Along with world-famous Somnath Temple, Somnath Beach also forms an important part of the itinerary of a tourist visiting Gujarat. It is famous for its beautifully sparkling waves and long stretches of gray sands. Travelers can unwind here after a long day of sightseeing, although, swimming is not recommended.

The beach itself was nice and clean, with soft sand and a beautiful shoreline. However, one thing to note was the powerful waves.

Somnath Beach is a beautiful stretch of shoreline located in the town of Somnath, Gujarat, India. It is situated in close proximity to the famous Somnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva. The beach offers a stunning view of the Arabian Sea and is a popular tourist attraction. The beach is known for its clean and serene environment and is perfect for a peaceful walk or a swim in the sea. There are also several water sports activities available for adventure enthusiasts, such as jet skiing, parasailing, and banana boat rides.

The intricately carved honey-coloured Somnath temple on the western edge of the state is believed to be the place where the first of the twelve holy jyotirlingas emerged in India – a spot where Shiva appeared as a fiery column of light. The temples lies at the meeting of Kapila, Hiran and Sarasvati rivers and the waves of the Arabian Sea ebb and flow touching the shore on which it is constructed. The ancient temple’s timeline can be traced from 649 BC but is believed to be older than that. The present form was reconstructed in 1951. Colourful dioramas of the Shiva story line the north side of the temple garden, though it’s hard to see them through the hazy glass. A one-hour sound-and-light show in Amitabh Bachchan’s baritone highlights the temple nightly at 7.45pm.

Nice beach ... tremendous amount of current in the Arabian sea. Need to be maintained more gently.
