall to a great brunch spot

Decent restaurant, I was very pleased with the vegan options! I ordered the vegan breakfast sandwich (in the picture) and found it to be very good! I loved the fact that it was coupled with a cup of fruit, which was equally tasty! I ordered coffee and found it to be on the cooler end, so if you get coffee here just make sure it’s fresh! I also didn’t want the music playing in the background but that was okay as well! Overall I was pleased with this place and recommend it to anyone looking for different vegan food!

Great spot for breakfast, lunch or brunch. We've visited twice, tried a few dishes and everything has been awesome, and friendly service. They have lots of healthy and hearty options - many dishes are vegetarian and several are vegan. The chorizo burrito is shown here "regular" (with eggs) and "vegan" (no eggs, soy chorizo instead of meat). We both loved it. Son also enjoyed his vegetable "all American" (in background).

Super cute cafe in 5th ward. Great for a date, outing with friends, or just stopping for a coffee. May not be the best for working remote - not a lot of outlets and limited seating. The breakfast sandwich was good. I probably wouldn’t get it with spinach again though. It left a chalky feel on my teeth after eating it. The latte was SO good. The French toast was some of the best I’ve ever had. It wasn’t too sweet and the texture was right on. So tasty 😋

Excellent place to get breakfast and good coffee! My usual is the All American and an iced vanilla latte. Breakfast at The National is phenomenal, I highly recommend. The All American is a simple plate but very delicious. They serve some of the best breakfast potatoes in town! Do not hesitate to stop by!

Yum! I randomly discovered this place and so glad I did! They have a good variety of fresh food options along with great tea/coffee. You may have to wait a little for your food, but it's worth it. The atmosphere is so cozy and it's not too loud inside. I look forward to returning!

Had the BLT&A... AMAZING! The chips and dip were very good also. Will definitely order again. Edit: I have ordered here now several times and I must say, they apparently have a great person preparing the food sometimes and then a rather lazy person others. Today is again one of several orders I am rather disappointed with. Bread isn't toasted (which it usually always is), it's plain white bread, not the typical bread, it isn't cut, and I ordered chips and received fruit. Perhaps you shouldn't decide since it's an EatStreet order it isn't important and prepare your food to the same standards each time. Today's is very disappointing. blah.

I wish I could give it 10 stars! We love this place so very much! The food is FANTASTIC! Very fresh and tasty. Love Love Love. Cute place as well. We happened to be walking by and someone opened the door and the smell literally drew us right in! It was absolutely wonderful! 'The hotmess' was super wonderful- only available Saturday or Sunday and we LOVE the Rice bowl- there are flavors that don't sound like they should go together- but they are outstanding. Addicted!

Cute trendy spot with delicious vegetarian options on the menu! I had the slider croissant sandwich, Mexican mocha and a side of potatoes- super delicious!! Staff was very friendly and attentive. Limited seating, should plan on getting there earlier or call ahead to check wait time. Positive experience overall!

The food was good and tasty but service was okay. We ordered house coffee but we didn't know we need pour that ourself so we were sitting and waiting that is fine but there were no mugs , we saw our neighbor table folks pouring coffee then we asked for mug. The thing which bothered us most was that they were preparing roasted potatoes for next day probably. They kept the whole tray on the counter and the staff keep coming and eating potatoes from the same tray from which they would be serving next day. Also the food takes good 30-40 minutes to come so prepare yourself accordingly.

We frequent local coffee shops. This place is where I had my favorite latte ever! Such a cute atmosphere and great-tasting food! Go here for a fabulous time.

Visiting Wisconsin we were impressed to find so many vegan options. We stopped by The National Cafe for an early breakfast and were pleased to find such an adorable cafe, that smelled of fresh baked goods, serving (what we would later find out to be) delicious breakfast options. Food was great, coffee was strong, and service was with a smile! Definitely check this cute place out.

This coffee spot was clean and staff were friendly. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and a cubano coffee. The coffee was absolutely amazing. I ordered a second one! Highly recommend the cubano coffee with a hint of honey

First time there, we arrived around noon and waited for a table for about 10-15 minutes. The place is nice and welcoming, staff are friendly and helpful. They use QR code for their menu and you pay ahead. They started bringing our food almost immediately, croissant from Rocket Baby 🤤 two mugs for self-service Anodyne coffee ☕️ and our food from the Brunch menu: Hot mess with bacon 🥓 and avocado 🥑 American Sliders 🍳 🍞 🥓 . All very tasty.

