Very ancient temple devoted to lord Shiva (Rathinagireeswarar) and goddess parvathi (vandarkuzhali). Special thing about this temple is, those who got delay in getting married are coming to worship the god. By experience the devotee's strongly believe that marriage is fixed after a few days by worshipping this god. Also this temple is linked with Mahabharata, thirugnenasammanthar, goddess lashmi and lord Brahma... Everyone should visit this place at once on your life time

Thirumarugal Rathanagireeswarar temple is located very near to Nagore & Karaikal in the Kumbakonam Karaikal highway. The temple can be reached directly from Thirunallar through country roads by crossing Arasalar and T.R.Patnam rivers. Moovar padal Petra kovil. The temple has a huge Rajagopuram and has two prakarams with a neat temple tank. Temple faces east. This is the place where Thirugna Sambandar brings back the life of a Chettiyar boy who dies of snake bite while sleeping in a nearby temple platform. And also conducts the marriage of the couple. The Shaniswara deity of this temple is very famous and like Thirunallar, It is on the right of the entrance to the Sanctum of Rathanagireeswarar facing east. Vandarkuzhalammai sannadhi faces south. The Panchaloka idols of the Nataraja, Sivagami and other urchavamurthys are worth admiring. From Marugal one can easily visit Seeyathamangai thevara padal petra sthalam which is located just two kms north towards Thirunallar. Another road branching of from Thirumarugal market will take you to padal petra kovilgal Thiruchengattangudi, Ramanatheswaram and Thirupugalur.

Rathnagireeswarar temple at Tirumarugal. The place got the name from a plantain tree known as ``Marugal'' which is found in the temple. It is believed that the tree has been there since time immemorial on the northern-side of the temple and if its branch is cut and planted elsewhere, it does not grow. The place is also known as ``Kadalivana Kshethram'' in Sanskrit. The lingam has a mazhu from the result of excavation by king Kusaketu Renovation work is going on. Everwhere dust.

I went to this temple a few years ago. A very serene and tranquil place. This was apparently my paternal grandma's family temple of worship and she hailed from a nearby village. I would rather go to a calm temple like this compared to some of the more popular yet, insanely crowded ones. The lighting inside could be improved but, the atmosphere there is something one must experience.

Beautiful temple, nice temple tank, tall gopuram, kumbabhishekam done recently hence all painted, clean and neat. Nice nandi, pleasant and peaceful place to pray and seek Siva and concerts blessings. Since inside the village not visible from the main road, don't miss when traveling that side
