I took my 12 month old because he had fever and congested chest he was very uncomfortable and couldn’t sleep that’s why I took him so may be he can feel better and I know exactly what’s going on. After spending almost 4 hours in the ER we came back untreated. My son started feeling worse cause he wanted to be at his home as soon as possible. They take forever to do just one x-ray and they took forever to discharge us so we had to walk out just by knowing that doctor has discharged us in the system. The one thing we wanted was his Covid test result but we did not get it which may come next day in the email. Worst experience of my life.

The worst experience I should have listened to the other reviews, please count this as your warning if you choose to go here and DON’T do it. I sat there for 5 hours and was placed in an isolation waiting area for 4.5 of the hours with people who were positive for COVID (one of the guys waiting told me he had it) not knowing if I had it or not. I went in with chills, fever, and headaches they sent me home without the results to my COVID test and just wrote me off as having an upper respiratory infection (gave me nothing for it just told me to take Tylenol). I got home to find out I didn’t have COVID, but upset that I was exposed when I didn’t need to be. Not only that I work in healthcare and the physician completely lied on what he did for my physical exam he never even checked my breathing at all and I had no chest X-rays done or anything for that matter. Not to mention they give you an IV (not connected to anything and only used to draw labs) just to stick you back in the waiting room for hours! I called customer service about my experience and they dismissed me as well. I pray that I never have to go back here.

Wish I can give them a negative 0. I went in with shortness of breath, chest pain and dizziness. sat in the ER for hours.I get in the back and truthfully I hate to even call him a doctor because of his bad and poor ethics. Dr. Terence John Fleming treated me horrible and belittled me. He is a rude, sorry excuse for a doctor. He did not do any ex-rays, blood work, nothing. He was over talking me and talking down to me and trying make me feel low. I have a painful Hiatial Hernia. I am sure this hospital has some malpractice suits His words to me was.. " Nothing I Can Do For You But Send You home. He is truly disgusting. He seems like a cold hearted racist. Please do not come to this hospital. Notice the 1.6 rating. It's already hard for black women to get medical care and this hospital is proof. This hospital is a death door. They don't care. This so call Dr. Has the worst rating and his patients he saw ended up.with worse conditions when they went elsewhere. Please google Terence John Fleming. You will be shocked. He need to have his medical license revoked because he is The"Doctor of Death

I definitely agree that this is the worst ER. I came in for shortness of breath, dizziness and increased heart rate. I was actively having shortness of breath and told a nurse who didn't even look at me but replied that she was trialing. I sat for over 2 hrs waiting for bloodwork, a heart scan and meds. Needless to say I had to flag a tech down for assistance. I later inquired about the wait to get my scan. The African American nurse with blonde and black twists didn't even look at me as I asked about the wait. I never received the scan or meds and eventually left. Ridiculous how these nurses act and the wait times are crazy.

I wish I could give them negative stars! I passed out at another doctor’s office due to low blood pressure 87/48 and I’m 10 weeks pregnant. After rest and some juice my blood pressure went up some and I was told by that doctor that I should still go to the er. I got to rex er and was treated like a trash. The nurse said “your blood pressure is fine! If you want to wait hours to be seen you can but we can’t help you and we will NOT check on your baby here!” I went home in tears.

I was stung in the eye (yes, IN my left eye) by a wasp. Turns out, I am allergic to wasps. Who knew? By the time we got to REX Emergency Room (10 minutes later), I could no longer walk and was having tremendous difficulty breathing. My fiance rushed in the main entrance, asked for a wheelchair, and told the staff I could not breathe. That's when the most effective and efficient staff took over. I was wheeled from the parking lot, given a nausea bag and a towel (because anaphylaxis is fun), and immediately taken to triage for assessment and then off to a private room for treatment. I was terrified, but not for long. The entire team of nurses, PAs, interns, and Dr Fleming was so kind and SO very good at their jobs. Within 30 minutes of being stung, with a plunging BP, severe allergic reaction including hives, difficulty breathing, flop sweat (seriously, like a firehose), and pulse ox below 88%, I was given everything my body needed to heal. They even went out of their way to preserve my dignity -- I had been wearing a dress when I came in so putting on a gown was difficult, to say the least. But I was shown such compassion and even managed a little humor as they replaced my dress with a paper gown. "We're all friends here now. Besides, it's nothing you haven't seen before, and if it is it's about time you did. Now who wants to hold my vomit bag while I strip?" They laughed. I laughed. We all felt better. I was kept for observation for a few hours until my vitals returned to normal. When they tired of looking at me, they sent me back home with a scrip for two shiny new EPIPENS and a whole lot of Prednisone. But while I was there I was never alone. Someone was always nearby to make sure I was alright and was comfortable, even if it was just to hold my hand. It was a truly terrifying thing, getting stung and going into shock. The monitors kept beeping in protest to my vitals, scaring my fiance and me. On the way to REX I actually feared for my life. However, once this extraordinary team took control, I wasn't afraid any more. I knew I was receiving excellent care from excellent people. And I am forever grateful. Thank you. I hope no one reading this ever needs emergency care. But if you do, you can feel confident in placing your health and well-being in REX Hospital Emergency Department. I confidently and enthusiastically recommend!