We arrived and the place was full, which isn't a problem. Noone greeted us, or even acknowledged our presence for 20 minutes or so. This is a order yourself type of place, so we weren't really put off by this either. However, no attempt was being made to turn tables, and customers were allowed to hold tables despite being done with meals. This made for an awkward situation, hovering over tables waiting for a group to leave. Once we did get a table, we ordered. I had the Hot Mess (only available weekends) and it was incredible, while my wife had a potato and chorizo burrito, which she said had very little flavor. We each had a bloody mary, which were quite good. Overall, we'd probably go back, but we have other options that we prefer.

Food was a joke. I found hair wrapped around my French toast. The plastic cups for water are filthy and have black stuff. I had to ask for to go cups just to get water. The silverware is dirty and has a film on it. I was able to scratch off whatever was on the silverware. I had to ask for plastic ware to go just to eat my food. They need to take cooking lessons because their food was missing a lot of flavor. Very bland. Never going here again or recommend to anyone.

Me and my friend drove from Illinois to this restaurant. We arrived at 1:30 pm. on Saturday, Sep 16th and right away they said we are closing in 30 minutes so if you are ordering anything it needs to be to go. By the time we got the food at 1:45 p.m. and we left and there was still guests in the lobby. The cold pumpkin coffee they made my friend was completely disgusting. Also, they didn’t give us the potatoes that the sandwich came with and still charged full price. We will never go back here again.

I really enjoy their full English breakfast. The bacon is delectable. You order on your phone which is great for people who’d rather not interact an awful lot with others during a pandemic.

I now see why this place is rated so highly. Unlimited amazing coffee. I got a very full portion of full flavor food (that’s a good thing in my book) and I had the option of ordering from my seat. If I ever come back to Milwaukee, this is on the short list to revisit.

One of my favorite little gems of Milwaukee. From the outside it just looks like your average little Milwaukee shop. As soon as you step in the atmosphere is cozy and almost straight out of Instagram. But the best part is the FOOD. You can tell they put a lot of work into making the food perfect, especially the breakfast. ?❤️

Fantastic little patio out back, had five small round tables most with umbrellas. No mosquitoes, plenty of breeze, and birds. Delightful. Food was excellent, large portion. Drinks- chai tea was very tasty, not too sweet. Their special lemonade was very sweet, almost hard to drink. The fruit on the side was very fresh and tasty. They are accommodating with simple requests. I don't know if they offer a specific children's menu, however there is plenty to chose from, where you could share. Will be back.

I ordered breakfast for 3 as a birthday gift. It was delivered fast and hot. I loved the stuffed french toast. It came with fresh fruit, maple syrup, yum. Also eggs with bacon and toast. They really read my requests for extra butter and the way I wanted my eggs. Highly recommend this place. .

The ambiance and service is very nice and relaxing in here. It tends to get full during the lunch rush and weekends. The food is on the expensive side but it's delicious, the vegan options are great! Their zucchini muffin and White Mocha coffee are my favorite options there. Do recommend.

Great little breakfast and coffee spot. I loved the vegan huevos rancheros with legendary and local Simple Soyman tofu. Whether you're a biker or a hippie, you'll feel at home here.

Funky little place with great staff and fantastic food. The potato & chorizo burrito is amazing!! The tomato soup was fresh with a very smooth texture. I didn’t have room for dessert...that will have to be next time! Can’t wait to get back here.

Solid tea, breakfast, coffee etc. Quaint and refreshing. We were passing through. No kids menu, but they were happy to customize for my daughter and the food was impressive. Great service.

Starting with a base rating of there stars, this place gets another star for great food, another for charming atmosphere, and yet another for serving Anodyne coffee. So... A six star rating? I'm only allowed five...

The vegan options I tried are the regular food options, they just charge you more and take out the non vegan ingredients. The French toast was perfect. They used paper instead of plastic which is great?

The food was delicious. I ordered the Hot Mess. I paid extra for the fancied up potatoes bit there didn't seem to be a big difference for the price. The coffee was strong and flavorful. The atmosphere had a cozy retro vibe. The staff wasn't super friendly but the overall experience was nice.

Im not saying it's not worth a try, really good flavors and a fun menu selection. You need time as orders took a while which made it kinda awkward for groups. There was a long hair in my dish and irrelevant but; stickers are advertisement for this type of establishment, they shouldn't charge people for them. Just seemed off.

The food is always phenomenal and honestly one of the best brunches you can get in the city in terms of flavor. The bloody isn't much to write home about, yet not "bad" per se but the food and atmosphere is really what just keeps bringing me back.
