Great Finnish Aviation museum with super fine arrangements and great collection of plans and historical facts. The museum is divided into different sections and includes many aspects of the Finnish Air Force including special operations and capabilities from WW2.

Kertakaikkisen hieno kokoelma historiallista lentokalustoa ilmavoimilta.

Cool place...fun stuff..have around 30 fighter planes and in couple of then yu can actually go inside and have an experience inside the cockpit of fighter jet. One can easily spend 2 hrs here, so plan accordingly. The best part is the museum tells history of foghter planes in finland from 1910s to now and the engines too. So, you can also have a closer look on engines and how they evolved with time as well as planes and their evolution with time. Most of the fighter planes had donated from finnish air force and. You can also buy soveniers too. The place have a tiny cafeteria, where yu can get coffee and some bakery stuff.

An excellent place to visit. Reminds me also my time in the Air Force Military School.

The museum overall is nicely setup with signage being mostly in English and Finnish. The museum has a nice collection of aircraft from the start of the Finnish Air Force, to the more recent era. It was nice to see a wide array of aircraft in Finnish colors, especially the world's only Brewster Buffalo and a Hawker Hurricane. I think that the overall pricing of the museum is reasonable for what you get, and I love the fact that they have balconies that allow you to overlook most of the aircraft. The one major downside to the museum is the terrible indoor lighting that casts a nasty orange tint on everything inside.

Very cool museum with 40+ aircraft of all uses and sizes. This is accompanied ons of models and also very informative panels about the history of Finnish aviation including interesting backstories of the blue swastika and home-made planes Tiira. Another cool feature is that you can sit in real cockpits of two real fighter jets (just the cockpit part present in this case). Part of the exhibits are outside but most of the museum is hosted indoors.

Very interesting overview of the history of the Finnish Air Force, from biplanes to jets, with a comprehensive collection of aircraft. Great to see rarer planes like the Magister and the Draken, and the huge scale model collection upstairs is a hidden treat. They have three cockpits open to go inside - amazing to sit in a MiG-21! There's a well stocked museum shop too, with some rare model kits to buy that represent the whole history of the Ilmavoimat. The only downside was that not all the displays were available in English.

Hieno pala ilmavoimien historiaa.

Vaikuttava kokoelma sotilasilmailun historiaa yli sadan vuoden ajalta. Sopii koko perheelle, vauvasta vaariin. Suosittelen kaikille.

I visited the museum now in August 2019. The environment outside the museum is messy so when I entered the exhibition hall my expectations were exceeded. The time for the World Wars is well represented and you can get a good insight into the development of technology in the aviation industry at that time. If people had spent as much resources on human welfare instead of developing weapons; what would the world look like today?

Finland has a rich and varied aviation history. This museum has a wide array of aircraft reflecting the diversity of the Finnish air force fleet. Aircraft from the USA, Russia, UK, Sweden, France, Germany and perhaps more! The exhibitions bring the aircraft to life and give an in depth look into the Finnish contributions during WW2 and the cold war. A great way to spend an afternoon for the whole family!

Awesome place for the aviation nerd 🤣 Got two and a half SAAB J35 Drakens... the half being a front with a cockpit that you may sit inside (along MiG-21 too, so you can compare the east vs. west experience). The exposition is focused on Finnish air forces alone, and is very rich, extensive and well organised. Time very well spent!

Ps. Bf109:n käynnistysnappi ei toiminu.

A wide coverage of the history of aviation with unique rarities packed into a compact exhibition hall.

  • 4/5 Naavanoita 3 years ago on Google
Quite cheap tickets (10€) and a lot to see. You can spend half of the day here reading about history of the finnish airforces and exploring the planes in exhibit. You are allowed to take photos for your personal use in this museum and there's a lot to shoot about. There's also a possibility to try a flight simulator on Saturdays (any other time, call first to make a reservation). Would be nice to have few seats around the exhibit for the older people - now the only chance to rest your feet is the cafe next to the ticket booth.

Military museum with moderate size in space and moderate number of collections. Anyway, the visitors can catch a glimpse of Finnish military aviation history. Artifacts on exhibition range from the earliest wooden- metallic surveillance plane to full-metal fighter jet, from the retired planes to shot-down planes. Worth a visit if you are keen to know Finnish air force history.

Even if you are not into this kind of stuff, you will have a great time walking through the hall full of legendary air vehicles and related things! Tickets are cheap. Lots of parking space. Not too many other visitors. Playground for younger kids. Place to drink coffee. Can recommend!

Very good a museum, it has a lot history and knowledge to read about. The exhibition is well-organized and marked. Feels like walking back to the history. There are plenty city buses from Jyväskylä. The small giftshop and cafe is clean and friendly. Overall it is a great museum! The cockpit experience is amazing and you can also book flight simulator in advance.

Paikka on avara ha siisti. Koneet ym. On hyvin esillä. Tekstit ovat selkeät. Paljon on katsomista. Lipunmyynnin yhteydessä on kahvio. Museokorttia oli käytetty.

The museum itself is pretty good. There's an amazing selection of airplanes! My only disappointment was that there was very little information in English without putting in extra effort. That said, English is not an official language in the country. I'm just very used to being spoiled in the other museums and galleries that i have did while in Finland.

  • 5/5 Tarmo S. 1 year ago on Google
The museum contains many airplanes used by the Finnish Air Force from it's inception in 1918 through WW 2 to old mig-21 and Drakens. Do also use the upper catwalk to get a better look and check the models and dioramas set up there.

The Finnish Air Force Museum (Finnish: Suomen Ilmavoimamuseo), formerly the Aviation Museum of Central Finland (Finnish: Keski-Suomen ilmailumuseo), is an aviation museum located near Jyväskylä Airport in Tikkakoski, Jyväskylä, Finland. The museum exhibits the aviation history of Finland, from the early 1900s until today. The museum is owned by the Foundation of Aviation Museum of Central Finland (Finnish: Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseosäätiö). The exhibition consists of aircraft, engines and aircrew equipment which has been used by the Finnish Air Force. The equipment of the Air Force Signals Museum has its own section. A large collection of scale models gives a wider perspective to the whole field of aviation. The museum has around 25,000 visitors.

Great collection od planes with detailed descriptions, often uncommon or unique types. Museum is relatively small so if you just briefly look at planes, you will run through quickly, but you can also get lost for whole day. Not all descriptions are in english, but most important ones are. Highly recommended!
