The Sarai of Lashkari Khan is a true heritage place. Came into notice after the movie 'Rang de Basanti'. Needs administrative interventions to save its glorious past. Nice place but often closed. You have to trespass to see it from inside. No one there to guide you

Serai Leshkari khan located near Gurudwara Manji Sahib,Kotan(near Doraha) in Ludhiana district, Punjab, India is a historical inn built by Mughal military general Lashkari Khan, in the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb in 1667 CE. A specimen of major structural types of Islamic architecture, this is one of many Carvanserais meant to be halting places along the old Mughal highway connecting Agra, Delhi and Lahore. These caravanserais played an important role in economic, cultural and political life but gradually fell in disuse with shifting routes and advent of railroads in the nineteenth century. Many of these disappeared altogether due to modernization and urban expansion. The historic inn, though, declared as a protected monument has largely been neglected and has been in a dilapidated condition. The place is not maintained.

NYC place Serai Lashkari Khan located on Highway number One near Gurdwara Manji Sahib, Kotan (near Doraha) in Ludhiana District, Punjab is a historical inn built by moghulmilitary general Lashkari Khan, in the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb in 1667 AD A specimen of major structural types of Islamic architecture, this is one of many Carvanserais meant to be halting places along the old Mughal highway connecting Agra, Delhi and Lahore. These caravanserais played an important role in economic, cultural and political life but gradually fell in disuse with shifting routes and advent of railroads in the nineteenth century. Many of these disappeared altogether due to modernization and urban expansion.[2] The historic inn, though, declared as a protected monument has largely been neglected and has been in a dilapidated condition.[3] This Serai was made popular after it was featured in the popular movie Rang De Basanti referred to by its acronym RDB. Some tourists started referring to it the RDB fort after that.[4][5]

This is the RDB Fort, not the Mughal Saran where people often reach by mistake. It is in a deplorable condition. Rang de Basanti popularized this monument so much that people have literally broken this place down. The Archeological Survey of India has now acquired the monument and it is being resurrected and because of which the agriculture inside the monument has been stalled. People have stolen bricks from the monument. Beware of snakes. There is no water body nearby as in the movie. You might be able to catch some film shootings though. Do eat from the nearby gurudwara, langar is served 24/7.

It's our part of history but sadly we r not preserving it. Government should preserve these kind of places because these kind of places r TRUE RECORDS of our great history which we cannot find or study in books.

Visited after the lockdown ,at the end of the corona pandemic. It is a Mughal monument built by a lashkari khan on the historical road which connects the Delhi with Lahore .often glorified with the movie Rang De Basanti .Here is my experience , There was no ticket counter anyone can visit it ,The gate was closed ,so I ve to pass through the half broken wall .Alot of people were already there and shooting with the camera .I can't say it is a govt protected monument or not because it seems like that it was completely left out by the govt to preserve it . Interior of the fort was filled with bushes and dust .The high walls were still in good position seems to like built with gypsum and baked bricks . There were several broken Barracks and room inside it .A central room and a empty well in the middle . The outer structure is better and beautiful state

Its a centuries old structure. One feels part of history by vising there. Also , the architecture of the building is incredible. Worth visiting this place. Now it has been renovated a bit by tourism dept of Panjab. A new boundary wall is built. Two gaurds are sitting at the gate.

This place is really close to my heart. I have visited it when there was nothing but ruins. Now, they are renovating the place and photography has been restricted as well. But still, this is a really good place to visit between Khanna and Ludhiana.

The serenic beauty of this place and the historical relevance of the monument is something extra-ordinary. This place was the shooting sight for the movie rang de basanti. It is a nice place to hangout for couples and friend groups. The place has beautiful structures and eye-catching sceneries. It is a must visit. You can visit the Manji Sahib Gurudwara too afterwards. This place can be sighted from the road but the route to find is quite conjusted.
