It's a beautiful old palace property built in 1905. It's right in the city but you don't feel like it because of the trees all around the house. The staff is polite and very helpful. Thank you.

Beautiful property. Staff is exceptionally professional and keen to make the stay comfortable. But they can definitely work on adding few toiletries to the washrooms and provide better towels. A little more variety in english breakfast too will be appreciated.

Pristine Heritage Hotel in the Midst of Greenery and with the most peaceful atmosphere i have ever seen. Still maintained in its originality this hotel belongs to a bygone era that would have allowed you to sip tea in the verandah as your hound lay by your feet and you read the Morning Paper. The Shumshere has big airy rooms that have the original architecture big winding staircases and upholstery done by the Master Sewer of The Buckingham Palace. Not open to all but a Select Clientele that have some big names attached to them. The Shumshere boasts of original Architecture and Water Closets. The owners through a lot of hard work have managed to retain the original elephant and horse Stables as well. The beds are the same Victorian Era Canopy Beds of the Early 20th Century. The stooping canopies are a delight and the matching Victorian Era Furniture mixed with a hint of the oriental shows the exposure The Shumshere had to the different eras of time. Really Beautiful. Must Visit. Do be warned they expect certain type of behaviour to maintain the peace and Tranquility of the hotel. So Book Accordingly.

Stays like in “The Shumshere” are a pure delight... lovely nature, delicious fresh food.. Reminds me of “Geoffrey Bawa” architecture from Sri Lanka.. definitely one of the best place in and around Dehradun which can not go wrong. Special thanks to Mr Govind and Mh Ishaq for their amazing hospitality. And grateful to RP Devgan sir for recommending this to us for an overnight halt in Dehradun. We would definitely come again and also hoping to visit “Jim Jungle retreat” during next vacation..

Shumshere is like a home away from home. One can customise the stay in this most beautifull and tasteful place. The ambience spells class while the walls speak history.
