This place deserves 10 out of 5 stars!!! The castle is amazing itself as well as the modern restoration and information regarding how they did it. And just when you think you're done there's a whole other area filled with slightly more modern furniture, clothing, metalwork and more! Be sure to give yourself lots of time. I'm a slow museum visitor but I don't think I could see it all in one day.

I could’ve spent easily 2 more hours in there. I learned so much about Turku’s (and Finland in general) history at this museum. The staff is kind and helpful and eager to explain. I wish the lighting could be a little brighter because there were some exhibit notes that I couldn’t read because of how dim the castle was. The castle can also be rented out for special occasions like weddings and such! I was grateful that most rooms had its exhibit notes translated in English.

Kierroksella kuulimme juuri lapsille sopivalla tyylillä linnan historiasta. Vierailumme aikana Linnan alueella oli myös keskiaikaiset turnajaiset, joissa pääsimme tutustumaan erilaisiin keskiaikaisiin turnajais-lajeihin. Paikalla oli myös erilaisia myyntikojuja sekä ravintolatelttoja.

Despite Turku Castle's rich history and knowledgeable staff, our overall experience was marred by an unexpected policy regarding ticket validity. On our first visit, we purchased tickets in the late afternoon but didn't have time to explore the entire castle. When we returned the following day to continue our tour, we were informed that we needed to purchase new tickets, despite having paid €14 each for the original tickets. While some of the staff members were genuinely passionate about sharing the castle's history, our encounter with the older lady at the reception left a sour taste. Her dismissive attitude and the lack of flexibility regarding ticket validity tarnished our overall impression of the castle. It's disheartening to see a place with such a rich heritage adopting a money-oriented approach that prioritizes ticket sales over customer satisfaction. We suggest that Turku Castle consider extending the validity of their tickets to 24 hours, allowing visitors to fully explore the castle at their own pace without the burden of purchasing multiple tickets. This change would be more customer-friendly and align with the spirit of a historical landmark that deserves to be appreciated and understood in its entirety.

Must visit sight when you are in Turku. The castle itself is an impressive building, from the inside even more so than from the outside. The exhibition is very interesting and informative. You can spend hours here learning about finnish history. All descriptions are available in english.

Greetings from Ireland. We visted this wonderfully preserved historical landmark from the medieval era during our trip to Turku in August 2022. We spent a good hour wandering around this time capsule after our hour long tour ended. Be prepared to spend a lot of time here as there is a lot to explore. Our tour guide (a blonde fellow with glasses who had perfect English and was kitted out in medieval garb) was extremely knowledgeable and explained the rich and fascinating history of each area throughout our tour. Fair warning, be prepared to climb a lot of steep stairs. Wear comfortable shoes when you visit. Overall a must see when Visiting Turku.

It was an amazing place. You fall inlove with the history. As of this moment though, you need to have COVID pass as requirement and also ticket for the museum tours which apparently we did not rake since according to the hotel my covid pass is not accepted which I dont get since how could I possibly enter the country 😑😑 they are using THL so yez, if you guys have covid cert from Asia, like me, you might get problem which is tje worst

Had a great morning at Turku castle very easy to follow route making sure you do not miss anything and lots of staff around to help. Majority of the room descriptions are in Finnish, Swedish and English. Plenty to do for all age groups our 3 and 5 year old really enjoyed it all. The offer guided tours but is easy enough to do on your own. Is also on the museum card.

A brilliant location for the whole family. There was guided tours at certain times, one of which was in English. We decided to just head around ourselves and the descriptions of the items were just the right size to read and enjoy it. About 2 to 3 hours is needed to explore fully.

It is one of the tourist spots in Turku . It was initially built as a forward post in the thirteenth century . The place was then an island . Later the area joined up with the land . It later served as office , ammunition store & even as the Ducal palace . The checkered history of the castle is quite fascinating . It changed hands a few times between the Danes , the Swedes & the Russians . It was destroyed badly in the Russo Finnish war of 1939-40 . It was later restored over a period of several decades . The structure is bold but minimalistic . You don’t find the usual opulence of European castles . However it has been converted into an excellent museum . The museum not only houses the history of this castle but the history & culture of the Finns across centuries . It took us more than two hours just to stroll through all the rooms . Guides are available , there are downloadable audio apps , but one may or may not need them . The staff is friendly , we had a nice chat with one of them about the Finnish history of 20th century .

