Well, this is very well done! It will show you the most important and iconic designers, products and thoughts in Finnish history of design. I really like how they apply equity and inclusion as a part of the presentation of the design. I would appreciate more engaging elements and more accessible materials for different needs. Otherwise it was nice experience.

The Design museum of Helsinki has always something worthwhile to show and is a must for those interested in design. Finnish design and architecture. The museum has also a fabulous cafe that offers its well-known liquorice buns for those who want something sweet with the coffee.

I was here two times and every time was amazed how comfortable it is to visit. Everywhere you can find a place to sit, and many objects to interact with. I would highly recommend to visit a museum to get to know about Finnish design and its contribution. However, there some exhibits located on the level of the knee that was quite tricky to explore cause I have to look down too much to read the text about auch exhibits on the corridor. On the photo there are a small park behind the building and and an exhibit made of cute tiles.

Wonderful museum with three floors. When we visited there were two temporary exhibitions - top floor there were tapestries by Kustaa Saksi. These were quite eerie and otherworldly. On the basement floor there was a light exhibit by graphic designer of the year Tomi Leppänen which was beautiful. The ground floor had the permanent exhibit with Finnish design icons. There is a café and gift shop with some nice bits and pieces.

Sorry I can’t give a better star rating Designmuseo. Just Is not enough to see, more of a small display than a museum. Really should be free admission. Perhaps one day Finland, with SO MUCH design and innovation and Architecture should have a designed and Architectural museum building full of what is on offer all over Helsinki Should be as brilliant as Copenhagen Design Museum. Has a nice little cafe and shop. All areas are wheelchair accessible via a lift

The regular exhibition is nice! U can see Finnish classics like Fiskars and metro seats. The exhibitions that change are always awesome! Place has cafe and is at great location with easy accessibility. Beautiful building also.

Quite small but informative and revealing. So many cool things have originated in Finland, not just Nokia. The exhibition about gardens was very absorbing. It is wheelchair accessible but you have to around the back to get in. The ticket gets you in to the architecture museum behind it.

Really wonderful museum to see some history and examples of creative Finnish design. Really enjoyed the temporary art exhibit as well!

Very nice museum for those who show interest into design and architecture. Loads of models and drawings, traditional Finnish patterns and objects along with iconic designs (chairs, phones and other furniture). It should be on the 'to see' list!

(Translated by Google) The design museum has a fine Travel as a Tool exhibition upstairs. It presents the journeys of Nordic artists and the influences they bring to their work. Downstairs is the Other Words exhibition by Schick Toika, winner of the Graphic Designer of the Year 2020 award. (Original) Designmuseossa on yläkerrassa hieno Travel as a Tool-näyttely. Se esittelee pohjoismaisien taiteilijoiden matkoja ja niiden tuomia vaikutteita taiteilijoiden töihin. Pleasant, intimate design museum in central Helsinki. The Finnish design exhibits are well done and thoughtful, tho small. When I visited there was an excellent exhibit on Josef Frank that took up half the museum. The cafe is nice, too. Small gift shop.

Very nice collection. Perhaps a bit smaller than I would have expected taking into consideration the amount of important designers in the country. I’m an interior designer and enjoyed seeing the iconic pieces.

All in all, it is a nice museum and it provides interesting information! Unfortunately, many things were under maintenance or closed due to Covid. Furthermore, half of the exhibition is about Fashion which is quite a lot.

The Design Museum is another impressive Neo-Gothic edifice you’ll encounter in Helsinki. You can visit this museum together with the Architecture one, which is right next corner, with one combined ticket. Finland is internationally famous for its cutting-edge design and the Design Museum showcases the nation’s history of industrial, fashion, and graphic design from the late 19th century to the present day.

Pretty cool, not the biggest museum out there. It has a big focus on glassware and glass art on the second floor. The first floor has an exhibition with more broad design topics, like fashion and furniture which is interesting!

Wonderful, well-curated museum! Their exhibits captivated me from the moment I walked in, and kept my attention for hours. Their permanent collection was so intriguing- I had no clue so many iconic designs were from Finland! It gave me a much better understanding of their culture, and I’m so glad I went. The visiting exhibit on Josef Frank’s work was also interesting and enjoyable. I recommend this museum to anyone planning a visit to Helsinki.

We visited this compact museum located in a nice neighborhood with good restaurants, cafes and art galleries. The museum is in three floors of a beutiful old house. It is small enough not to be exhausting. I think the permanent exhibition, which tells the story of the Finnish design, is perhaps more interesting for the locals who might own or have owned many of its objects themselves. The changing exhibitions provide a wider set of the design world. It has a nice small cafe and a bookshop. All signs and infoboards are in English too.

(Translated by Google) The place is good, but there are some drawbacks, there is a choice of what to see, but it is frustrating when instead of a thing, there is a photograph of it, it's still a museum, I want more real things !? I also specifically watched this and for 20 minutes, it happened 3 times, given that there were not many admirers. So this is what I mean, the stands are made in the style of train carriages, and it looks interesting, inside these cars there are well-lit objects, they seem to carry them in time, probably this is the idea, but they carry these objects on wooden sticks, and in the main in the hall to the right of the stairs there are three cars that are connected by one board, but the distance between them is such that you can bypass each car from all sides. And it turns out that you look inside the carriage, want to go around it and stumble over a rail that can be shortened for good without any damage.

The museum to visit in Helsinki. Displys in three floors, healthy and plentiful food at the restaurant well matches the designshops selections in design delicasies.

Finland has a long history of design excellence and this museum is the spiritual home of that tradition. The building style is not what you might expect - an example of Gothic revivalism rather than sleek modernism. Given its cultural significance, the museum is in some ways modest and I found the subdued lighting to be somewhat odd. As well as the museum’s collection there are also exhibitions and the venue is also a hub for research and discussion. There is an excellent cafe and a small bookshop.

  • 3/5 Shining S. 10 months ago on Google
This museum attracted me because there are lots of positive feedback on TripAdvisor. But I should confess that it didn’t impress me at all except an exhibition of carpets. There are not so many interesting things to observe or get inspired. Also, there are a shop and a cafe inside of the building which are very cosy and it’s nice to have a short break after the museum.

Vuorovaikutteisuus puuttui. Vaikkapa muovailuvahasta ja tarvikkeista vierailijat olisivat voineet tehdä oman tulkintansa puutarhasta tai osallistua yhteisen puutarhan rakentamiseen. Esimerkiksi säkillinen viljaa on puhdas ja melkein ilmainen aine.

Easily one of my favorite museums now. Great variety of exhibits, tons of air and space to take everything in and reflect. A lot of light, a few interesting tech innovations (yes, 3D is here!). A very good bookshop in the gift shop. All in all, a must see in Helsinki, and if you're a design afficcionado, it might just be the reason to come to Finland in the first place.

Went on a Sunday to visit the Secret Universe exhibition by Aamu Song and Johan Olin and loved how fun, quirky and beautiful the installations were. A very good reminder of the skill that goes into good and traditional craftsmanship. An eye opening exhibition if you want to further develop an appreciation for the effort and skill it takes to not only make and preserve these traditions but to also collaborate across traditions, cultures and fields like the design world and the worlds of the "masters". Left me a lasting impression.

Several interactive exhibits at the museum were out of use due to Covid. After a year and a half of Covid I was surprised that the museum hadn't redesigned the exhibitions to account for this. More, the main exhibit on Iittala glassware had a dead fly in one of the exhibition cases. Overall not as good of an experience as I've had previously.
