Very good experience. It is on the way to Dhanushkodi Ram Setu point. It will come on your left side. Unfortunately it was closed in early morning, hence we could not get in but the bridge to reach there had given us a good experience. A few of the photos and a video attached for your reference, i hope you like them.

This ancient temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Kothanda Raman was probably built during the Chola period somewhere around 1000 years ago. It is located at Danushkodi edge and is about 14 km from the Rameshwaram town at the southern tip of Tamil Nadu. This is the place where Rama conducted the Pattabhishekam – crowning of Vibheeshanar, the brother of the slain Demon King Ravana as the king of Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). It is a simple temple and you will be surprised that it was not apparently built as per the Aghama rules. It lacks the central tall structure as you would expect from all the south Indian temple architecture. Inside it has Rama, Seetha, Lakshmana and Veebheeshana figurines. The locals tell you that this temple was probably one of the few buildings left intact in the wake of the 1964 Cyclone. This Cyclone left the entire small town of Danushkodi completely devastated. Anyway I will cover that in another post. For the Hindus, this temple is one of the mandatory sthalams (religious place for pilgrimage) as part of the Rameshwaram Payanam (travel). The temple is on the tar road leading upto the Danushkodi island and thus you will find plenty of parking space near the temple.

ஆங்கிலத்தில் எழுதுவதற்கு மன்னிக்கவும். 12 Jan 2021. On the way to Dhaushkodi point, saw this place from the car. It was so beautiful to see this place surrounded by water and a beautiful small road leading to it. Was wondering what could be in that place, since so many people were also visiting it. The priest who came with us, explained the history of the place, and we were so happy that we were visiting the very place where Vibishana surrendered himself to Lord Ram and Lord Ram, crowned him king of lanka in this very place. Crowd was so much, especially people from north india, decided that i would not enter inside the temple, since the crowd was huge. Went around the temple on the outside. The information board erected tells us the story of the place but the English translation of it is so horrible. One can visit this place, if you are visiting Dhanushkodi.

The temple is not well maintained. Parking will be difficult during rush time as there is limited parking space. Funniest thing is some locals showing a big coral to visitors and saying that this is one of the floating stones which is used by Srirama to make bridge to Srilanka and they are collecting money also 😂

Lovely location. Water on both side of a road that lead straight to Vibhishan temple. Only temple of Vibhishan. If tales were true, he was declared as King of Lanka at this perticular place. Very beautiful location and not too many people around. You can spend hours enjoying this place without any regret 👍

Amazing view , way through is exquisite . Situated on an island that is surrounded by Bay of Bengal and Gulf of Mannar, the temple is located 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) from Rameswaram. When Dhanushkodi was severely affected by the 1964 Rameswaram cyclone, the temple was the only structure that survived.Swami Vivekananda is said to have visited the place after his historic trip to Chicago.

Must visit as it on the way to Dhanuskodi. I felt the temple needs to be renovated as many tourists do visit here looking at its significance. The local even show you the floating stones and you can pay and touch it on your forehead too.

Very historic and beautiful temple located in a small island next to seashore. Place where Pattabhishegam was done by Shri Ram to Vibhishanan. Historically very significant place and at the sametime fantastic place from the nature point of view as well.

This is must visit place in Dhanushkodi. This is the place where Lord Ram did the raajy abhishek (coronation) of Vibishan while the bridge was getting built. This place would be on to the left when driving to the end of Dhanushkodi.

Awesome place, it's where Lord Rama Did Pattabhishekam of Vibhishan. Opposite to the temple, there is a lake with shivling and the view is mesmerizing, The bridge that leads to this temple is also beautiful

I gave only a four star rating because of the terrible way the temple promises are maintained. This is one of the iconic temples in the whole Rameshwaram region. They should have kept this Temple properly, neatly and with value The shield brilliance of the surroundings is spectacular. You can reach here by taking a diversion from the Dhanushkodi Road. The road to the Vibishan Temple is absolutely spectacular with water on other side of the road. It is better if you avoid Sundays to visit this place as it will be heavily crowded.

We visited this temple on 23rd Nov, 2023. We went to the queue around by 4:30 as before 6 AM we can have spatika ling darshan. But to my surprise there were already thousands people in the queue. Though Darshan was very quick. Once you enter inside temple you can take the highest ticket to have quick darshan as Spatik ling darshan will be there in between 5 AM TO 6 AM.

This temple is located on the way to Dhanushkodi. It temple is bit off road from the road which is leading towards Dhanushkodi. The autorickshaw you hire to visit dhanushkodi will take you here as this place is also included in their local site seeing (dhanushkodi, Ramsetu view point and many local temples at Rameswaram) package for which they charge ₹1000/- for up down journey. The legend is that Prabhu Shree Ram coronated King Vibhishan (Brother to Lankesh Ravan) as King of Lanka at this place. The temple devoted to Prabhu shree Ram, Seeta mata, Laxman and Hanuman ji as been constructed here in the remembrance to the incident. Laxmana performed the coronation process. There are wall paintings at the temple which depict the whole story. How Ravan expelled his brother Vibhishan by kicking him in the royal courtyard, when vibhishan asked Ravan to let Seeta mata go and avoid the war. Then vibhishan come to Lord Ram as he was already a devotee to lord Ram. Prabhu shree Ram coronated him as king of Lanka after death of ravan. You can the floating stone here at the sea shore near to the temple. You can touch these floating stone to your forehead only after paying some money to the locals who are there as the incharge. Parking is at the road side. It might be congested during peak time. Here you can enjoy coconut water from the local shops.

Kothandaramar temple near Rameshwaram is a nice temple and one can relax here by watching nearby sea and big trees. This is only temple in India dedicated to king Vibhishan. This is a place where Lord Sree Rama, Lord Hanuman and king met for the first time and also a place Sree Rama coronated king Vibhishan for Srilanka kingdom before and after the war with Ravana, a demon. One can see part of stories of Ramayana depicted on walls of this temple. A very narrow road approaching this temple on way to Dhanushkodi. Private Bus has to be careful and slow.

Sri Rama gave my word here to Vibhishana who was Ravana's younger brother I will win over your brother and make you king of Lanka. As a symbol, a temple for Vibhishana was established here

A must watch temple on way to Dhanushkodi. This temple consists of Lord Sheeram, Sita, hanuman, laxman and Vibishnan. After the killing of King Ravana, Lord Ram was given the crown to Ravanas brother Vibishnan and made him king of Sri Lanka. The bridge to this temple from the main road is the highlight because sometimes it may dry or wet.
