Pilgrimage famous for its history and temples and is home to one of the 12 jyotrilingas, the Ramanathswamy temple Lord rama had built a bridge from here across the sea to Lanka to rescue his wife sitafrom her abductor Ravana Ramanathswamy (shiva) in the form of lingam. There are two lingam inside the sanctum-- one built by rama from sand , residing as a main deity , Ramalingam and the other brought by hanuman from Kailash called Vishwalingam. The temple is one of the holiest Hindu Chardham (four devine sites) sites comprising Badrinath, Puri, dwarka and Rameshwaram Do not wear shorts as they will not allow you to enter the temple. The beautiful thing I liked in this place is that you have to reach the main Shiv lingam by taking 22 kund bath which is very beautiful experience as all Sins get wash out and you become pavitra in front of God...

Om Namah Shivay ! One of the 12 Jyotrilinga, divine place. Key Points to note. 1. Pls go through East side gate. 2. Beach is very close to east gate, you can either go directly to temple or first you need to take bath or get your hand, legs wet and sprinkle some water on yourself, it's called as Agni tirtham. Now to move ahead ... 2. You have 2 choices either go straight to Darshan or go through 22 Wells (tirtha) get water sprinked on you or complete bath, if chose to take bath after completing bath there is chnaging room. There are boards in temple you should not take darshan on wet cloths. If you decide to visit this wells there is Rs.25 per person entry fee. Here is warning if you decide to get water sprinked; since water for sprinkling is pulled through bukcet most likely you will get wet by end of the 22 Wells, so pls dress appropriately especially for ladies in family. After paying Rs.25 there will be people asking you anywhere between Rs.50 per person or negotiate basis group for pulling water from Wells and pouring/sprinkling on you. Fix the rate and you are set to quickly move from one well to another. Though area has anti slipery tiles, but be cautious and move safely. It's believed that all your sins are washed away and health regained after the bathing from all these wells After this pathway leads to main temple entrance, where you can enter for the darshan. Rs.50, 100, 200 Quick darshan tickets available just outside entrance of main temple. There will be people unofficially telling you to pay money for quick darshan avoid them. Also they have Abhishek Pooja which you can chose as per your wish & budget apx 500,1000,1500 etc. When you finally reach main temple and see shivling it's worth all the efforts you have taken you will feel the bliss & peace 🙏

A must visit temple of India. Before visiting this temple one must take bath in 22 wells .The wells are located on the other side of main entrance . The surrounding of temple is very polluted especially near the sea side. The corporation should take action on keeping the temple surroundings clean.

Ramanathaswamy Temple (Rāmanātasvāmi Kōyil) is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva located on Rameswaram island in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is also one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. The twelve jyothirlinga are Somnath in Gujarat, Mallikarjuna at Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh, Mahakaleswar at Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh, Kedarnath in Himalayas, Bhimashankar in Maharashtra, Viswanath at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Triambakeshwar in Maharashtra, Vaidyanath at Deoghar in Jharkhand, Nageswar at Dwarka in Gujarat, Rameshwar at Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu and Grishneshwar at Aurangabad, Maharashtra. The temple is one of the holiest Hindu Char Dham (four divine sites) sites comprising Badrinath, Puri, Dwarka and Rameshwaram. Though the origins are not clearly known, the Advaita school of Hinduism established by Sankaracharya, who created Hindu monastic institutions across India, attributes the origin of Char Dham to the seer. The four monasteries lie across the four corners of India and their attendant temples are Badrinath Temple at Badrinath in the North, Jagannath Temple at Puri in the East, Dwarakadheesh Temple at Dwarka in the West and Ramanathaswamy Temple at Rameswaram in the South. The temples are revered by the various spiritual traditions of Hinduism, such as Saivism and Vaishnavism. The Char Dham pilgrimage is an all Hindu affair. There are four abodes in the Himalayas called Chota Char Dham (Chota meaning small): Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri - all of these lie at the foothills of Himalayas. The name Chota was added during the mid of 20th century to differentiate the original Char Dhams. The journey across the four cardinal points in India is considered sacred by Hindus who aspire to visit these temples once in their lifetime. Traditionally the trip starts at the eastern end from Puri, proceeding in clockwise direction in a manner typically followed for circumambulation in Hindu temples. The temple is the southernmost of all the twelve Jyothirlingas. It is one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, where the three of the most revered Nayanars (Saivite saints), Appar, Sundarar and Tirugnana Sambandar, have glorified the temple with their songs. The temple was expanded during the 12th century by Pandya Dynasty, and its principal shrines sanctum were renovated by Jeyaveera Cinkaiariyan and his successor Gunaveera Cinkaiariyan of the Jaffna kingdom. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India. The temple is located in Rameswaram considered a holy pilgrimage site for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and Smarthas. The presiding deity, the Lingam of Ramanathaswamy (Shiva), was established and worshiped by Rama before crossing his bridge to Lanka. According to Hindu ancient texts, Lord Ram had built a bridge from here across the sea to Lanka to rescue his wife Sita from her abductor Ravana. The Temple, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, is at the centre of the town and is closely associated with Rama and Shiva. The temple and the town are considered a holy pilgrimage site for Shaivas and Vaishnavas.

