Designed by Alvar Aalto in early 1930's Paimio Sanatorium was to make the building itself a contributor to the healing process. The building was a tuberculosis sanatorium until the early 1960's, when it was converted into general hospital. Whole place is absolutely amazing and has very interesting history. Also surrounding park and pine woods. I highly recommend to take a guided tour.

Great example of functionalism. The building, furniture, colors, everything is planned by great Finnish arcitect couple Alvar and Aino Aalto. Built 1933 (finished). Also the surroundings are beatiful with pine forest area. It was built for tuberculose sanatoriun, but changed to a normal hospital later. Now it is kept up by a foudation to save a great ensemble of functionalism style. Inside is also a collection of Aalto furiture. You should reserve a guided tour in forehand. In the building is also a restaurant and you can also reserve accommodation from the building on the area. If you are interested about Finnish arcitecture (functionalism) or design (F.ex.the furniture are in cult reputation and highly expensive today) this is a great place to visit!!!

Kaunis ja viihtyisä paikka! Etenkin kun luonto on läsnä kaikkialla ympärillä. Opastettu kierros myös kannatti, koska silloin pääsi käymään kattoterassilla ja näkemään muutenkin vähän lisää.

Rakennuksen arkkituuri, värimaailma ja jo yli 90 vuotta sitten kohteeseen valitut tekniset ratkaisut ovat kaikki hyvin puhuttelevia. Erittäin mieleenpainuva opastettu kierros ja päivä kokonaisuudessaan. Suosittelen lämpimästi myös paikan ravintolaa!!

This jewel in the middle of beautiful pine forest is must destination for anyone who is seven slightly interested in architecture. There are just so much details to see that 1,5h tour that we booked wasn't long enough. Restaurant Toivo serves lunch 11-14 during summer season.

Mielenkiintoinen opastettu, 1,5 h kierros, paljon tietoa parantolan vaiheista, historiasta, hoitomenetelmistä ja arkkitehtuurista. Suosittelen.

Hieno paikka, johon todella suosittelen tutustumaan opastetulla kierroksella.

If you are interested in architecture and/or Finnish design this is definitely worth a considerable detour. There is an exhibition downstairs, or you can sign up for a guided tour. The beautiful design combined with all the practical functionalities in the implementation is truly impressive.

I have been wanting to visit Paimio Sanatorium for a few years. Albeit coming from Helsinki and missing out on the English led tour, I still did the later tour that was in Finnish. my guide was brilliant because she spoke a bit in English to explain a few things as well as giving me a small book written in English so that I could follow the tour. Brilliant all round and would highly recommend it if you are a fan of Alvar Aalto’s work.

(Translated by Google) Visit without finding an internal tour. I took only pictures of the appearance and foyer. You can see how great Aalto is.

👍👍 Hyvin merkattu luontopolku vaihtelevassa maastossa.