(Translated by Google) A fine castle, worth a visit it is like a time capsule from time to time missing only the people of history and the experiences of that time. A program has been made for children at Christmas. When it comes to finding out about the corona, I recommend it to families with children and school class trips. Jouluna on tehty lapsille ohjelmaa.

Turku Castle, Linnankatu 80, 20100 Turku Among Finland’s most prized pieces of national heritage, as well as one of its oldest buildings, Turku Castle took shape in the late-1200s during Finland’s Swedish period. It was built to defend their province of Eastland but took on all sorts of different roles over the next few centuries: It was a luxurious palace, administrative centre, seat of government, warehouse and then a prison right up to the end of the 1800s. Following a delay, the building was finally renovated in 1987 and is now a museum. Currently under maintenance and repair activities.

The structure and the interior is a true definition of restoration and preservation of history. The whole tour, depending on your inquisitive mind may last more than 2 hours 30mins. It is a wonderful experience anyway.

Beautiful large castle - probably the best i have seen - very well preserved and taken care of, with lots if expositions and information. I ran through it for about an hour, but if you want it proper take at least 2-3 hours. There are also guided tours. Definitely recommended!

Nice walk around the castle. First exhibition room describing the history of Turku which was informative and interesting. Interesting pieces on clothing and food followed suit. The interior part showcasing furniture and living conditions was interesting but with very few information sign.

A wonderful castle, which is a must for every visitor to Turku! A beautiful building that underwent a conservation process, and its spaces have become a living museum of extraordinary history. The museum includes dramatic exhibition spaces, and spaces with interactive displays for children who can be almost real knights🤺🤺, kings and queens👸🤴🏻 Throughout the year, there are unique activities, plays and workshops for children. A place that the children want to return to again and again... The complex has a cafe with a unique atmosphere. Hot and sweet chocolate was an excellent end to a winter visit to the castle...☕☕

Very interesting castle. The interior design is contemporary and the ticket price is okay for the size. Interesting insight into the Middle Ages of Finland. There were a few families with small children on site, so it was certainly well suited for children. I don't recommended buying tickets in advance, cause there weren't lots of visitors.

Simply amazing, the outside put me off but the inside made up for it. So much to see and do, you do need at least 2 hours to cover everything and skim read. It was so good, I went two times in the week. The rooms were spectacular and the medieval part was Ooooooh Yeahhhhh baby. Really worth the visit if you have one day there and not a Monday because it is closed then

I visited during winter time so less crowd. It can be reached by bus from market square. Really worth to visit.

A must visit site if you are in Turku, Finland. Said to be one of the oldest medieval buildings still in use in Finland. The castle offers exhibition of artificats from different historical period. It is fascinating that Finland government is supportive in preserving historical places.

What a great experience with kids. We explored the castle on our own and were surprised that one can visit nearly all corners during the visit. Kids enjoyed the tour a lot and said it was the best experience of the day! A nice combo of history and set up scenes and interesting to follow the events throughout the years. The castle was not busy at all although it was summer holiday season and there were medieval event taking place on the castle grounds.

We visited here on a weekend. We arrived a bit last minute, and didn’t have enough time to see all of the castle. There weren’t many guests left. Us and two other groups. Nevertheless, the castle is well preserved and I really liked the staff; Knowledgeable, polite and with a positive attitude. I advise to definitely have at least 2 hours of time, so you can relax and enjoy the place in peace. The tickets for adults are 12€, kids (7-15) 5€, under 7 are free. There’s also special family tickets etc, you can ask at the front desk. You may also use the museum card. If you’re a wheelchair user or have trouble walking, some areas may be impossible for you to access, while others a bit hard. There seems to be an elevator, which you can use to get to some parts, so not completely inaccessible.

Turun linna on ehdottomasti suosikki linnani Suomessa. Itselläni on helposti kulunut yli kaksi tuntia vierailun aikana.

The oldest and the largest surviving medieval building in Finland at the banks of the Aura River where history of Finland ,Sweden and the other Nordic country lies . It is more than 700 yr old historical monument (the history of castle begin in 1280's ) . Worth visit with all those interesting history !

This is a must see in Turku for lots of reasons. Both to illustrate the difference in nobolityd display of lavish lifestyle between courts in Europe and the distant north. The tour takes some time (easily 1+1 hours per castle), but all the history is easily worth the time investment.

