Rameswaram is a town on Pamban Island, in the southeast Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It’s known for Ramanathaswamy Temple, a Hindu pilgrimage site with ornate corridors, huge sculpted pillars and sacred water tanks. Devotees bathe in the waters of Agni Theertham, off the beach east of the temple. Gandamadana Parvatham is a hill with island views. A chakra (wheel) here is said to bear an imprint of Lord Rama’s feet.

A touching story of Garuda Jatayu and his loyalty to Ram. Secluded location, a water tank and an airy spacious temple in his name. Feels good to hear stories of real loyalty and deep friendship and valour from our Indian mythology & heritage.

Need to take a drive off from the main road to reach this temple. Do not drive on the beach sand if your vehicle is not equipped with a 4X4 transmission. Park at a safe distance and walk to the temple, need not worry about the walking distance from the car parking space, it's a very short walk. Lot of devotees have walked from the main road itself.

After killing Ravana, who was also a Brahmin, Lord Rama decided to atone for his sin by offering prayers to Lord Shiva by creating a lingam. Before worshipping lingam of Lord Shiva, Lord Rama washed his hair in this pond.

This place is a temple built in thr memory of Jatayu who lay down his life fighting ravan. The place is offbeat to the road connecting rameswaram to dhanushkodi. Not many people visit this place. It has got a kind nearby and while I was here I captured small children from nearby villagers bathing and it was a delight to see them enjoy

Very peaceful place. Lord Shiva temple surrounded by beautiful location. Normally, auto people will not show this place. Ask them particularly to show this place. Road to the spot is not a tar/asphalt road. But, motorable.

This place is beyond what we know. It might not look fascinating to human eye but this temple has unbelievable wisdom and to tap that all you need is to go sit for few minutes and fall asleep in that environment. Even Devas, Asuras, Yakshas many visit this temple during the night. Extremely powerful lingam that can change your perspective of human consciousness.

A small diversion between rameswaram and Dhanushkodi. Approach road is of mud and sharp stones. Lord Rama is said to have washed his sin for killing Ravana who is a Brahmin. Local autos refuse to ply their vehicles on this section for fear of flat tyre.

Jada Theertham is around 4.0 km from Ramanathaswamy Temple. Lord Rama and Laxmana washed their hair after their victory over Ravana and prayed to Lord Shiva. The temple is not much visited by tourists. We had a nice and peaceful darshan here. 🙏

Unknown temple since road is not good but do visit situated in a nice place ....very religious Hindu temple since it was place were Raman cleansed himself after killing ravanan as by mythology.

  • 5/5 Sariga B. 1 year ago on Google
As per the legends, the temple is significant because Lord Ram, after killing the demon king Ravana, came to this temple to worship lord Shiva. At that time he used the water from the temple pond to clean his hair (JADA) and body to rinse of the Ravana's blood. Hence the temple is called JADA THEERTHA SHIVA TEMPLE

Jada Tirtham is situated around 3.5 km from the main island, on the Dhanushkodi road. After killing Ravana, Lord Rama visited this place and installed Sri Rama lingam in the temple. Before installing the lingam, Lord Rama washed his Jada (hair) with water in this temple to purify himself from the sins. Jada Theertham temple is a small temple, located within the Kaveri Tirtham. The Kaveri Theertham is the only place in India where Lord Kapardishvara is worshipped. It is also believed that Jatayu, the king of birds, who fought with Ravana, fell down in this theertham after he was killed by the latter.

Rameshwaram has 64 tanks or theerthams, of which 22 are inside the Ramanathaswamy Temple and the rest outside in different forms. On the way to Dhanushkodi, about 3.5 km from the Ramanathaswamy Temple is the Jada theertham. This is the place where Lord Rama and Lakshmana washed their hair (Jada) after killing Ravana.

The place is a bit dangerous. 1km from main road. It is in the jungle. You will see peacock on the way to the temple. Do not walk through jungle, there are locals drinking. It is the place where Lord Ram washed his hair after killing Ravan. Temple Pandit is not supported by anyone. Authorities should take care of the temple.