Worst experience of my life! Never actually saw a doctor. Was treated like I wasn’t in pain. Nurses told me it was all in my head. Went to WakeMed urgent care and was treated. Turns out I have the flu. How do you even call yourself a hospital. I wasn’t tested for anything viral going around. They were extremely rude and gave no remorse to the fact I was literally throwing up blood. They gave me a IV and medicine I already told them I had taken that morning. Every time I had a question I was greeted with short answers, or simply ignored. One nurse didn’t even acknowledge me until she heard me comment on her work ethic. Then she came with a fake smile and told me I had to wait for the doctor. Doctor who didn’t give me a name, didn’t come see me himself, and was just as dismissive as the nurses. Specifically the triage nurse and the male nurse in the ER. One lady was nice and attentive but she was the lady who discharged me so with that being said …….Save yourself some time, stress, and from a headache of being told nothing is wrong with you and you’re just in your head with anxiety. Go to WakeMed.

Waited in the ER lobby for 8 long hours. The guy that did an ultrasound on my arm to find a vein, used my bloody rag and wiped over his equipment. Big OSHA no no.staff were busy talking and joking to notice the sick people waiting to be seen. Triage nurse was horrible and yelled. Worst hospital in NC.

I was in there the other day with my older daughter and she was having some issues… but the people running the front desk and security guard made everyone that wasn’t being seen leave out. I understand that because of Covid - however they didn’t even think to ask if certain people needed them with them! It was absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!! Then the rent a cop security guard had the audacity to say don’t make him put you out

I have never seen numerous people getting IVs sitting in lobby with vomit bags. Sick people made to leave emergency bay and thrust into lobby to wait hours and hours on IVs. No one checking on them . No way to get water or a vending machine nearby for people accompanying them. . Iwas stunned at the lack of care for patient comfort.

We used this emergency department in August when my husband experienced tachycardia out of nowhere, and we were pleased with our experience. The staff were very professional and kind - special shout out to Dr. Erika Rice and to the triage nurses - and we were discharged with a follow up appointment with a cardiologist and a Zio patch for heart monitoring. Of course we did our share of waiting and that can be frustrating. We arrived at 5:45 AM and left around 3 PM. But anyone visiting an ER is going to have to do some waiting unless they are in danger of immediately dying. Just the way it is.

I should have known it would be an awful experience when I came in and the receptionist was arguing with a patient about waiting four hours. The security woman with grey hair streaks and the receptionist said that it was her fault. Patients in wheelchairs who needed help to use the bathroom either didn’t get any help or had to wait 30 min for help. I saw people who came in after me get seen first and I was there for 6 hours. My last straw was when I asked again how long it would be and the nurse said hopefully soon. Then when I said I was leaving, they never took me out the system and the other UNC Emergency room let me know that I was still checked in over there.

The ER nurses and staff were amazing, the doctor was also amazing, I was here about two weeks ago with a heart rate in the 30s, blood pressure through the roof, admitted for 11 days at 20 years old and 3rd admission at this hospital. Every time ER staff were very respectful, kind, and courteous, and quick.

1 visitor in ER waiting area no matter age of patient. Daughter is in waiting area with my wife. I am outside on a bench after being told by the rudest security guard that I need to read the sign. No compassion, no common sense, no respect. Hope the nurses and Dr's are better!

I am currently in the emergency department with my mom. We came here on 11/27/23 around 7pm. It is now 11/28/23 at 6am. Her doctors were great. All of the nurses were extremely professional. Jessica/nurse with the pretty red hair has been attentive to my mom and has continued to come and check up on her while waiting for a room. Jessica is very kind and caring. The front desk receptionist was and is extremely rude and biases. Her name is Jenny! If u come here and encounter Jenny just know she is overly rude! The first shift security are terrible! The way that they interact with individuals that are entering the facility is absolutely horrible! Rex has to do better with the staff that are upfront greeting people that are coming into the facility. They are dealing with individuals that aren’t feeling well as it is and to have to encounter people with terrible attitudes is extremely frustrating!

Very professional except for the one mean lady at Main Entrance lobby check-in desk. I've just been discharged, I'm waiting for an Uber, had to use the bathroom (which is OUTSIDE the "double door" marking the real hospital space). Check-in lady is all EXCUSE ME SIR YOU CAN'T GO IN THERE. I countered with "well I need the water fountain so I can take my meds". SIR THE WATER FOUNTAIN IS BROKEN. hmm...it worked fine when I used it 15 minutes ago on my way out. I'm just an average unthreatening middle aged dude, invisible, no idea why she decided to be hardass with me. she was all smiles to the people she was checking in. anyway I ignored her and did my business because I've no time for petty tyrants with poor attitudes 🙄

When I went in for multiple dog bites to my face, I was taken in right away. Everyone was so kind from the beginning to the end. It was a traumatic experience but everyone was so kind and had so much empathy. I have so much respect for everyone who took such good care of me.