One of the 12 jyothirlingas in India. Sree ramasamy temple the name mention like siva temple places by Lord rama. It's near the bengal sea shore. Photography not allowed in the temple so we can't capture many creativities like the biggest nandhikeshan. Hindu devotees should visit this temple ones in their life time otherwise it will be biggest lost in their life.

Ancient temple at the edge of India 🇮🇳 located in an island 🌴 town. Awesomely serene & one of the 4 dhama from Hindu religious believers, tourists from across the world 🌍 visit this holy temple. Beware of thugs in the dress of priest’s they ask you for urgent darshan by extortion, management should also look into this, it would tarnish the image of his holiness & the place itself

You should plan to visit Rameswaram temple in Winters and Monsoon. Avoid visiting the temple in Summers as its too hot there. So, the best time to visit Rameswaram temple is from July to March. Also, avoid festive days as it is too crowded. There are four gates to enter the Rameswaram Temple in East, West, North, and South. The East gate is main and you can get a ticket worth 50 Rs to enter. You can also keep your footwear there. Then, you have to visit 22 wells and pour a bucket of water from each well with no extra charge or not much long queues. Though, there is a long queue to enter the good hall. Also, make sure you do not carry your mobile phones to the temple as they aren’t allowed in the temple. If you carry you need to pay to keep it in the nearby temples. Do not forget to carry a pair of extra clothes. First of all, you need to take a dip in the sea at the Rameswaram beach. Then, proceed to 22 wells where at each well you will be poured a bucket of water by the staff. Change your clothes in the changing rooms. After, all this you can go to the main darshan. There are signboards leading you to darshan, you can also acquire the help of volunteers around. The temple itself provides the Prasad after the main darshan. You can also get prasad outside the temple.

One of the ancient temples of Southern India. This is an architectural wonder. A single corridor has been build with 1212 pillars and if one gazes from one end of the corridor, the other end culminates to a single dot. It is so lengthy. A fantastic experience to be here. A must visit for tourists and history travellers

My rating doesn't matter... It's the dream temple for every Hindu. The architecture of this temple corridor and the deep carvings inside the temple are mesmerising. Photography is prohibited but the images that anyone captures through their eyes are truly worth the visit. It's an auspiciously ancient temple and every Indian must be proud of having this heritage. Mostly remains crowded all day as it's very popular. Plan with ample time in hand so that you can see and enjoy this structural Marvel. There are few locker rooms outside. No mobiles are allowed inside. Some fools do take it by hiding in clothes but I won't suggest it. Please follow the rules and keep this place clean. The 1212 pillars of this temple and the way they meet at the center of a zero end point (an illusive infinity point) is mind-blowing...no other place in the world can offer that..hats off to our ancient builders and architects who created these wonders without any modern day equipments.

Ramanathaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located on Rameswaram island, Tamil Nadu. It is also one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples in India. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India. Per Mythology, the presiding deity, the Lingam of Ramanathaswamy (Shiva), was established and worshiped by Lord Rama, before He crossed the bridge to the present-day island of Sri Lanka. The temple in its current form is believed to have been built during the 17th century. There are sixty-four Tirthas (holy water bodies) in and around the island of Rameswaram. Bathing in these Tirthas is a major aspect of the pilgrimage to Rameswaram. Twenty-two of the Tīrthas are within the Ramanathaswamy Temple. These 22 theerthams represent the 22 arrows in Lord Rama's quiver. It is believed that pilgrims follow the below sequence when visiting Ramanathaswamy Temple in Rameswaram: 1. Take bath in the sea, which is about 500 meters away from the temple 2. Enter the temple from North gate for 22 theertham bathing; once done exit from South Gate (Ticket price - Rs. 25) 3. Enter the temple from East gate for deity darshan (Ticket prices: Free - Regular darshan, Rs. 100 - Special darshan and Rs. 200 - Quick darshan) Note - Mobile phones are not permitted inside the temple premises; Use locker facility to keep phones and belongings. Ramanathaswamy Temple is located about 2.5 kms away from Rameshwaram Bus Stand. One can use bus, cab or autorickshaw facilities to commute.

After the Dharshan we bath in all the 22 Holy wells inside the temple which purifies us and we feel like the lord had forgiven all our sins and show us the right way to show the courtesy and kindness to others. There are 23 teerthams (wells) in the temple complex, where Bath is essential for devotees, makes it more crowded people with wet clothes jostling.

Beautiful stone carved temple of lord Shiva; one of the holiest Char Dham & one among twelve Jyotirlinga is said to be built by the Lord Rama after defeating Ravana of Lanka. Yellow Gopurams looked majestic, beautifully carved large stone pillars were in lines at the hall & the long corridor. We were wondering how they transported huge stone through the sea in those ancient time. It was really annoying to see a lot of Pandas following us for guided tour & Puja. We purchased special tickets for Darshan & kept our belongings in a government locker nearby. Bathing in water from wells so called Tirtham Snan was considered sacred but still Pandas harassed us for not hiring them. Ambience inside temple was so heavenly & peaceful. We felt sad to see lot of dirt & scattered garbage at periphery. As a Hindu one must visit the place at least once in lifetime.

An exquisite temple in southern India dedicated to Lord Shiva is one for the 12 Jyotirlingas. This place has a lot of importance in Hindu mythology and Lord Rama & Sita themselves are believed to have built the two lingams currently housed in the temple. It's a great pilgrim place ( i.e. one of Four Dhams ) for people wishing to achieving salvation in life. The whole Ramayan has been conceived in this place and it has a great mythological importance. The temple is built on strong stone pillars and it has the longest corridor in the world. Another famous feature of Ramanathaswamy Temple is the 22 wells spread throughout the premises. It is said that water from each well tastes totally different and have curative features, so pilgrims take bath in 22 wells before taking Darshan of Lord Shiva. ( For well bath, you need to buy a ticket for Rs.25 /- only per person. ) . The place is phenomenal with pleasant climatic conditions and scenic beauty.

The temple is known as Rameshwar because, it was established by Lord Sri Rama for Lord Shiva. Sri Rameshwar Temple is one of the oldest temples of Bhubaneswar, this temple is also known as Mausi Maa Temple of Lord Lingaraj. It is located at a distance of two km from the Lingaraja temple. In the temple complex, the very rare snake flower very dear to Lord Shiva can be seen near Mausiman Kund. This snake flower tree is known as Nag Saffron. Maha Shivaratri, Makar Sankranti, Kartik Purnima and Diwali are the major festivals celebrated in the temple. Similar to Sri Jagannath Ath Yatra, Prabhu Lingaraja traditionally rides on a large chariot to the Rameshwar temple, also known as the Rukna Rath Yatra. Calm, scenic sublime..Spirituality all around The place, Rameswaram is considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus, and part of the Char Dham pilgrimages. Hence, it is a very busy and active centre of pilgrimages. The main constituent by the virtue of which is known as The Ramanathaswamy Temple, which with reference to legends is told that the presiding deity here is usually referred to as a Linga with the name Sri Ramanatha Swamy, it is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas... If its possible, then you should take a bath in the sea..this beach of Rameswaram is famous for its beautiful sea featured with no waves at all and looks like a very big river. After taking a bath, you should proceed to the temple(althougha bath is not inevitable) This Ramanathaswamy temple situated near the sea on the eastern side of the island is renowned for its wonderful, ancient and unique architecture. The longest corridor in the world is here. The temple has a Gopuram about 40-50 meters tall. You can take the bath in the 22 kundas or wells, which would make a sense to you that the water here is of varied tastes and color. There is a popular belief that one needs to take bath in 22 theertha kundams with in the temple premises before having darshan. It is believed that the water from these kundas have some medicinal properties. After the bath, you can visit the Ramalinga and the Hanumanlinga as well as you can perform some prayers and rituals, if you would like. However, Remember one thing there can be many guides who can repeatedly approach you as soon as you enter the temple premises. One needs to negotiate the deal of how much to pay them if we need their services. Or, if you need a guide ,you can follow your hotelier, as they would most likely present you a guide in the first place.

