It’s beautifully renovated! We enjoyed the exhibitions. There’s also a wonderful looking cafe! Staff is friendly and the architecture of the premises is beautiful. Mostly traditional forms of art, but we loved it! Kids don’t pay to go in, it’s accessible by trolley and wheelchair and there’s a play area for kids!

Very good museum on Finnish art. Not all names are well known but most of the lesser known names had quite beautiful works there. The presentation of the world is also very good with able light and little glare.

The Ateneum is closed to the public due to ventilation renovation starting from 28 March 2022. And the museum will reopen in early 2023. This place is one of the three museums forming the Finnish National Gallery. It is located in the centre of Helsinki on the south side of Rautatientori square close to Helsinki Central railway station and it has the biggest collections of classical art in Finland.

Such a great art museum. The museum has  an excellent collection by many different artists. The entry fee is 20€ per person, and 18€ for students. This Art Museum is definitely one of my favourite places in Helsinki.

Experienced this museum after its renovation, liked it! Haven’t even thought that Finish artist are that good! But the entrance fee might be a bit expensive. Normal ticket costs 20€, student 12€, under 18 is free

Great masterpieces of visual art from Finnish National Gallery. The architecture of the building is telling their own story. Many of arts were from previous centuries.

First of all, be prepared for a really long queue. At a weekday i waited 1½ hours. The entrance price is ok, but lockers are included and are easy to handle. The main exhibition is smaller than I expected from a national museum, though most of the pictures got a good description and the diferent eras are clearly discernable. The temporary exhibtion of Repin was really great, got great descriptions what also clearly designed.

Amazing Repin exhibition! We got to see the paintings, some of which were brought all the way from Saberia, Irkutsk and also from private collections. Had to queue for 1,5 h as it was the last day that visitors could come on a queue basis. (Got lucky to learn about it when I called Ateneum). The waiting was worth it. It was an honor to see works of such a talented painter. We spent around 1,5 h in the museum from 21:30 untill the closing time at 23:00. As a note for myself and a piece of advice for others: don't wait untill the last days of any exhibition in Ateneum, visit earlier to avoid queueing on last days. I was told by Ateneum staff, that the queueing time was 4 h during the day. We used our Museum cards to enter, the normal adult price is 19€. There were limited amount of people in halls, all wearing masks and keeping distance, there were sanitizers available. I think, Ateneum staff organized all very well. The staff was very friendly. Definitely recommend! 20.8.2021

Beautiful Art Gallery, three floors where you can find great work from Finnish artists and others. There is a studio in the second floor where you can start drawing your first piece of art. In the third floor is a cafe with delicious things to eat, and drink, with a beautiful view of the city. Highly recommend a visit.

Museum with beautiful artwork and exhibitions. Comes with a nicely stocked shop and restaurant. It was very busy on a weekend afternoon. Otherwise good location in the city, opposite the central station, close walking distance to other interesting sights.

Unfortunately is temporary closed. The Ateneum Art Museum is home to the largest collections of classical art in Finland. The museum is home to more than 20,000 works of art, mostly by Finnish artists from the mid-18th to the mid-20th century. Some of Finland’s most cherished artworks are located here including Hugo Simbert’s gloomily symbolic The Garden of Death and Akseli Gallen-Kallela’s Boy with a Crow. The museum building dates back to 1887 and its elegant facade is adorned with statues and reliefs which contain a lot of symbols.

Great place to see some nice art. Gaugin paintings were liberaly displayed in the collection with many Nordic artists. Of Particular interest was the Kalevala section covering the finish folklore and mythology.

A must go place for tourists and museum enthusiasts. Ateneum showcases year-long some of Finland's most famous and important paintings. Not a huge fan of art museums myself.

The Ateneum museum not only has a rich collection of artworks by also manifests a strong competence in arranging display of artworks, allowing viewers to enjoy artworks organized by themes effortlessly. - It’s definitely an ideal place for art lovers to spend their afternoons.

The art collectios are fine, but the museum is honestly too small for the price of the ticket (20 eur/person). E.g., it's more expensive than the Louvre ticket in Paris, but the collection is obviously much more limited than the one in Louvre.

It's a small museum that will surprise you as soon as you go in. Masterpieces from some well known artists and plenty of works from finish painters.

We wanted to see the Albert Edelfelt Exhibition and it just happened to be a day with FREE admission in Ateneum! 😃 Well what can I say: it was far beyond my expectations and can recommend it from the bottom of my heart! ❤️ There were also paintings from other great Finnish masters! 😊

Here you'll find a huge collection of gorgeous art! Multiple floors in a beautiful old building in Helsinki city center. They're currently holding a showing of impressionist paintings on the 3rd floor called "Color & Light," which I really enjoyed. Cute cafe and gift shop. Got some cute postcards. It is absolutely worth a visit, though I think the discounted student price of 12€ for a visit to the city museums is a bit high. Free entry for under 18's.

Kaikin puolin hieno kohde.

  • 5/5 Heli H. 4 months ago on Google
Upea, monipuolinen taidemuseo. Suosittelen ehdottomasti! Tällä kertaa impressionismi ja Hugo Simberg houkuttivat paikalle. Lapset huomiotu hyvin, ja istumatilaa löytyy levähdyshetkiin. Hyvät, siistit tilat ja erinomainen kahvila! Lounas tarjolla päivittäin.

  • 5/5 Tiina T. 8 months ago on Google

The museum's permanent exhibition provides a comprehensive view on Finnish arts, especially painting and sculpture. The focus is obviously on the classical era but there are a few displays on modern arts as well. The architecture of the museum itself is also impressive.

Compact museum that showcases the best of Finland’s art along with temporary exhibits from other parts of the world. There are also a small number of pieces from world renowned artists like Van Gogh and Rodin. The collection covers a variety of subjects and genres that inspired Finnish artists over the centuries. Artifacts on display span paintings, sculptures, photographs, textiles and other types. Museum is located in the center of Helsinki and really easy to get to. Allow about 1.5-2 hours for a visit.

Great wayto view the history of Finland through the art movements that were present here in the 19th and 20th centuries. The Ateneum named for the goddess Athena, who protects the arts, opened in 1888. It is a beautiful classical style building and it's easy to move through it.

Lovely experience, it was an honor to find one of Victor Hugo’s paintings there, although the pathway through the museum can be a bit confusing specially on the last floor, it is quite interesting to see such a diverse style in every floor, in addition to that, the museum also has a great variety of time periods, some taken this year. While prices are not cheap even for students, the museum is filled with interesting arts that would take a minimum of 2 hours to see everything.

  • 4/5 Lubica V. 3 years ago on Google
Museum is situated in the very heart of Helsinki in the interesting building that would be worth to visit just because of the building. Gallery has a remarkable collection of Finnish arts and some interesting pieces from international painters/artists as well. It's definitely worth to visit.

Of you want to experience what Finnish art is about, this is the place to visit. Here are displayed the classics of Finnish art and how we as a nation express ourselves through art. Through these artworks we defined ourselves what we are as a rather young independent nation. Nature played, and still does, a big part of our identity. This is evident in many paintings in Ateneum and in one and two euro coins. By visiting here you can see what we were and reflect what we are at the moment. We have made a giant leap from mainly agricultural society to high tech modern country in a hundred years as an independent country. In Ateneum you can see where we come from and what is important for us still today. Highly recommended.
