This is the only land way that connects Rameswaram island to the mainland and has been this way for over 50yrs now. Amazing how an entire island as large as Rameswaram is connected by just a single bridge. You will get the bridge just before you reach Rameswaram. There is a new railway bridge that is under construction. If you want to see a train on the bridge then you will need to go around 2.45 to 2.50 pm. Very beautiful place having full of natural beauty If you plan to go on the train itself, then follow this option - works best. Take the train from Rameswaram railway station at 2.30 and get tickets for Mandapan station which is just after the bridge. Ticket cost is Rs. 30 for adult or child as it is minimum fare. The train comes early, so go soon and look for the NR coach and find a seat. It was a great place. Train takes a good 20 mins to cross the bridge. A which is nice. When you get down at the Mandapan station, walk about 5 mins to the main road and take any bus back to a Rameswaram. We took an auto for Rs. 320.