One of the four Dhams of Hinduism. Every Hindu must come here at least once in his life. Here first of all one should do "Mani Darshan" (without taking bath) between 5 am to 6 am. Its ticket price is ₹ 50 and for early darshan is ₹ 200. After this, one should bathe in the beach called "Agni Tirtha" located at a distance of about 200 meters from the 'eastern' gate of the temple. Then with your wet body come to the 'northern' gate of the temple. There is a ticket of ₹ 25 for bathing in 22 tirtha. Then take bath in 22 wells (also known as 22 tirtha). Volunteers are available there to help you. It's important to take bath in both "Agni Tirtha" and "22 Tirtha". After this you have to go to your hotel and change your dress or you can change in temple campus (because darshan is not allowed with wet clothes). Then come to the temple and have darshan of the divine Jyotirlinga of Lord Ramnath. There is no ticket for this darshan. 🚩 Jay Shree Ram 🚩 🔱 Om Namah Shivay 🔱

Devotees come from far and wide here. We also get food and hotel facilities around here. And if we want to see Ram Setu, then we have to go to Dhanushkodi.

However major sections of the temple were closed due to covid (for instance the 22 Kunds were closed) The only thing that set me off Was people were neither wearing mask & nor maintaining social distancing & Neither the temple authorities were concerned about it..

Enjoyed the visit to Rameshwaram temple. 22 teertam water at one place was really amazing. Each one tasting different from the other. Amazing temple construction. Though could not go to all portions. Pillars in unison with different statues was really a sight to watch. One full day is suggested for the temple.

We visited Rameshwaram by car from Delhi In November 2020. The drive on Pamban bridge was one the best experience in my life. This was my second visit to Rameshwaram, the first one was 22 years ago. We stayed at Goswami Mutt in Rameshwaram. It is one of the best and cheapest places to stay in Rameshwaram. The temple is usually empty nowadays due to Corona and you can have a darshan in just 10 minutes. The temple is situated just next to seashore. There are lots of hotels and Dharmshala near temple where you can get accommodation from 500 rupees to 2500 rupees depending on your budget. The food is quite cheap and the tea served in most of places is prepared in a classic south Indian way and people from north India will definitely cherish the taste of the tea. The weather is moderate through out the year. Do try out the Vada Sambhar served in various food stalls behind the temple. It is said that brining Ganga water and pouring it on the Shivlinga washes out the sins and pleases Lord Shiva immensely. This is one the four dhams which one must visit in his or her life time. The beach is just one minute walk from the temple. The temple is managed very well. Do visit it once in a life time.

