Sometimes, all you need is a listening ear and a comforting voice to let you know it will all be ok. SERENITY is definitely one of those places who can offer you sound advice when needed and excellent guidance to your medical needs. In my humble opinion, and having worked with her, Sofia is my star! I have been extremely happy with my Nurse, Marta. She always answers all my questions. One time, she worked tirelessly to resolve an issue with a 3rd party. There was a deadline and she followed up to make sure it was timely. My scheduler Estenio is a miracle worker. This is my 4th country (2 countries are known for their efficiency) but I don’t believe either of these countries could have provided me with 5 complicated exams in 3 hours. Thanks to Estenio’s scheduling, it was accomplished. I was supposed to receive my Utente in 3 weeks. After 3 weeks, I went to the saude myself, and it took 10 minutes. Same with the Portugal covid certificate. It’s been months since I gave the information to Serenity. I recently went to the vaccination site and asked for a Portugal Covid certificate. It took about 15 minutes because they had to transcribe my international yellow card, swiss covid certificate, and US CDC booster shots. I think in the bureaucratic arena, it’s faster to do the tasks yourself rather than to go through Serenity. It’s just beyond their control. Perhaps instead of trying to accomplish the task, they can direct the client how how to do it themselves. If you are unfamiliar with the Portuguese Health care system, Serenity is the partner you want to help you out. Price to value ratio is stellar.

I contacted Sofia and she had a doctor appointment in my town, that day. She also helped me with finding specialized care, that would have been difficult on my own. The other day, I was trying to get a Covid vaccine booster, which became a complicated process, in Portugal. Sadly, I had heard such amazing feedback surrounding communication and attentiveness. I don't want to name the individual in particular, but they seem very limited in contacts and connections. Recently it has come to booking a fairly routine. In months, has not been able to secure surgeon. We feel let down and left fend for ourselves. Update: CEO called. Usual pleasantries and then he be become aggressive He lost his temper* (Serenity?) and I had to remind him several times I am not well and that had to turn down volume and tone for conversation to finish on a productive note (*I have kept audio for the fututŕe)

If you are accustomed to high quality (and/or) concierge medical services in the U.S. you will likely be disappointed with Serenity and the Portuguese version of same. This start-up aims to capture the robust market of ex-pats moving abroad to ease the transition between healthcare systems: an enticing and lucrative value proposition for their own investors. Unfortunately our direct experience as customers has amounted to little more than a few referrals and appointments scheduled after considerable delays in response times, and excessive “back and forth” where case managers try to provide email “healthcare” rather than actually referring as requested; hardly a “concierge” experience. More often than not with the help of Google we managed to find higher quality care specific to our actual needs before Serenity had even addressed an email request. I reached out to the CEO and was essentially accused of being too demanding and combative for the purpose of having a feedback dialog about any part of our experiences. He also made a veiled threat I was somehow asking his company to facilitate something illegal on my behalf. I guess what disturbed me most about that exchange was the CEOs repeated references to the fact he had himself read “all of your communications and exchanges with our team” leaving me to feel that much more violated and aware that privacy does not exist on any platform when revenue and reputation are at play. I can assure any reader that it will absolutely require a bit of legwork to identify the highest quality medical care providers in a new country, but paying a service like this one to funnel your requests through a list of their own referrals (likely paid) on their own timetable (likely days) will hardly meet any standard of concierge care. The same couple who preceded us to Lisbon and recommended us to Serenity now rely on us to provide them with appropriate medical referrals. Buyer Beware.