I am experiencing severe back pain and abdomen pain. It’s been 6 hours and I have not yet been seen. I’m likely going to leave soon and see if I can be seen elsewhere. There are people with IVs in the waiting area and they are doing triage in the waiting area. One lady threw up and all they did was send a janitor to clean it up.

Figured I'd go on here and give people a heads up. Went to the er for dehydration, and because I was not going to be admitted, you don't get a bed. They stuck an iv in me and walked me back out to the waiting room. I asked if there was a bed I could lay in and the second nurse was kind enough to talk to the charge nurse and get me a bed. Their new policy is that once you are triaged if you are not to be admitted, your have to wait in a hallway on a chair for your results and iv/meds to kick in. Other than that, it was a normal ER trip once the nice nurse got me a room.

My son was 13 days old when he started having seizures. I delivered him at Rex so we decided to take him to their ER. After checking in and telling them what was going on we waited MAYBE 5 minutes. They called us back and placed us in a room. When the doctor came in he listened to our concerns and watched the videos I had. He called the pediatrician and they immediately started running tests. They transferred us to the children’s hospital @ UNC Chapel Hill. Turns out my son had meningitis. I’m very impressed with how fast they took us back and got the ball rolling on testing. We could have lost him if they hadn’t been so fast. We only use this ER now.

The problem with the hospital is the lazy employee and the lack of communication. You will hear 20 different things about your results or how long things might take and nothing will get done. My girlfriends belongings INCLUDING HER PURSE were lost, we were told the items were givin to her parents, which is kinda weird bc her parents live on the other of the COUNTRY! They keep calling us by the wrong names, I called the er once to leave a message to my gf and the lady who answered NEVER TOLD HER. As I'm sitting in the waiting area right now some doctor or nurse yelled out for someone angerly and the father said she was already taken back there 2 minutes ago. The male doctor/nurse asked what color scrubs the peolle who took his daughter were wearing and the father said he didn't know. WHO JUST LOSES THEIR PATIENTS LIKE THAT, what if the people who took her have the wrong person and are performing the wrong procedures. This hospital is a nightmare and a huge mess, there needs to be better communication and just better employees who care about their job.

Once you get help, its pretty good, but it is like watching a slow game of baseball with many many boring ads, very slow, cumbersome, inefficient and very little feedback. It took us 5 hours for a broken arm. I feel the staff and ER doctors are good but the process is bit broken.

My husband had to go to the ER last night because he's been experiencing severe abdominal pain. They took blood, urine, gave him IV fluids and pain medication and said he was fine. We get his tests back via email and some were labeled abnormal. The doctor never mentioned anything like that. She also spent less than 5 mins total with us, but waited 5 hours. They left my husband hooked up to IV bag and never came back to check on him, so after an hour of his empty bag hanging there, I walked out and asked for them to remove it. The male nurse was like "it could take 5 minutes for the Dr to come or a half hour or hours.." and he was so callous. What we experienced was just laziness and anything resembling me catching them being lazy resulted in irritated treatment of us. Just not a good experience. Go to WakeMed. Oh. And my husband is back in severe pain tonight, and they found "nothing wrong with him." So, were gonna get a lovely bill and we paid a bunch of lazy medical "professionals" to accomplish nothing.

the worst place i have ever visited. lazy worker up front. my friend had alcohol poisoning plus a concussion at the same time. she’s falling asleep and it’s clearly urgent and she told us to ask a medical doctor because she’s not. one came out and the doctor said “we are clearly busy, she’s breathing so she’s fine”. are you serious? these doctors need to be fired and ESPECIALLY the lazy worker at the front desk. I wish I could’ve taken a video of how we were being treated here during this medical emergency!

One of the worst visits we have had here. The only reason it's not a one star review is because the other couple times we were here, we had good experience. The wait time was ridiculously long, more than 2 hours. That too from just before 12 am on a Thursday night. My dad with heart condition was waiting that long to be seen by a nurse! Will look for other facilities!

I went to Rex Hospital December 5th seeking help. I wasn't suicidal nor homicidal nor felt like harming anyone. These are all questions they asked me. I did have my child with me and she was completely safe! I didnt know it was a crime to bring a baby with you to the hospital. These following nurses Tammy, Jamie, and Aurora Called CPS on me and Also Tammy made my sister leave the hospital WHEN SHE WAS THERE TO PICK UP MY BABY! Fast forward to today, I have went 3 months without seeing my babygirl. My babygirl who hasn't spent 1 day without me. My babygirl who I breastfed loved and nurtured every single day. My babygirl is now in Foster care when she HAS A HUGE FAMILY all because these nurses ARE NEGLIGENT IN THEIR DUTIES. That wasn't even their call to do! How can you make a relative leave and then LIE and tell CPS I didnt have anyone to take the baby. This hospital is HORRIBLE. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. My child was taken care of. She was fine and safe before the hospital and even while she remained with me. Now I am suffering without her. I cannot believe this. This was definitely illegal in so so many way.

Our 11 month old daughter cut her index finger and she was losing a lot of blood. They quickly took her inside, did x ray and cleaned it up, put medical glue for recovery and ibuprofen for pain. Only missing star for the long wait time but there were a lot of people in the emergency and the staff we’re trying their level best.