Turku Castle (Finnish: Turun linna, Swedish: Åbo slott) is a medieval building in the city of Turku in Finland. Together with Turku Cathedral, the castle is one of the oldest buildings still in use and the largest surviving medieval building in Finland. It was founded in the late 13th century and stands on the banks of the Aura River. The castle served as a bastion and administrative centre in Eastland, as Finland was known during its time as a province of Sweden. Only once did the castle figure in the defence of the realm, when Russian invaders from Novgorod destroyed Turku in 1318.

You should reserve few hours to see all of the Turku Castle. The main castle and the bailey have both so much to see. In main castle different historical eras are clearly visible as castle was fequently and modified to fullfil the needs of royalty. I recommend English guide. She made our tour very informative but also fun with many fascinating detailed stories from era and castle. Bailey is also very fascinating. Has timeline of Turku, Finland and Europe depicting Turku castles history. There is a couple of exhibitions around castle/bailey worth checking out. I recommend strongly visiting Baileys rococo section. Astonishing beautiful rooms. I strongly recommend Turku castle to both finnish and international visitors.

I've visited plenty of different castles all over Finland and this one definitely one of the best. There is just so much stuff to see. There is the outside area of the castle where you can see what the castle looks like from outside. Then there is the interior where you can see what it was like to live in the castle. There is also people who will help you along the way. I give 5/5

Much more than I expected. It goes on and on. Very well done. Kids would love climbing up and down the stairs. You walk through time. I am a pensioner so the entry fee was 6.00 Euro. Very much worth the price. You could spend four hours easily. The attendants are smiling, and knowledgeable. Willing to give information too. Very well done Turku. Bravo.

(Translated by Google) Nice place to visit once per 10yrs and remember how cramped and chilly and poorly ventilated it was. I recommend the guide, although the guide boards in the different rooms are just fine. What I wanted would be more furniture - just wooden and similar replicas would be perfect for me! For example, the queen's room would certainly be the perfect place to be decorated. The empty rooms are a bit ... well, soulless. The park around the castle and the huge old trees are lovely. A nice place for picnics in the summer, the trees provide shade for those who need it. Proximity to the sea brings a nice wind, so bugs, for example, do not bother. Flowering and green areas are kept in excellent condition. (Original) Kiva paikka käydä kerran per 10v ja muistaa, miten ahdasta ja koleaa ja huono ilmanvaihto siellä olikaan. Suosittelen opasta, vaikka opastaulut eri huoneissa ovatkin ihan ok. Mitä kaipaisin olisi enemmän huonekaluja - ihan vain puiset yms replikat kelpaisivat minulle mainiosti! Esim kuningattaren huone olisi varmasti mitä mainioin paikka sisustettuna. Meren läheisyys tuo mukavan tuulen, joten esim. ötökät eivät häiritse. Kukkaistutus- ja viheralueet pidetään erinomaisessa kunnossa.

Fine piece of history in multiple layers. There is a variety of services available and places to hold e. g. weddings within the castle walls including in the castle church. Cafe and surrounding areas add to the cultural scenery. Parking areas with fee nearby within walking distance. Entrance leads to ticket booth with lobby that has toilets and place to hang clothes but preferably oneself should carry them along.

It looks moderate sized but tge interior is huge. Has a medieval castle, renaissance castle to walk through, plus multiple exhibitions covering the history of turku from 1300s to 1900s, and the lifestyles of the nobility and gentry. If you are visiting Finland I think this alone is worth making a day trip to Turku!

Great place to visit. The castle is very big with lots of different rooms to visit. There is also a lot of different old items in various exhibitions. Alot of helpful guides that are happy to explain more about the castle and its history. Prepare with comfortable shoes. To tour the whole castle you need to walk quite a lot, including also narrow and steep staircases. Overall, probably the best castle in Finland. Great place to visit also for families, even with young children. At least my children loved this place.

Great place to get to know about history of the castle and the city. Absolutely love its historic atmosphere and the detailed guidance on the signs. I could easily wandered around designed 'tours' without a guide person. The exhibitions were amazing with lots of items displayed along with interesting notes about them. Just 3-km walk along Aura river to get there from the Cathedral. Highly recommend!!! (Idk why but on the day I got there, there were many families with small kids running around 😂, so probably it can be a nice place for family too)

Outside it is visually stunning, but though they claim it is dated back to 1280, the truth is, they remade virtually everything inside, with lots of craftmanship and skills in woodwork. The result is: it is not authentic anymore. I am based in the UK, and the local castles are breathing history at you. In case of Turun Linna it is a totally different concept of preserving heritage. It is used to host a very impressive museum and I enjoyed it very much, but it feels new. Still, highly recommended.
