After an extensive visit to Rome a couple of years ago and several to Merida recently, this difficult to find, non-advertised diamond of a "boutique" museum is a surprise find. In a typical Portuguese modest and low-key way, in a small village northe of Sintra, the (obligatory) guide (perfect English), demonstrated how Roman grave and other marked stones were recycled over the centuries to other purposes. From monument to cattle trough, from grave stone to baptism tub. A wonderful supplement to whatever I have seen before. Go and enjoy.

Amazing little museum, displaying well kept Roman vestiges (mostly tombstones). The visit is informative and educational. Highly recommend it! Visits happen on the hour.

Hidden gem. Fantastic archaeological collection and mosaics. We had a free personal guided tour followed by a stop in the cafe. One of the best attractions in the Sintra region for those interested in history.

The visit to this museum will surprise you, the visit is free and you get a guide to go through it with you and explain everything around the findings in this area. We were amazed with the volume of knowledge you obtain from this visit and the size of the museum was a big surprise as it just kept opening into new rooms all the time! A must!

A very interesting collection of tombs and carved stones created by people living between the Atlantic to Mediterranean from Etruscan times up to 19th century The exhibits are beautifully displayed and the guides are expert and extremely helpful. Highly recommended.

The visits are in Portuguese only, but they have audio guides in English. The place isn't too big, but it's pretty nice and the context given by the guided tour is pretty good.