Rameshwaram Temple is situated in the island of Rameswaram, off the Sethu coast of Tamil Nadu and is reached via the Pamban Bridge across the sea. The huge temple is known for its long ornate corridors, towers and 36 theerthams. Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga represents the southernmost of the 12 Jyotirlingams of India and has been a time honored pilgrimage center held on par with Banaras. Rameshwaram Temple Jyotirlinga is associated closely with the Ramayana and Rama′s victorious return from Sri Lanka. According to a popular legend, it was Lord Rama who installed this Linga here. Story goes that when Lord Ram was on his way to attack Ravana, he reached this place where he made a linga of sand and worshipped it. It is said that when Lord Rama was drinking water on the seashore there was a celestial proclamation - "You are drinking water without worshipping me". Listening to this Lord Rama made a linga of sand and worshipped it and asked to be blessed so that he could vanquish Ravana. Lord Shiva blessed him accordingly. He also requested Lord Shiva to reside eternally here so that entire mankind should benefit from it. Shiva then manifested himself as the Linga and got installed there for eternity. Rameswaram Temple is spread over an area of 15 acres and has lofty gopurams, massive walls and a colossal Nandi. Rameswaram Jyotirlinga also boasts of a 4000 feet long pillared corridor with over 4000 pillars, supposedly the longest in the world. The carved granite pillars are mounted on a raised platform. Worth noticing fact about this corridor is that the rock is not indigenous to the island and is said to have been brought in from elsewhere in Tamil Nadu across the sea. The eastern Rajagopuram towers to a height of 126 feet and has nine levels. The Western Rajagopuram is also quite impressive though not as tall as the Eastern one. The temple also has several mandapams with mini shrines to other deities. There is a huge Nandi measuring 12 feet in length and 9 feet in height with the idols of Viswanatha Naicker and Krishnama Naicker. The lingams are housed in the inner section of the Ramalingeshwara. High walls enclose the temple, forming a rectangle with huge pyramidal gopura entrances on each side.

Rameshwaram is one of the chaar dhaam temples. Situated in Tamil Nadu this place is one of the most visited places of both the state and country. Devotees from all around the country visit this place . This places is connected through bus and trains. Cheap hotels and restaurants are also available here. Since the weather is quite humid the best time to visit this place is from Oct to Feb end . The hotels are very near to the temple. Buses to madhurai are also available if one wants to visit the meenakshi temple there. The overall structure of the temple is marvelous. Ancient architecture and design will leave you amazed. Also you can visit the house turned museum of our beloved ex President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam . Sight seeing can be done just after the you return from the temple

Rameshwaram has the Longest Corridors in India and is visited by Millions of Hindu pilgrims throughout the year, they believe that the sins of a person washed away , when he/she took a bath in the so many Theerthas (holy water bodies inside the Temple) and worship the deity named Ramanathaswamy. Rameswaram – The name of this island is a Sanskrit word , if we split it as Ram + Eswaram, it gives us a literal meaning ...... “The place where Eswara was worshiped by Rama”. The ancient Indian Epic Ramayana of 7292 BC depicts this very event , the worship performed by Lord Shri Ram and his wife Sita. This story is the main reason for Rameswaram to become a Holy place and to attract millions of pilgrims. The temple was built by Pandya kings in the 11th / 12th century & then restored by Sethupathy kings few centuries later...has immense historic value. It is a great experience to visit the temple, once you entered, you will get peace of mind, well maintained. never forget to visit sea shore behind Agnitirtham, taste local banana bhaji and green coconut, No camera or mobile phones allowed inside the temple. Better to keep thise inside vehicle/room.

There is nothing better in this world than Bhole bhaba ka dham 🙏🏻 Snan in Agni Teerth, prefer to Change clothes and then enter in temple in queue. Go for 24 Theerth snan on the way to Darshan inside Devalaya itself. Queue ares usually very long and it may take upto an hour to 3-4 hours for Darshanam.

Relatively less crowded in the evenings or early mornings. Huge temple campus with multiple entry gates. Anna Prasadam served in the evening till 8. Mobiles can be carried inside, but usage is prohibited. No dedicated stands for footwear or luggage from the temple authorities. But private facilities available near each entry.

The temple of condition in Tamilnadu is getting worse after visiting Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga I realised that. The govt the people need to act for preserving this jyotirlinga else in very less time it is not going to be there. There is no maintenance at all.

This place is amazing.this is one of 12th jyotirlinga. You can make a stay for 2 days in rameshwaram. The temple is very beautiful from inside. There 21 kunds you can take bath by paying 25 rs. Per person. Blessed to witness this place.i would totally recommend to visit this place at least 1 time in a lifetime . I went on weekdays so i didn't have to stand in queue for a long time. As instructed phones are not allowed but there wasn't any checking when i went there.but avoid going with the phone inside as one will enjoy the moment.
