It was an absolutely fantastic experience visiting this beautiful lake during my recent solo motorcycle ride to Tamil Nadu. I visited it after Meenakshi Temple to soak in the vibes of Madurai amidst all the hustle bustle. And I experienced all of it! I enjoyed a long walk around the lake, it was almost 5 kms long. The crowd was enjoying the vibes just like me. It's definitely a must visit place for everyone visiting Madurai. 100% recommended.

I had been here during evening and this was a very pleasant place with busy eateries around and small amusements for the kids. There are lot of options for eatables and the view of the kolam at night is very nice. All the edges of the kulam has one or the other highlights be it temple , eateries , amusements for kids. Should visit for people who have not been to teppakulam earlier.

Yes of course I wanted to see the temple but i couldn't. The temple is in the water and we can only reach there by boat, and boats are available on Sundays only. So we saw the closed temple only I hope it must be great. After all this a temple is a temple... Keep in mind if you are visiting Madurai visit this temple only on Sunday. These 3 stars are not for temple but the regret i couldn't get in there.

Teppakulam is the location where the king Thirumalai Naicker excavated the soil to fabricate the bricks required for constructing his palace, Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal. The pit that was thus formed is seen as tank now. It is approximately 305 m long and 290 m wide.

Wonderful place to be in the evening to sunset. Evening breeze makes it even prettier. We visited on weekday and there is no crowd at all. It’s easy to get vehicle from or to Madurai due to its popularity.

One of the scenic place located in Madurai. The place theppakulam, Theppa means a small boat made out of bamboo or similar materials, kulam meaning Pond was built during the regime of the Nayakas. The pond gets its water from the river Vaigai. The water path also was channelized during the Nayakas rule. The theppotsavam, also known as the float festival attracts scores of people from Madurai and surrounding villages and is one the eye catching event in Madurai after the Chitrai festival.

Beautiful and calm place. Evenings are very pleasant and mind soothing at this place. You can walk all around this temple (outside boundary to the lake). Cool breeze, pleasant lighting adds up to the beauty of this place.

Mariamman Teppakulam Mariamman Teppakulam is a beautiful square tank spread over a huge area of almost 16 acres, located about 4 Kms East of Meenakshi Temple in Madurai City.  The tank is the scene of the colourful float festival held in January/February to celebrate the birth anniversary of King Thirumalai Nayak, who built this tank.  The deities of Meenakshi and Sundareswarar are placed in a float, called “Teppam”, decorated with flowers and illuminated with hundred of lights.  This float is taken around the tank to the sound of traditional music.  On the Northern side of the tank a temple is dedicated to Mariamman , a famous village deity of Tamil Nadu.

Went on a Sunday evening. Not sure about other days but there was no transportation to the temple. Good space to have street food by the shore with ample sitting space available. The temple looks grand.

Love the sprucing up done here..the area around the teppakulam is well lighted and clean. It had a beach feel with cool breeze over water and lots of food stalls. Ideal for a lazy outing with family but better to go post sunset.

This’s the best sight view place in the middle of the Madurai city. ➡️ Everyone who sees this place would like to click a pic here. 📸 ➡️ Nice place to sit around the Pond (theppakuzham) and wander your thoughts. ➡️ must visit place when you are at Madurai.

This place is situated in the southeast direction from maatuthavani bus stand. If you are travelling from maatuthavani to Meenakshi Amman temple , then you can have a look at it on the way. Madurai Thiagaraja college is located nearby this lake. A square shaped lake in which there is a garden like structure in the middle of this lake. You can find seating structures to sit on the shores of this lake. I went here on September 2022, there is no proper parking here. Riding on two wheeler is advisable. As there are no trees present near by, a sunny morning may scorch you if you want to spend time here. This place will be awesome on evenings and nights. Don't forget to spend sometime here on the evenings if you go to madurai.

A beauty where nature and man's efforts combine to soothe the hearts and souls of those who spend some time here. We went during the evening time which added to the magic of the place. Boating is available for ₹20, which is hardly 10 minutes, but still an enjoyable experience. The person who manned the boat on the day we went was very grumpy, but other staff were friendly and helpful. A wonderful place to sit and spend some time.

  • 4/5 Mukundakrishnan s. 3 years ago on Google
Beautiful. It's a old temple built by Thirumala Naikkan, located middle of a manmade pond. The temple and surroundings looks very beautiful. The main attraction is the side walk ways, and the space to sit. People usually comes here in the evening and sits for long time. Best for family, friends, couples etc. One side it has street foods, many street vendors etc. There is a temple opposite to this pond, built on ancient Dravidian architecture. Parking space is available near to the police station. In the evening it's best to take a walk around.
