(Translated by Google) A typical Romanian irresponsible mess, instead of admiring a historical monument, the place has become a public closet for the tourists traveling through the area!

(Translated by Google) One of the most important Roman settlements in ancient times, the Arutela Fort stands on the left bank of the Olt, near the Cozia Monastery. The Arutela fort dates from 137 - 138 AD. and is included in the list of historical monuments. The camp is located on the Traian Way or the Olt Road. It was covered by the waters of Olt for thousands of years and was accidentally discovered, about a century ago, when excavations were made for mineral springs. construction were executed by C. Panco. The Praetorian gate was restored (the praetory gate). On the other two sides we see the service gates: the principalis dextra gate and the left mainis portal. The fortification is built of stone slabs and has a square shape with sides of 60 meters provided with semicircular towers at the corners and square towers on both sides of the Pretoria gate. The enclosure wall was erected from large blocks of rectangular stone and thin slabs and small, unworked stone, fastened with mortar, to ensure horizontality. The legionaries from the Arutela fort had the mission to supervise, maintain and ensure the movement on the Traian Way or the Olt Road. Thus, the Roman strategic road from the Olt valley was discovered, located 20 meters to the east of the Pretorian gate, being paved with large blocks of stone, with a width of six meters. Castrul Arutela was part of a line of defense to stop the attacks from the hilly area from the east. The line of defense consisted of a series of castles around the Cozia Massif. On the plateau of "Teofil's Peak", to the north of the castle was built a semicircular tower, with the right side to the east, 300 meters high from the point "Poiana Bivolari". This tower had the role of supervising the entrance to the gorge, being oriented towards Olt, and of ensuring the traffic tracking towards Castra Traiana. S-a reconstituit poarta pretoriană (porta praetoria).

A beautifully reconstructed castle, located in a dream area (on the banks of the Olt river). But... It would require a little attention from the local authorities, because: someone seemed to have slept there (we found a blanket, traces of fire and food bag probably), as well as some fallen roof tiles, as well as which they were about to fall... Danger for visitors !!!

This partially reconstructed fort (in the 1980s) shows how the roman fort built in 138 AD and used for a century could have looked. It's a nice site to visit but access is difficult by foot even though Caciulata is just across the river. You need to drive across the dam on Olt and then walk downhill to the fort. Authorities could do more to maintain the site and ease access to it.

(Translated by Google) A historic location accessible to the general public. Admission is free which makes the target vulnerable to people with bad intentions. The structure seems to have been recently restored, the road does not look big but in reality it is over 5-6 m, it is in good condition anyway. Let's say that access is a little more difficult if you come from the other side because there is not much pedestrian crossing or where to leave the car. Eventually you leave the car at the gas station and take it on foot. Be careful where you step, it is not the path, it is full of excrement from animals, cows, sheep; I even took my luck to the car ... (Original) O locatie istorica accesibila publicului larg .

A strong overflow of the Olt in the sec. III did like this camp, Objective of defense against migrant peoples, to be abandoned. When visiting the area, put it in your agenda and you will not regret it.

Very beautiful, interesting to visit, unfortunately there are some shortcomings, in the sense that I found in one of the small rooms downstairs, extinguished embers, probably some bitter person sat there and warmed himself by the fire, but there is a risk of setting fire to the doors wooden. In the other closet there was garbage, a sign that homeless people had nested there as well. Another problem is that the road to Castru or to the Turnu Monastery/Lotrisor waterfall must be traveled by tourists on the side of the road, where there is not even a small sidewalk or a simple railing, i.e. without being protected by traffic cars Not everyone goes around in a car, those are tourist routes, they are done on foot
