The
Government
of
Andhra
Pradesh
through
APRDC
has
ratified
the
new
corridor
between
East
and
West
Godavari
district.
The
corridor
will
start
at
Km
81/349
of
Eluru-Gundugolanu
on
Kovvur
side
(West
Godavari
side)
and
it
will
end
at
NH-5
at
Km
903/337
Rajahmundry
side.
The
proposed
corridor
has
total
length
14.488
km.
It
comprises
of
a
completely
new
alignment
which
consists
two
parallel
major
bridges
(4.088
km
long
&
2
lane
each)
over
river
Godavari.
The
approach
road
to
the
bridge
on
west
Godavari
side(Kovvur
Side)
is
about
1.968
km
in
length,
while
that
on
east
Godavari
side(Rajahmundry
side)
is
8.432
Km
in
length.
With
the
construction
of
this
new
corridor
on
upstream
side
of
existing
rail-cum-road
bridge,
total
distance
from
Eluru
to
Rajahmundry
will
be
reduced
by
40
Km.
The
maximum
traffic
plying
on
the
NH-5
will
get
diverted
on
this
new
proposed
road
also
vehicles
will
not
have
to
enter
the
Rajahmundry
city
which
will
reduce
the
traffic
problem
of
city.
This
is
a
long
span
bridge
but
instead
of
using
preferred
well
foundation
for
river
bridges
particularly
in
Indian
sub-continent,
it
adopts
the
large
size
pile
foundation
for
faster
construction.
Also
changing
the
initial
proposal
of
'I'
beams
to
segmental
box
girder
has
reduced
the
time
of
construction
as
well
as
concrete
quantity
thus
saving
cost.
This
paper
emphasizes
on
design
as
well
asconstruction
issues
for
building
Second
Godavari
Bridge.
